    Look at their third order winning percentage. What that shows is really how "good" the teams are. It shows the Mets are actually a bit better than their record, but more importantly it shows the Phillies are a decent bit worse than their record.

You say that they could have just decided this two or three days ago because pretty much everyone knew Ike was going to drill Houston and in all likelihood the city wasn't going to be in any condition to host a couple of baseball games today and Monday, and that you don't know what the heck you are talking about? Shocking. Please explain how anyone whatsoever has been prejudiced by this decision or its timing. I'll wait for your response. Anyone who went to Houston thinking the Cubs and Astros would get the games in, for starters. I'm thinking, based on the price of the tickets and the late decision, the astros were stalling because they want the least amount of fans possible at the games in Milwaukee.

    the good thing is that hes a type b Doesn't matter. It would only matter if we offered him arbitration, and he went somewhere else anyways. If we don't offer arb, then the rating doesn't matter. No way we'd offer him arbitration. what I meant by that was that if he were a Type A there would be a big disincentive for another team to sign him (since they'd be giving up a pick). But him being a B will mean that we will only get a sandwich, meaning that another team might sign him over some decent Type A reliever (Russ Springer, Juan Cruz, Doug Brocail, Damaso Marte, Darren Oliver) because they won't be losing a draft pick.

    braves angels yanks giants rangers I don't think that the Yankees or Rangers have any starting pitching they could afford to trade away. Both would seem to more be in market for pitching help in the offseason than a one dimensional power hitter. I don't see how the Rangers can be included in that group. They are desparate for pitching. FYI, they have one of the best farm systems.

    Pffft, if we are going to go for it, go for it (with Cuban's $ of course). Exploit the Padre's "marital" issues and trade a huge package (Theriot, Pie, Hill, Vitters?) to SD for Peavy and Greene (duck!). Sign CC. Sign Chipper Jones for RF (if ATL doesn't pick up his option, he decides to leave for a Championship and will move to the OF...a lot of "ifs"). If not, Giles would be a great value (but his "ifs" are just as bad if not more). Plan C would be settling for Burrell/Dunn. Obviously, move Fukudome to CF. Resign Wood. Pawn Marquis off on someone for a B prospect.

    True, but he's ineffective. In my original post, I left out one important phrase. I meant to say "I'd say he's pretty good at it, but I wouldn't go as far as to say he's one of the best in baseball...." KRod is fairly effective, and he seems to avoid periods like Marmol had just before the break and like Wood has had recently. That's how I see him. Certainly not a 10mil + closer though. Yeah, I agree with you, hes good, but just not great anymore.

    Does he know that he's Felipe Lopez and was recently let go by the Washington Nationals? http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/26666835/ To Lopez's credit, he did go 1-4 with a K...in the world of Felipe Lopez thats a pretty damn stellar game.

    It's pretty crafty, but I'd stop short of calling it genius. They see an opportunity and they're trying to make the most of it. I'm trying to think of ways it could backfire. How about if the Crew & Phils continue losing and the Stros wind up sewing up the WC before the end game? Then they would be denying themselves the rest at a time when they would value it more than easy wins. If the Astros have already clinched the Wild Card, and the Cubs have clinched the division... there will be no need to make the game(s) up. Right, the only way it can hurt them is from a revenue perspective of not having those games.

If it mattered or the voters cared, why did Ryan Howard win MVP? I meant in real life, not in post season awards. The first post doesn't say anything about post season awards. Look, outs are outs. I know this is an entire debate unto itself, but are we really getting to get picky about moving runners up or not grounding into double plays? Players can strike out and still be productive. I just don't see how the greater number of strikeouts being literally the only difference in the above stat lines matters at all when considering who has contributed more offensively. For the Record: Soto: 11 GIDP McCann: 17 GIDP I think that stat is much less trivial than their strikeouts, but maybe that's just me I'm not speaking from a retrospective perspective, but rather a prospective perspective. In that case, strike outs do matter...a lot.

    Honestly, how is that any different than if the Cubs and Astros played in the last series of the season and they already clinched everything? Because there would still be 2 days before the playoffs to rest your starters making it more likely that you'd play your starters (for at least a portion of the game) in your last series to keep them fresh. This whole thing is a pretty genius tactical move by the Astros. As things stand, theres a very good chance that (even without playing this series), the Cubs will have the division locked up before the final game of the regular season. Theres also a chance that they wild card race between the Astros and the Brewers will come down to the end. Therefore, foricing these games to be moved from this weekend to the end of the season will move what are very meaningful games to both teams to a situation where the Astros will be playing an opponent that as very little interest in actually winning the game. Therefore, their chances of making the playoffs improve significantly. That has to be about a 1000000x bigger advantage than any disadvantage they would have by taking the hour flight to St. Louis to play the games this weekend. If I were the Brewers or the Phillies I'd be screaming bloody murder to the Commissioner.

    maybe 70, honestly. a 120 pound closer with a violent delivery and numbers trending the wrong way? where do i sign? I would agree with the 7 not 70...The guys numbers might be getting worse, but getting 55 saves means your doing something right. Saves are the new RBI He's one of the best closers in baseball....Am I saying he should make 15 a year...no way!!!! No relief pitcher should be making that money, but he's still one of the best in baseball at what he does I would say he's pretty good at it. What I like about him isn't his ability to dominate, because he's merely slightly above average in that regard. What I do like about him is that he is very, very consistant at being as effective as he is. Very true Juan Pierre is a very, very consistant leadoff hitter.
