  1. Good to see I'm not a Pac-10 homer. :) Don't think the Cubs will take Harvey today - not with the financial situation. Seems like if they wanted to make a run at signing him they would have taken him with that last pick.
  2. Haha, I love the irony. I think it is mostly because people want to be as sure as possible they are getting an elite prospect with a third pick, but with a later pick they are more accepting of risky high school prospects. I don't mind the Vitters pick, as long as the primary motivation behind it was that they actually thought he was the BPA, and not because they need to be stingy with the money. And my anger, if the pick was financially motivated, is mostly directed toward the circumstances of the impending sale of the team and not Hendry or Wilkin or anyone in the front office. I also don't mind the Donaldson pick, because he looks like he could be a solid hitter, I just want to be the team who throws their financial weight around to give themselves really good drafts every year no matter where they pick, like the Yankees, Red Sox, or us last year(although in my opinion we did it poorly, but what is my opinion worth?) If we had Wieters and Harvey right now I would be much happier than I am, but Vitters and Donaldson isn't terrible, imo.
  3. Seemed like all indications pointed to Jarrod Parker.
  4. What makes you think we would take him if he did? It's a shame Samardzija didn't like football more, maybe we could have put the money he got into this draft. That wouldn't have happened. The money would have been a problem this year with the impending sale whether the team went above slot with several guys last year or not. Oh I know. I am just really pissed that we have to be a value team this year when we had a chance to get an elite college catcher, and then a couple first round talents slip to us and we have to take another slot money pick.

  6. 55. Bos: LHP Nicholas Hagadone Boston passed on both of the northeast pitchers.
  7. It's really sad that I am wishing we had Bowden instead of Hendry.
  8. there goes Cumberland. Only the Mets and us. Hope we don't mess this up with a reach.
  9. Does McGeary have signability concerns? If both he and Harvey are there, who would you take?
  10. I hope we would. We better not pass on a guy who has better talent just to stay under slot. We are a big market team, we have to take advantage of that.
  11. Even if Harvey is there, would we take him, with all this staying under slot business?
  12. For all the talk about the high school kids not handling their interviews well, I think Gammons has been much worse.
  13. whew. Somebody sell me on Parker, I don't want to be in a bad mood all day about it.
  14. I love Kerry. I sure hope he can make it back.
  15. The Cubs have had a very poor track record when it comes to drafting high school hitters... but more importantly, the Cubs have a need at catcher, and also have a need for high-OBP players. Wieters is a polished college bat who fills both those needs. That's the bigger reason why I'd hate drafting Vitters or Moustakas. Oh I agree, I want Wieters, I am just not as negative on high schoolers as you are. High school hitters do sometimes pan out too, and I do like the fact that Wilken is doing the picking. If he wants Vitters, then I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt to the point where I will wait a couple years to see how he turns out.
  16. Some people hate high schoolers for no good reason except that Ryan Harvey and Luis Montanez sucked. Also, position scarcity. I want Wieters, but I wouldn't be too upset with Vitters. Although as far as high school hitters go, I think I would prefer Moustakas or Heyward.
  17. After looking over the Peoria stats all I can say is...wow. What a bad hitting team. Is it time to give up on Dylan Johnston yet?
  18. I love Valaika, although I wish he had a better chance of sticking at shortstop. I am also looking forward to checking out the Triunfel kid. Also Juan Francisco of the Dragons looks interesting. Its strange to now be older than a majority of MWLeaguers.
  19. (in Kane County) So apparently my friend got some pretty good tickets and I am really excited. When will the rosters be announced? Any chiefs looking like they will make it? I'm pretty excited to see Clayton Kershaw and Brett Anderson. Anyone else I should be excited for?
