  1. Interesting stat...now DLEE has 31 of 63 XBH for HRs
  2. Marty Brennaman actually asked a GM about an internet message board rumor? If you think about it, that actually lends credibility to SweetEmotion. I personally doubt that the Reds broadcasters follow a Cubs MB. They could have heard the same rumor that SE heard. Anything's possible. Either way, it doesn't look like a deal's gonna happen but at least something has confirmed SE. Isnt there a poster on here called the optimist? Well I will take his place tonight and point out the fact that maybe we get Dunn for CP, Mitre and Marshall? :D
  3. Surprised to see that no one has mentioned that has heated up as of late and seems to be breaking out of his crummy streak since the tail end of June. April: 297/343/407 2/5 SB May: 226/287/264 7/10 SB June: 262/292/355 9/9 SB July: 319/373/435 10/11 SB On June 24th his line was 245/292/325 To be at 271/318/357 right now means hes been pretty darn good as of late. I like him but believe Hairston +who wed have to give up>Pierre. Is he a FA after this year or does he still have another year of Abri?
  4. He posted on ESPN boards, and his screen name was davemason2k :P No no no, it was dovemason2k :D
  5. Well theres always luck, but if you want to look at probabilities you are going to have a much better chance driving in runs with your 8 hitter than your pitcher.
  6. How do you feel about Felix Rodriguez? He just came back from the DL and we just got a replacement for Holla. Do you think a Holla/F-Rod swap would help the team enough? I have no problem with that. Holla is a bench player in my mind, and Gerut is a better platoon LF. The thing I worry about is paying prospects for middle /setup relief, which can be like playing the lottery in terms of projecting performance. I agree, relievers are crap shoots, but I dont think Holla has a place on our team now and at least F-Rod has shown signs of being a very good reliever. I was excited when the rumor first came out (because that meant no one was in Dubois' way) but now with a superior LH platoon option on the team I wouldnt mind taking the gamble on F-Rod. Has a team ever started the year with a platoon at a position and then ended the year with 2 different platoon players at the same position? And having half of each platoon being rookies taboot! Well lets hope that doesnt happen if whats going down in Transactions is true.
  7. I'm trying to figure out where you're coming from on this one...and I just can't do it. So you're saying we should have our 8 hitter try to put the ball in play rather than take a walk so the pitcher can make the last out. I guess if you think you have a better chance starting the next inning with a pinch hitter than your leadoff man, it's okay. However, I'd prefer my pitcher to end the inning and go with the leadoff hitter the next inning. No, no, no. Go back and read again. I'm FOR having the 8 hitter not be as patient (ala not taking as many walks, hence not conserving outs) because the batter hitting behind him (the pitcher) is virtually guaranteed to make an out. Therefore, should there be men on base, I want my 8 hitter to put the ball in play and try to drive in the man on base rather than walk and let the pitcher get an easy out. Yes, you will end up with the pitcher leading off the inning slightly more, but Id much rather have the pitcher make the first out in an inning than the last out with two men on base. Its not a question of allowing outs as much as its a question of WHEN you allow the outs. By they way, I hate these small sample sizes but Barrett is hitting 326 with men on and two outs this year
  8. Well, Im guessing Holla might get traded for Felix Rodriguez based on the redundency (haha, that just made me think of The Office (British version). But yes, we would definitly need a RH on the bench. I wish I could trust Kelton, but hes hitting a very empty 300 in Iowa. And I dont trust McClain against ML pitching. I'd love to send Murton back down to get more reps, but I think hes needed on the ML team, plus the experience and exposure to a higher level of pitching might be even more beneficial to his development.
  9. he does it on purpose, you dont want your 8 hitter taking a bunch of walks for the pitcher to make the last out in the inning. Thats exactly why I want him there, hes a smart enough hitter to realize that you need to take a different approach based on where you hit...just look at his stats last year hitting second. He took more walks, but it affected his batting average. I think Barrett is a great 8 hitter...especially with the rest of that lineup. I dont want Barrett making the last out, thats dumb. You dont want the pitcher batting leadoff. You want to know what is dumb? Squandering scoring chances with men on base by letting the pitcher hit, rather than a guy with a 280 average.
  10. I'd like to have Murton get as many ABs as possible, but I think his pressence as a platoon and #1 (hopefully) RH PH off the bench would be valuable to the ML team to not send him back to West Tenn.

