  1. Is Barfield still on track to become a force at 2B for the Padres? He was decent when he played for their AA team in Mobile, but I haven't heard much about him since then. edit - the answer is most likely a resounding YES. He put up some very good numbers at AAA last season...in fact much better than his AA numbers. I do remember him scoring the only run off of Angel Guzman in '04 during one of Guz's starts. Barfield hit a solo HR off of Guz in that game.
  2. http://thebaseballcube.com/players/A/brian-adams.shtml I thought he died after the summer of 69. Wow, that was bad... oh yeah... edit - that summer seemed to last forever.
  3. I noted that as bs as well...(from whomever said that at the convention..not you, Deuce). Also, Felix Pie having a tough time in winter ball isn't good news no matter how you spin it. Here's to hoping that Pawelek has another great year...where will he be pitching this season? high A?
  4. Yep..there are probably several disgruntled players that aren't very fond of him for taking their roster spot. BTW, thanks for the info.
  5. .....very good news.... as long as they stay in the Southern League I'm able to see the Jaxx play at least two series a year in Mobile...
  6. ....For having a "should we trade for Clement" thread? No, we clearly shouldn't trade for Clement IMO, but I doubt the discussion merits the disassembling of NSBB.
  7. ^^^^^^ in a setup role ....had control issues in a very brief AA stint last season. I'd say that he should be quite a bit stronger this year though...another year removed from the knife. I'm guessing he begins the year with the Jaxx.
  8. sweet...a 31 year old slightly above average career minor league pitcher. To be fair, he was very, very good in AAA the year before his recent surgery.
  9. It's looking that way, Vance....It appears that I can dream for another drive or so though. Steelers punt :D nevermind
  10. It's looking that way, Vance....It appears that I can dream for another drive or so though. Steelers punt :D
  11. Colts...punt....again.
  12. Have there been any reports indicating what kind of shape Williams is in as of '06?
  13. Very disappointing. Mike Davis teams have typically been pretty good at that end of the floor. They also got murdered on the boards. I fear that will be the case against ALL teams with any depth in the paint. Killingsworth is but one man....one and a half tops.
  14. Big men tend to have foot problems. I think DJ will be OK. I actually think this works in the team's favor. Look for Strickland to become as aggressive as he was at the beginning of the season. As for tonight, I love the matchups on the outside. Wilmont and Vaden vs. Ager and Brown should be classics. The 2 best defenders in the conference not named Dee Brown, against maybe the top 2 offensive wing players in the BigTen. Don't know what we are gonna do with Davis, other than Killer getting him in foul trouble. But I like the way IU matches up against MSU. Of course, the homecourt and desperation advantage are gonna make it tough for IU to escape with a win. I would like it very much for MSU to just come out guns a blazin'. Ager needs to make some shots, Davis needs to be a presence offensively(which means calling sets that put him closer than 20 feet to the basket), and Trannon/Gray need to continue to help out. Please win Spartans, preferably by a lot. Yeah, the Trannon/Gray combo is what I'm worried about. I think Davis will have a big game unless we can get him in foul trouble. IU just has to stop one of Brown/Ager. Of course, Davis will put Vaden at the 4 all night and Ager or Brown (whoever Wilmont isn't guarding) will go for 30. I just got home in time to see that this game got a bit out of hand for IU. What's been the biggest weakness tonight?
  15. true? please no. It's somewhat true. Nothing about re-breaking his foot. Completely different injury, but yeah he's gonna be out for a while, I doubt we see him back this year. http://iuhoosiers.collegesports.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/010906aaa.html I suppose this means that Ben Allen MUST step up and become a bit more physical. Otherwise, IU could get hurt on the boards and on defense by teams that have depth in the paint. Sean Kline cannot be the answer IMO. Are all of my favorite teams cursed?
  16. true? please no.

    Wood

Not to me. I am a Wood detractor becuase he hasn't learned to be a pitcher yet. He is still a thrower. He has yet to learn to control the strike zone and seems to lose concentration at times. IMO, all this leads to arm and shoulder troubles. thank you for not mentioning "mechanics", i would have gone on my token steve stone rant. Sully, Without search being enabled, some may not know what beef you have with Stone and his criticism of Woody's mechanics. Can you elaborate?

    Wood

This topic makes me more than a bit hot as well...I'm not sure that anyone knows for certain when he'll be back and how effective he'll be. I'm saving any further comment for when more is known.
  19. Me too... I hope this isn't too huge. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b6/mu_focker/37dd069f.jpg Strangely enough, I thought that Southside was referring to Tree's OTHER idea earlier in the thread..
  20. Dude, I love that speed in the 2 hole. Thinking about what you love in the 2 hole is just about as disgusting as this report concerning Jones :x
  21. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2266303 This may have been discussed elsewhere, but I didn't see such a thread. Soriano's quotes in this article do nothing to endear him to anyone. The man is making $10 million a year and this is what he has to say about changing positions and playing in the NL: Many players have expressed the desire to not change positions, so I will give him that much. So basically he's stating that learning new pitchers and batters would require too much work. This is the type of player that every team needs.
  22. But not as good. Last I saw, Pie is hitting a blazing .208 in winter ball. So? Macias was hitting like .375 It means nothing. Which of the Dominican and Venezuelan leagues showcases the better pitching talent?
  23. Word is that Urbina has asked another inmate - some guy named "Rojo" - for a poster of Rita Hayworth. Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.
