  1. He just called Vargas, Aquino though. and said Cedeno was going to be our starting 2b. But definitely better than yesterday That guy yesterday was making me mad with the Pie/Pagan confusion.
  2. EPatt! Jenkins grounds out 4-3 for the third out in the first.
  3. He obviously doesn't realize that merchandise sales are split between all MLB teams Is that true in Japan as well as the US? Sometimes the rules for things like copyrights are different in different countries and MLB may allow teams to take advantage of that while looking the other way. Also, does the CBA bar teams from doing their own merchandising above and beyond what MLB does? I know that teams can have club shops in the stadium and within a certain radius around the stadium, and they get all of the money generated that route. Not sure how overseas merchandising works.
  4. I want to get my money back from MLB.com. This is seriously ridiculous.
  5. http://cubs.mlb.com/mediacenter/index.jsp#20070305 why thank you.
  6. Did anyone else see the front page article on the cubs.com site that says you can watch the game on mlb.tv? I didn't think this game was going to be available on mlb.tv but if it actually is I am definitely going to have to skip class to watch it.
  7. Ted Lilly -TR Scott Eyre -Eyre Supply
  8. Ok, sorry then. I was just reading on the previous page when the guy you were arguing with was comparing him to Marquis/Lilly and that stuck in my head. It is a bad contract in a vacuum, yes, but when you have the payroll of the Yankees it's not bad, and I love the fact that you don't have the longterm, potentially crippling commitment.
  9. I read it the first time, and you've never adressed what I wrote back to you. Do you read other peoples responses? Where has Pettitte been pitching for the last three years? Are the next three years going to look more like his last three years or like his first three years? Now factor in pay. He played in a bandbox. Factor in long term commitment. MMP ranks right around Wrigley in terms of park factors, although they do flutuate from year to year. It's neither a hitter heaven nor a ptichers delight. Long term commitement has nothing to do with this as he signed a 1 year contract. He's an average pitcher that is getting paid 16 million dollars. Didn't this start off with comparing Pettitte to our signings of Marquis and Lilly? I'd rather have Pettitte at one year and 16 mil than either of the guys we signed for multi-year deals.
  10. I think he said the team was going to win something like 100 or 120 games. Ahhh, I just remember a thermometer graphic that someone made.
  11. Didn't Carlos also say he was going to win 50 games or some outlandish number a couple years ago?

  13. Yeah I have been complaining about that a lot lately. Its just a ploy to make prospective subscribers think they are getting something better than they are.
  14. It is nice to see Soriano & Pie hanging out in many of the ST photos. Rookie phenom Felix Pie? I think that's a bit of wishful thinking at this point. He's a good prospect but as I recall he's not even top 50 in the league. Baseball America rankings: 49. Felix Pie in 06: 27 in 05: 31 in 04: 85 in 03: 72
  15. Interesting. If Lou is dead set on a lefty in the 2 slot here I'd rather see what Pagan could do there than Izturis. Pagan's not an option for the two spot on a regular basis though-it's Murton, Jones, DeRosa, or Izturis-Piniella said he is looking for patience there and the ability to hit fastballs and hit the ball to all fields. I don't mind Izturis there for now-if he shows those abilities, then that's great. If he doesn't, let's find it out in ST and not during the regular season. I agree but I would rather see him get some AB's to show what he has or doesn't have. Ahh-yeah, I'd definitely put him in front of Blanco-it's not like Blanco's AB's are really going to be important in spring. I do think Lou cares more about finding the proper lineup order though then evaluating the different possible 25th man candidates-it's an interesting question of which is more important right now. Well let's hope that Lou's son tells him how bad of a hitter Izturis really is! Well, as I think you know, while there's a decent chance Izturis will be really bad I also think there's a decent chance from a close analysis of his numbers that he'd be all right-I'm hoping this spring indicates that he's returned to be the latter than the former. Care to give me the details of your close analysis? I see at best a guy who could possibly hit .300 given an incredible amount of luck, and due to a lack of plate discipline and power would still be pretty worthless offensively. Defensively of course he should be pretty good, so I can live with him if he is the 8th hitter and everyone else in the lineup hits well.
  16. It was only based on free agents that could have been signed this offseason. Jeter wasn't eligible.
  17. I was checking out his stats on Baseball Reference and it seems he was top ten in Intentional Walks three times in his career! I assume he was batting 8th and they walked him to face the pitcher, but it still blows my mind. If this isn't an indictment of baseball convention wisdom I don't know what is.
  18. No o, no d. Ahhh ok, so he used to be Rey Rdnez early in his career, but by the time he played for us he had become Rey Rnez.
  19. I hate those spring training batting practice uniforms so much. The hats look like ranger hats with a C to me.
  20. This article isn't even about the cubs. Its about the Free agent market and that trying to build a team purely on free agent signings is only going to give you a mediocre team that costs a lot.