I don't want him purposely sucking because he's in the 8-hole, regardless of who comes up next. Plus, I would rather have the pitcher making the last out than coming up to leadoff the next inning.. All depends on the situation. If theres no one on base and 2 outs, take the walk. Let the pitcher get the last out, or bring a PH which hopefully would be a power hitter (unless Dusty is your manager and PHs Macias)). If theres some one on base, put the ball in play (280 BA isnt sucking) and see what happens even if its just a man on first (~50 XBH per year). Sabermetric and out is an out is an out only goes so far. In the 8 hole the chance of getting a hit should you put the ball into play is double the the chance of the pitcher not making an out. Therefore you want your 8 hole hitter putting everyball he can (within reason) into play in situations in which a PH will not be used.
  12. I think the proposed question was what would you do with Nomar and Dunn in the lineup.

  14. Wow, since when could Dunn play SS?!?! :D Move over Miggy, you've got some competition!
  15. I am... JHJR Walker Lee Dunn ARAM Burnitz Nomar Barrett At least to start...should Nomar regain form flip him and Burnitz, although I actually think Burnitz's better IsoPatience would serve better the 6 hole ahead of Nomar than the 7 ahead of Barrett. I'd love to see a 1-7 with possible 350+ OBP and 2-8 possible 800+ OPS (3-5 being 950+)
  16. Or save money and re-sign Dempster. And if this trade goes down, poor Rich Hill (and his HR rate). Because his walk rate that hes shown in all but the last 26.2 innings still scares the bejesus out of me. I would like to sign him as a set up man, and am loving what he is doing right now, but I'm leary of his sustainability. Although I think his saves/chances stat is going to command him decent money on the market (for less than a year's worth of experience) which is why I think Ryan will also be the better value. Spending 10M on the entire outfield should leave us financially sound to spend the extra money on Ryan.
  17. Hahah, you found us out...its actually Tree, and we all just played along reacting as we normally would with cautious optimism giving way to grandoise ideas of the offseason and the dynasty Hendry just created by trading for Dunn.
  18. My initial thought was...then why the trade today. But the more I thought about it the more it makes sense. Gerut would replace Burnitz in 2006 in RF, in a platoon like situation with Murton. And this year, as he gets healthier (I heard Len and Bren say he was at 75%) he can spell all 3 OF positions as a super OF sub. We definitely won't be picking up Burnitz's option and given the pathetic FAs this year it'd be nice to not have that postion filled (and extremely cheaply) before the offseason. Hopefully the organization will see that JHJR is the best option to keep center warm for Pie. So then our OF would be locked up. And with Nomar buying a home in Winnetka, he may be back as well. Hopefully Walker keeps it warm for Lewis and there you go, all positions are locked up. Sign BJ Ryan in the offseason and Hendry can get some early Christmas shopping done!

  20. Welcome to the board!!!! We all hope you are right, only time will tell!
  21. Id go for Dan Johnson and Ervin Santana as part of a deal. I like Peralta a lot and for his position he has good production at such a young age, so Id try to keep him. I love Lew and even though he screwed me this year and I hung on to him way too long (I think I dropped him just before the ASG) hes good but in the OF hes nearly a dime a dozen, especially with his SBs going out the window. I'd try to deal Clemens to a contender this year and stock up the farm. How about Clemens and Ford for Santana, Johnson, and Tracy? In the same vein, I really want an Ace because I'm way over the pitching limit and can only start 3 pitchers the rest of the season (I already have Prior and Garland slotted for 2 spots) and wouldnt mind a boost in SB. I am dominating in saves (89 compared to 2nd who has 68) and near/at the top in power with a good amount of space between me and the rest of the pack in most categories. So, I'm proposing Cordero, Webb, Doug Davis, and Pat Burrell for Pedro and Podsednik. The guy im trading is in the middle of the pack in saves right now but only has Kolb, Foulke, and Mesa closing. Hes at the bottom in power and middle/top in SBs. Hes below the limit in games so could probably use some filling out of the back of his pen. The same trade was rejected earlier with LaRoache instead of Burrell. Am I overpaying? Ohh and I picked up Farns (in addition to already having Wickman and Izzy) so I wont go down too bad in saves.
  22. However if a team wants to ensure they get him they can give the sox a throw away prospect and the sox can send him over as well as picking up nearly all hes owed but the league minimum. I don't think its a bad idea at all to try to get him, low risk.
  23. Which means for the most part we are playing bad teams and the Astros and Cards...definitely the best way to move up. Of course we have little to no chance of catching the cards.
  24. The thing is though, without looking at numbers, I feel the cubs have never really beat up on the teams they should have and its been one of their biggest problems in the past.
