  1. I'm not saying he's likely to be an ace, or the centerpiece of a major trade. I'm simply disputing your statement that he's trash, which is definitely not supported. There's a world of middle ground between being an ace and being trash. I'm just trying to bring some perspective to this....you are not going to get a bat like Dye for a guy of Mateo's value. He may not be trash, but he isn't very good either and I think he is a 5 starter at best. Put yourself as a White Sox fan, and your team is in selling mode....and one of your biggest chips is Dye. My reaction to a Mateo for Dye trade would be that Mateo is trash compared to what we could/should get for Dye. Except that wasn't the trade you reacted to. It was Mateo and Murton for Dye, which from a Cubs perspective, would be a bad idea. Dye at his best, is probably better than Murton could every dream. But Dye is rarely at his best and is in his mid 30's now, so hoping for a resurgence isn't wise. Typical Dye isn't any better than Murton. I don't see how that could be a bad trade at all. First off, the Cubs are never gonna really utiize Murton correctly, and I really don't see Mateo providing any value to this rotation. A lineup with Dye in RF could easly power this team deep into the playoffs. I would gladly make that sacrifice. Then why did you respond to the first suggestion of that deal with: ? Maybe instead of a mocking one liner that added nothing to the discussion you should have stated your actual opinion of the deal.
  2. I am hardly a Cedeno believer, but young players first breaking into the majors typically improve as time progresses. and i feel the same way about cedeno as i do about pie: they may be good big leaguers long term, but a playoff chase isn't the time to break in the rookies. i know that creates the question of "when is the right time" and right now, i don't know. A playoff chase isn't the ideal time to break in rookies, but Ronny isn't a rookie and the production he would be replacing is barely above average at best. At any rate I think Cedeno should at least be on the bench backing up 2b/ss with DeRosa getting a lot of time in right field.

  4. hmm for some reason I thought he already was a mod :? congrats.
  5. I would like to see a combination of either Cedeno at SS, Fontenot at 2b and Derosa in RF or Cedeno at SS, Derosa at 2b and Floyd in RF. I am just not all that high on Theriot and I prefer his versatility and speed coming off the bench. Also Fontenot's minor league numbers make me feel more comfortable with him playing everyday.
  6. Losing playing time to a guy like Nook Logan tends to do that to a player.
  7. So are you saying that Ronny Cedeno's basement level of productions is something close to the .291/.352/.486 that Lopez put up in 2005?
  8. Where is the love fest you are talking about? I looked back and there were only two references to the guy! do you contest that quote? I think its pretty safe to say that it is the truth that Murton had a full season of experience in the major leagues. That person only said that Murton is a better option than Craig Monroe! I think what we need to be asking is why you hate Murton so much?

  10. Gallagher and Moore seems like a steep price for Nady. Maybe I just overestimate our prospects...
  11. QFT. If we're gonna get another outfielder to start, he had better be a Griffey or a Dunn or someone that would be worth keeping over Murton. Isn't Church adequate in center field though?
  12. Sizemore is probably one of the most untouchable players in all of baseball.
  13. Nope. Just off the top of my head, Larry Walker has to have more than Stairs.

  15. tailgating is the awesome.
  16. Someone is definitely going to regret signing Byrnes in a few years.
  17. I love Ethier, but isn't he just a lefty Matt Murton?
  18. I want Stairs! didn't Harry drink Bud?
  19. fix your quotes, man! and I don't really disagree with the sentiment that JJ will hit better in the second half, I am just arguing against your statement that claimed he will put up an ops close to 900 because he hit so poorly early in the year. It's incorrect.
  20. Probably Howry. Dempster is only available in emergency situations today. good. I hope they don't throw Dempster straight into the closer role. I would prefer easing him back in, maybe letting him close out the 3 run games, and eventually reclaiming the job.
