  1. Yanks just took Peavey. If anyone can buy him away from his commitment they are the team to do it.
  2. Was just about to say the same thing. If Donaldson turns into a solid starting catcher with some offense, and they get a few quality utility guys and a reliever or two out of this draft, I'd have to call it a success even if Vitters misses his upside. Even if all we get is a couple solid utility guys and relievers, it's better than a lot of Cub drafts.
  3. looks to me like everybody flamed the Cubs organization for mere rumors about taking a guy that Billy Beane ended up taking, and yet no criticism was directed his way. it also looks like there is an aweful lot of anger at the Cubs for taking an approach to this draft that is not unlike the approach that Billy Beane takes to the draft, and the founder of this board got flamed for even pointing that out. The "flaming" was about rumors they'd take him with the 3rd pick. They were unfounded rumors, but rumors nonetheless. I don't see an awful lot of anger. I see some anger from some people who had strong opinions about specific players going in, but most of what has been going on is observation about the apparant strategy, and not necessarily blasting that strategy. The biggest anger is about the apparant lack of available funds to really invest heavily in what was thought to be a deep draft. yes.
  4. 667. RHP Craig Muschko La Salle U. 2.95 ERA, 12 G, 58 IP, 54 H, 18BB/40K, .248 BAA
  5. Between this thread and the Cub's picks thread its getting kind of confusing.
  6. 637. Dustin Sasser LHP East Caroline U. Another college lefty
  7. The more I hear about Donaldson and Thomas the more I like the picks.
  8. 607. Jose Made SS Dominican College .338/.433/.531 10 2B, 3 3B, 4 HR, 11/11 SB, 19BB/21K, 145 AB http://www.chargerathletics.com/sports/bsb/2007/news/053107bsb I kind of like the pick.
  9. former pitching coach Oscar Acosta's son Ryan. One of only two high school players picked in the entire draft.
  10. Day is a somewhat interesting one: .315/.401/.465, 11 2B, 5 3B, 3 HR, 10/11 SB, 48K/29BB. He played both catcher and outfield for Michigan State this year, but more catcher. He's only a sophomore, and he is a switch hitter. Those are his 2006 stats as a freshman. This year he hit .295/.438/.434 12 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, 14/17 SB, 33/38 BB/K in 166 at-bats, as opposed to 200 in '06 profile I am betting he will be a tough sign. With a good year his draft position could go way up.
  11. 547. Jeffrey Rea 2B Mississippi St. http://www.mstateathletics.com/doc_lib/stats/bb/200607/teamcume.htm Good batting average, very little power, few strike-outs.
  12. I lied, but Callis is having another chat in a couple hours.
  13. It's still going on, so get your questions in!"
  14. http://kuathletics.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/stats/2006-2007/teamcume.html Pretty crappy statistics. Transferred from TCU
  15. 04-05. They overruled him on Townsend. But I believe he nabbed guys like Niemann, Brignac, Davis and McGee in 04 (damn, what a haul that was). not to mention Sonnanstine, in the 13th round. His 05 draft was pretty uninspiring, as stupid as it is to judge a draft after two years. Two of his higher picks from that draft are in our organization doing next to nothing(Reinhard and Lopez). It seems in TB his drafts were a lot more high school oriented. What years did he play a major role in Toronto?
  16. What years was Wilkin with what organizations? There needs to be a statistics website for scouts and scouting directors.
  17. Harvey would have been a "much better" pick there? The same Harvey that went in the middle of the third round? Harvey was a top fifteen talent that dropped because its going to cost a lot to get him to not stick to his college commitment (Boras clients are known to attend college and not look back)
  18. Don't forget that Oscar Acosta was also the Cubs pitching coach a few years back. I wonder if he prefers pitching or playing shortstop, because I would bet our chances of signing him would hinge greatly on that, since his college commitment is to play ss. Where's Meph?
  19. Neifi for me and it's not even close. The time reporters asked him something like "why are you starting" or "why did you hit so well" (I don't remember the question) and he said "because of this" and flexed his bicep sold the deal for me. The fact that he knew how to have a little hot streak to earn himself playing time, and worse yet a multi-year deal boiled my blood. He came off as extremely cocky, when he should have just realized how bad he was.
  20. I don't like the name Darwin Barney, or the pick.
  21. I was just going to ask you why you thought Carpenter was slipping. Think he plans to return to school for his junior year?
