Kind of makes you think about that prospect's accusation about how Hendry treated him. Not to say Jim did ruin his career, but he comes across as a decent guy in most interviews, but it's coming out that he's much more of a jerk we might have thought. Knowing what I know about that situation, I'll side with Jim. Maybe the Cubs shouldn't have drafted that kid in the first place.
Not like that anyway. They've told me they didn't like a story or a column here or there, but it never got to the point where we were cussing at each other.

The beat writers from all the papers usually get the home weekend series off. I'll be back tonight. I'll also be at the Cell this weekend and in Florida next week.
I don't. There must be thousands of Dusty-bashers out there, maybe more. There's bound to be a couple of idiots out of those thousands. He gets more of that kind of stuff than you may think. Sad.
I don't think it speaks volumes. MLB is a good ole boy network. Reputation and tenure is much more important to "baseall people" than actual ability and merit. And I'm not sure Dusty would get another job right away. In 98 the Cubs offense ranked 5th/7th/5th in AVG/OBP/SLG, and 11th in ERA (with only a 97 ERA+, tied with 3 other teams for 8th place ie, below average). How did he get 90 wins out of them? I'm not saying Riggs was a genius or anything, but he's a dude who took a fall for his GM's failing, moreso than Baker would be. Riggleman was a much better manager than he gets credit for. But when you have his won-loss record (Padres and Cubs), it's a tough sell for another city. Jim was extremely prepared. He could articulate reasons for doing or not doing things as well as anybody. He also ran a good clubhouse. Not all the players liked him, but that's the case with any manager.
Thanks for the nice thread. I appreciate it. You guys have once again shown yourselves to be fair and knowledgeable. I've taken a little criticism for my comments on Dusty, but I wrote them in the spirt of "fair is fair." If you give Hendry this extension and he put together this roster, then I think it would be unfair to blame this all on the manager. Maybe Maddux can get you guys a win tonight!
I'm not Bruce, but at last report he was playing catch while suffering through a horrible case of the sniffles and had a touch of a tummy ache! He had Scott Eyre syndrome. He couldn't pitch b/c he might mess himself. Nothing new today.

That Bruce can multi task with the best of them. I like it!!! You can't throw though! 'Cause I'm really left-handed, and I tried to throw righty there.
