  9. 10 pitches, 9 strikes in the third. 37/27 for the game so far.
  10. Second inning: 10 pitches, 6 strikes for Marshall. He got behind Hart and walked him, but it was all strikes aside from that.
  11. No guns here, but Marshall looks good. In the first, he threw 17 pitches, 12 strikes.
  12. Brewers make a late change, subbing Nelson Cruz in LF for El Caballo. Can you please refrain from the Hawk Harelson refrences? OK, they gone!!

  15. I don't think there's any hypocrisy involved at all on Baker's part on this whole what he says about veterans versus what he says about young players. It's this way all around baseball. Perez has a guaranteed two year contract. He's going to be here no matter what. Cedeno is a young player and because he's the likely starter, the microscope is on him a little bit more. I asked Dusty the question yesterday about Ronny. It's really not a question you'd ask about Perez because his job situation is different and he has a proven track record, whether you like that track record or not. It was one of those situations yesterday where I said: "Hey, Ronny started off slowly and now he's hitting better. Dusty, what's your take on it." He was asked. He commented. And his take on Cedeno was very positive.
  16. Haven't seen a Brewers lineup yet, but the Cubs will go: Pierre, CF Hairston, 2B Ramirez, 3B Jones, RF Barrett, C Walker, 1B Murton, LF Cedeno, SS Marshall, P
  17. Ronny Cedeno will be the starting shortstop on Opening Day. Baker, in fact, has been very supportive of both him and Murton, talking to both constantly. If you read the whole, quote, as it appeared in the Daily Herald (shameless plug), you'll see that Baker ended it by saying something to the effect that Ronny "will do it."
  18. Koronka in the seventh. One inning, one walk, one strikeout.
  19. OK, Hill is done. 3 IP 0 H 0 R 3 BB 5 SO Curve and fastball were much better. I'd say the fifth-spot derby is on.
  20. Got to get writing. Where did I leave off? Cubs fifth Barrett walks Mabry double play. Murton infield single up the middle Cedeno lines out to first. AZ fifth DaVanon strikes out Hudson walks Tracy called out on strikes (fastball) Scott Hairston pops out Cubs sixth Hill reaches on infield single and goes to second on Mulholland wild pitch Hairston reaches second base as D'Backs first baseman drops throw after a groundball second, Hill scores Perez doubles home a run Walker doubles home a run Jones grounds out PH Blanco flies out, Walker to third. Mabry grounds out. 9-2 Cubs Marshall starts tomorrow. That's it for now. Got to get to work.
  21. AZ fourth with Hill pitching Jackson grounds out 5-3 Green strikes out Drew walks Snyder walks PH Frazier strikes out. Didn't see the walks. Was in the clubhouse talking to Guzman.
  22. No radar gun here, but the fastball looked sharp. The rotation to start the season is Zambrano, Rusch, Maddux and Williams. No fifth starter needed until April 15. As for registering on the Daily Herald site, a lot of papers are doing that nowadays.
  23. Cubs 4th Mabry lines a single to center Murton singles hard off the SS glove on the backhand Cedeno bunts for a single while trying to sacrifice PH Luis Montanez singles to center scoring 2. Hairston pops out to third Perez pops out to third Walker hit by pitch Jones grounds out 4-3. 6-2 Cubs. Rich Hill coming in to pitch.
