  1. Hendry says Baker's job safe for rest of season[/b] When asked about an extension... Verbatim what MacPhail said regarding Sosa. Could this mean they are desparately shopping Baker (or evaluating other options in order to fire him)?
  2. well with zero chance of DePo letting Dusty manage his team, at least this rumor has some plausibility. Lets all root for a horrendous second half slide (or rather contiunation) for the Nats so Frank gets tired of lacing up the cleats and takes an ownership role, leaving the most idiotic GM in baseball (although Sabean, O'brien and others are trying to compete) most likely drooling over Baker. Lets trade Baker for Ryan Church!
  3. Don't forget Rollins...and I would agree, the emergence of Cedeno makes spending 8M a season for 4 years on a guy whos gonna OPS mid 700s a dumb dumb move. I trust that Hendry knows this. After all he did put Ronny on the 40 man seemingly too early and look what happened. Cedeno is a Hendry boy and sans Baker is a virtual lock at starting shortstop in 2007. Nomar just built a house here, wants to return, and has every GM shaking in their boots because of his freek injury...theres no way he doesnt resign.
  4. Maybe if they move to the NL West. I guess 20 games out of the division isnt that far, especially if they give up their second best hitter. Watchout cardinals!
  5. Didn't Dubois go to the mexican league over the winter where they throw nearly exclusively curve balls and do quite well? That'd be yes. He has the potential to be able to hit ML offspead stuff, to say he will never make it back is ridiculous.
  6. a team has the option to place players on waivers, so no our superstars wont have to be put on them if we dont want to. And no, there is no way for anyone to know who goes on waivers unless it is leaked or the player is traded. 98% of players put on waivers we have no clue about. The one point not made is that only guys on your 40 man have to be put on waivers so minor leaguers not on the 40 man can be traded at will without having to worry about waivers. If Griffey were to be claimed by the yanks the reds could say that they will revoke him if they cant work out a deal with the yanks. so in reality the reds most likely will not lose griffey for nothing should the yanks claim him and want him.
  7. Considering that we play 10 games against the astros, unless the astros run the table against everyone else they wont be able to make up 9.5 games without most likely knocking us out in the process. Unless of course we help them out by going 11-0 against the cards.
  8. Except the loogy would be put in against lawton first, which means we pinch hit murton!!!
  9. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlbhist/players/scouting?statsId=5511 Hopefully hes solved his balance problems
  10. Good find. Thanks, UK, I feel better about the trade. on espns splits you can just change the year in the url to make it whenever you want.
  11. But when was the last time he logged time in CF? I want Murton to get his AB's but I don't want Holla starting anymore. So whats your new lineup? Here's some ideas depending on where lawton plays: Lawton Hairston Lee Burnitz Ramirez Walker Neifi Barret Lawton Walker Lee Ramirez Burnitz Barret Neifi Hairston IF Lawton plays CF Lawton Walker Lee Burnitz Ramirez Holly Neifi Barret Lawton replacing Holly improves the offense somewhat significantly... Lawton replacing Hairston doesn't improve things very much IMO... 30 or 40 points of OBP as opposed to the 80 points jump if he plays left. So im all for an outfield of Lawton Hairston Burnitz right now. Well hopefully by friday we wont have to write neifis name in the linup more than twice a week....I think the two options are Lawton Walker Lee Rammy Burntiz(flip flopped against tough righties as has been ocurring) Nomar Hairston Barrett Lawton Hairston Lee Rammy Burntiz(flip flopped against tough righties as has been ocurring) Nomar Walker Barrett I think the first is more likely, maybe even with barrett and hairston switched.
  12. ?? What did he say? He was talking about how he felt about making his speech and whatnot, and not being in the mix. He said he was assured that Manny wouldn't be moved - and therefore assured that "nothing of significance" would happen, since neither Boston or the Yankees would be making big moves. He then said he wasn't all that broken up about missing that "Lawton for Garut blockbuster." Sure, it wasn't an earth-shattering move, but it just continued his tradition of marginalizing everything to do with midwestern baseball. Not that I dont like the deal, but in the national scope of things, this really isnt a blockbuster. I would agree its probably the blockbuster of the pre-deadline deals, bu that doesnt say much.
