  1. That's exactly how I've been feeling about things. An OF of Murton, Jones, and Soriano has alot of upside to be one of the best in the NL. If Murton can improve and still be the patient batter we've all come to love, and Jones and Soriano can come close to their 2006 numbers, than thats a decent hitting outfield. The problem with the offense lies at SS. We cannot have Izturis batting there in this lineup. Please find a suitor for him Jim.
  2. We may or may not be at 95 mil, depending on whether you think the New York Times is a reliable source. Bruce Miles carried the same Soriano contract details in his piece today, and he cited the AP as his source. There is no mention of how Soriano's bonus is spread however, so it could be 17 million in 2007, or 10 million with a million per year over 7 more years thereafter. After this new information, let me amend my previous statement: We may or may not be at 95 mil, depending on whether you think the New York Times, Bruce Miles, and the AP are reliable sources.[/quote ESPN.com has his salary right now at 10 mil for 2007. I think that goes along with the spreading the bonus out evenly throughtout the contract.
  3. hahaha, why'd they even bother putting this in the contract??? Yep, none. Absolutely no chance in the next eight years. None. Zip. No chance. Not even a little. How many other ways can I say this? This is fun! The Cubs have no chance to win....ever! Weeeeee! Not even a slightest sliver of a glimmer of hope of a World Series victory. You look at this album cover and you have to ask yourself how much more black could this be and the answer is none. None more black. Just to reiterate, in case I wasn't clear in my earlier comments, no hope. Glad that's been straightened out.   Back to my beer(s) now. spinal tap reference and the cubs in the same sentence. Well i never..
  4. I was really hoping at least 2 of the years would be option years, but hey you can always trade him.
  5. Any chance A-Ram can call his cousin up to whine to the Bosox brass to trade him to Wrigley?
  6. Jacque Jones - 2 years/10 mil Career - 280/.328/.461 2006 - .285/.334/.499 Gary Matthews Jr. - 5 years/50 mil Career - .263/.336/.419 2006 - .313/.371/.495 I think there's a case to be made that he has "some solid trade value". That is why I think it would be crazy to trade him. It is very popular around here to bash him, but in this lineup he can be a very productive player as your fifth or sixth best hitter. Unless you can seriously upgrade, I don't think it is a bad idea to keep him. You're right. I wouldn't mind keeping him. Problem is, the feeling here is that the lineup needs one more productive bat, and by trading Jones away, you free up room to put in another impact bat like Andruw Jones or Pat Burrell. Also Jones has been linked to rumored talk of a Jake Westbrook trade. If you can sign Julio Lugo to be your starting SS, or trade for a SS like Renteria, there probably isnt a need to trade jones.

  8. Oh man I hope you're right. Zambrano? Schmidt? Hill? Westbrook? Miller (with prior on the background)? Pitchingasm. Honestly, if you get Schmidt, Westbrook, and a decent SS, you probably have a team that could compete with the mets for the best in the NL when healthy.
  9. Tejada & Jones > Wells & Izturis/Cedeno not to mention Wells is a year rental, because his contract demands after 2007 will be insane, especially after the year he is going to have in his contract year.
  10. Requesting a split up of this thread since its turned into a Pie thread.
  11. Wow, if we're only at 95 mil at this point in our spending spree, with a projected 125 spending limit, then we could afford 2 more impact players (through FA or trade)
  12. Does pie project to be more of a power hitter later in his career, somewhere around his prime years? He seems like a Vlad Lite from his tools.
  13. I'd venture to guess that he's going to have a pretty great year this year, it being his contract year and all. I think he's as good as gone by the trading deadline. He's going to make a lot of money in the 2007 offseason.
  14. The early favorites is obviously GMJ or Pierre but I like Barry Zito as a darkhorse.
  15. I think what alot of people are forgetting is that Neifi effing perez consumed over 800 AB's in the last 2 years. Not to mention Juan Pierre, Cesar Izturis, Ronny Cedeno, Angel Pagan, Freddie Bynum, John Mabry took turns being absolutely dismal at their respective positions. Not ot mention the smorgasbord of AA pitching that got their turn starting with Maddux gone, Prior down, Wood down, etc.. Last year's team no doubt was badly put together, but don't take away from the fact that we had a lot of bad players eating up starts and innings. If you can get a couple quality bats, a couple quality arms, a well put together bench, and some lucky breaks as far as health goes (Prior and Wood returning?), we're world series contenders.
  16. With a healthy DLee, and replacing Neifi and Pierre with Derosa and Soriano, you are going to be disappointed in that projection.
  17. As opposed to Baker's favorite model Speed Catches ball Power Power Power Scrappy Can play the game right way Catcher until he has proven himself for 2 years Pitcher
  18. I don't have a problem with that. Soriano is going to be a future LF IMO anyway. I don't buy into that RF for years to come deal .
  19. His character issues make me wary about taking him on. But if it cost us Pawelek and Colvin, I'd be up for it. He has GREAT patience, and has so much about him that would add a great deal to this team. He is toolsy, which Hendry loves. I'd definately look into getting him .
  20. I've seen Jones go in some deals to Boston for Manny, but they all have looked unrealistic because the amount of money they're going to pay manny (7M more than the amount to Jones), would cut into the money they are going to end up signing Glavine for (and yes, they will get him, since the mets won't). 3 team deal with Hudson to cubs anyone?
  21. Link. From what I can ascertain, Muskat is not a very good "beat writer". Rarely has she come up with insider knowledge regarding the direction the Cubs are going to take. It looks like she is taking info from various other sources and turning them into her own analysis.
  22. http://wiki.coolmon.org/files/cookie.jpg No milk?
  23. Which will force our hand to up the ante for payroll, right :D?
  24. Eww at lugo in CF. I'd rather play Pie immediately than sign him to the deal he's going to get, plus the production he's going to put up is not going to be worth it. What about Kenny Lofton people? he hasn't had a bad season since he left cleveland. Last year he put up a .360 OBP, and he was relatively healthy for most of last year. He'd be a great stop gap option for Pie, and would fill a need for OBP at the CF position. Sign him up for a 1 year/4 mil deal please.
  25. I've been saying all along that it would be that high. this only confirms it.
