  1. I have never heard of this guy. Raisin is my pick to win it all.
  2. Mitch Atkins is terribly under-rated IMO. His numbers over the last two years have been in the same ballpark as Jacob McGee who is only one year younger, yet you never hear about him, whereas everyone loves McGee.
  3. It is coming from the money that is going to be used to bring in other players though. Just because we aren't directly responsible for the budget doesn't mean that it doesn't affect us as fans, or that we shouldn't take it into consideration.
  4. Lansford's been awful with the bat????? He is hitting .287 which is higher than any other player on our roster who was here on Opening Day. He is 2nd on the team in RBI, 1st in doubles, doesnt strikeout much (20 in 180 AB) and is easily the one guy on this team I would want up in a clutch situation. And he is the best defensive 3rd baseman I have seen in the MWL. .694 OPS, 50th in the league. 20/11 K/BB. Average doesn't mean much. I'll stay out of the OPS vs. Avg debate this season. All I'm saying is if you were to watch this team every day you would know that the 2 players who stand out head and shoulder above are Josh and Castillo. Standing out above the crap on that roster doesn't mean much to me, no offense. A .694 ops is bad, and the fact that he is an advanced, 23 year old, college draftee just makes it worse. HE IS NOT 23...cant anyone here add, or subtract??? ouch. Hitting me where it really hurts. Nobody is saying that they have anything personal against the guy, all we are saying is that a sub .700 ops is fairly bad. Why are you so combative?
  5. dont count on it. if we had the cash to sign them we would have gotten better players in rounds 3-10. Yeah, I'm not holding my breath. It just doesn't make much sense to even pick them without thinking that you have a chance at signing them.
  6. 37th rounder sounds intriguing: Mike McGee made a late push into contention for a spot in the first five rounds of the draft. He's lean and athletic, and plays a sound shortstop when he's not pitching. On the mound, McGee sits between 88-92 mph with his fastball and has plus command. His curveball shows plus movement and his changeup grades as a future 55 on the 20-to-80 scale.

  8. As did I. looks like neither of us got an answer.
  9. I don't think it was a bad idea, they just have to keep repeating the message that this isn't the NFL and NBA. I don't think it's about a lack of effort, I do think some people may be putting their effort into the wrong things. But baseball is a weird game. Baseball is a game where you need great skill, and lots of time to hone those skills into real baseball ability. Anything can derail a promising prospect, such as injury, drugs, lack of dedication, complacency, a glitch that opponents exploit, etc. Baseball also drafts a ton of 17/18/19 year olds, while the NFL is strictly a 21/22 year old draft game. If you forced every baseball player to play 3 years of college, I think you'd see a much different result in the efficiency of the draft. Look at your top 100 high school football recruit list, and then look what they are doing 5-6 years down the road. I think you'll see a lot of busts. Check out of the 1st round QB draft picks and their success compared to 1st round pitchers. \ then y wouldnt they make a rule like that? wouldnt it make the draft more efficient? the players would still get here, they just would have a higher chance of really working out Two reasons come to my mind: 1) Teams want to develop their own players as opposed to letting the colleges do it. 2) Players want their paydays without risking injury/suckiness in college. Since both sides have good reason to keep it the way it is, there is not going to be a change.
  10. If we can sign these few guys, with a little more upside, like Day, Sanchez and now Clark, I will be much happier with this draft.
  11. http://admin.xosn.com/fls/11700/Stats_Cumulative/Bball/2007/teamcume.htm At face value his numbers look decent, but when you see that the team batting average is .319, they don't look nearly as impressive.
  12. I thought you were an English teacher.
  13. He out-doubled the 7th overall pick!
  14. So can we chalk this one up to our player development?
  15. I would predict resigning Ramirez to a 3-4 year deal at 33 would be unwise. it depends on how hes playing at the time, A-Rod will be i think 33 this offseason and people want to give him a 7-8 year deal, so A-Ram for 3-4 isnt that bad ARod is considerably better than Aramis ya thats y hes getting around twice the deal A ram would, but i think thats an unfair comment, ARod is considerably better than everyone in baseball, and is one the the 5 best hitters of all time, if not the best. Then why did you use him as a comparison?
  16. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/?p=154#comments Thought this would make you happy, Raisin.
  17. Callis is currently answering some questions, if anyone wants to get any in.
  18. 787. LHP Michael Bunton, Col of Charleston 6.72 ERA, 65.2 IP, 95 H, 28BB/47K, .333BAA
  19. The more I think about it the more this Sanchez pick has me scratching my head. With how the draft has been going it makes absolutely no sense, but they wouldn't pick him unless they knew they had a shot at signing him, at least. With all the money they saved in the middle rounds on college seniors, perhaps they can afford to offer him enough?
  20. Sounds like the moment he signs, he will be the system's best Catching prospect. Peoria a possibility?
  21. A BA top 100 guy! Any chance they actually shell out the dough for this guy?
