Arizona 3rd Hudson grounds out 1-3 Tracy grounds out 3 unassisted on first pitch Gonzalez called out on a high fastball Guzman 10 pitches, 8 strikes Total: 51/31 Gonzalez ejected by plate umpire Brian Knight. AZ manager Bob Melvin also tossed.
Somebody has to want to be in this rotation. Right now it's Zambrano, Maddux and nobody is stepping up. Angel usually has better control. How many innings has Guzman thrown this Spring? Seems like not a lot. He was pretty wild in the AFL at first as well. But once he got some innings in under his belt he turned it around. Hopefully he can pull a J. Williams and throw some shut-out ball for the remainder of the game. Guzman came in with 4 IP in Cactus League games this spring plus another 3 in a sim game last week.
AZ first DaVanon grounds out 5-3 Hudson walks Tracy walks Gonzalez flies to right Jackson walks Green doubles to LC gap, scoring 2. Drew grounds out 2-3. 4-2 Cubs Guzman 33 pitches, 18 strikes in the first.
Hairston line single to left. Steals second base. Perez homer to right. Walker walk. Jones foulout to first baseman Barrett triple to RC gap, scoring Walker. Mabry sac fly to right, scoring Barrett. Murton groundout 5-3. 4-0 Cubs. I'll do what I can until I have to go downstairs to the clubhouse.
The original lineup the Giants printed had "Mike Maddux" as the Cubs' pitcher. Thought we had a story there. I'll toast to St. Paddy's day after work, of course.
Lineups Cubs (in green caps and blue jerseys) Pierre, CF Walker, 2B Jones, RF Ramirez, 3B Mabry, 1B Murton, LF Cedeno, SS Blanco, C Maddux, P Giants Nunez, RF Durham, 2B Finley, CF Bonds, LF Sweeney, 1B Matheny, C Chavez, 3B De La Rosa, SS Lowry, P
Boston sucked on defense. It is interesting, though, that the Red Sox acquired Dave Roberts and Doug Mientkiewicz to help them with speed and defense down the stretch.
Was it an open-view MRI or the traditional tube? Was it with contrast or without? While none of this information is relevant, you still don't want Sullivan scooping you, do you? While off topic, Bruce, can give me your assessment of Pie's spring so far? Thanks in advance if possible. It was an MRI arthrogram, during which dye is injected into the shoulder. Beyond that, I don't know anything else. It is possible they'll announce something today. The medical and training staff will meet with Yocum Saturday to plan a course of action from here.
There is some sort of limited no-trade that I believe kicks in April 1, but I don't know the exact language. There seems to be little interest in Walker around the big leagues right now.
The Mariners' lineup isn't out yet, but the Cubs will go this way: Pierre, CF Walker, 2B Ramirez, 3B Jones, RF Grissom, DH Mabry, 1B Murton, LF Cedeno, SS Kopitzke, C Williams, P
None of this is a big deal, just as most spring lineups aren't. Jacque Jones isn't back from Minnesota yet. The Cubs want to look at Hairston in the outfield, and Cedeno has seen the bulk of action at shortstop.
Hey, after we get Cabrera, we can even afford a slip up or two there. Right Bruce? The rumors are true, right? RIGHT? Uh, no. At $472,000 or whatever it is, Cabrera is one of the few guys the Marlins can afford.