  13. I may be wrong, but didn't the Ramirez/Lofton deal happen in mid-July? I know Simon was aquired after the deadline, though. July 23rd
  14. =D> Very nice. Not the cruz to Oakland call that I had, but still commendable. Good job.
  15. I would hope Lawton isn't given a payraise if he does get an extension. He's already overpaid for what he offers. I'm happy with the move. It gets a guy on base in this lineup. And I don't know why you grouped Texas with Cincy. Texas has a great young IF, a couple good young OFs, and a couple of good minor league pitching prospects....not to mention a winning record this season. A 2 year 12.5-13 mil with an option for a third year wouldn't be that bad IMO. Depends what else is out there. I'd still like to see Hendry go after Dunn, Huff, Manny this offseason. The Cubs are gonna have an interesting decision whether or not to offer arbitration. Raw I think alot will depend on the future of Corey Patterson with the Cubs. For some reason I just don't see Dunn, Huff, or Manny with the Cubs. Of all the Reds' outfielders I see Kearns a Cub if possible, but I'm not holding my breath. I still think Hendry will look for a mid-tier OF help next year (Brian Giles, Luis Gonzalez). If wed give Lawton that, then wed surely pick up Burnitz's option for next year. Which I dont think we will do. That salary is only abou 1M per year less that what hes being paid now in a horrible contract. I'd say depending on how we do from now on and how he enjoys the clubhouse we give him a 2 yr 10M.
  16. actually I believe this was a good deal for Pitt, a good deal for us, but definitely not the fleecing that we are used to. Gerut is cheap, and can be an average starter.
  17. and the worst thing is, is that my ESPN News isnt working.
  18. Wont there be 3 new spots activated (Wood, Garciaparra, and Willamson)? This question may be answered by a trade today but as things currently stand, I would think that Mitre, Wuertz (possibly), and Cedeno would be headed down. Your guess is as good as mine. Id have to say that barring a trade, Cedeno and Mitre are near locks and probably a coin flip between Novoa and Wuertz. I'd have to say Wuertz has a greater chance of being sent down because of his control issues. Except Novoa has worse control issues. Not lately. Wuertz has been terrible. Ehh, theyve been about the same... Wuertz BB (IP)/Novoa BB (IP) July 7 (9.1)/ 9 (12.2) Last 5 IP 4 BB/4BB (in 5.2)

  20. God I hope hes telling the truth...although I wouldnt mind him going to the Mets. :D
  21. average enough to lead the minor leagues in strikeouts Hill is not a strikeout pitcher in Major league Baseball. Except that Hill's 9.72 K/9 (albeit small sample size) says your wrong! Seriously, go to http://www.espn.com. They have all kinds of great stats there. Look at his starts. 5 k's in each of them. Like I conceded he'll be a decent strikeout pitcher. But it is WRONG to think that he's going to strike out nearly as many guys in the majors as he did in the minors at AA. And frankly, I think your tone is condescending and rude. I'm getting tired of some posters here acting like know-it-alls and acting like posters with only 300 or less posts couldn't possibly know anything regarding baseball. I had already edited it out above, but within 5 minutes you made two embarassing claims (Rangers offense is same as Cubs and Hill isn't an ML K pitcher) that could have easily been adverted if you would have looked them up before you posted. Next time you dont want 17 posters telling you you are wrong just look it up before hand. I realized the tone could have been condescending (especially after i saw everyone else jump on you) thats why I deleted it even before you posted. Im not a know it all but the stats are out there an easily available. I dont think theres a single person alive who thought that Hills K rate would not drop making the transition to the majors. But even with a drop, he can still be one of the better strike out pitchers.

  24. The rangers do have the money to pay him but tex is a boras client and is salivating for his big pay day. Although he does have some nasty home/road splits as well. I am not a big Hill fan, but I think with wood out for the rest of the year we need him. I just dont think Rusch can do it for us. Plus, Rusch should be included in any deal with the rangers.
