  1. Dusty will convince Krivsky that it's a good trade for them and those 3 "youngins" won't ever perform as well as the veterans. To be fair, if the Cubs had position prospects like Bruce or Votto when Dusty was around they probably would have played. He didn't turn out to be much, but Hee Seop Choi was comparable to Votto, as a prospect.
  2. It's Joe Blanton, not Jake Peavy. If Beane gets that package, he's the greatest GM ever. I would fire Jim Hendry and hired Billy Beane IMMEDIATELY, if Beane could pull that trade off. How would that happen? Beane is already employed!
  3. He's a business-of-baseball guy more than most people realize. He owns the Corpus Christi Hooks and the Round Rock Express, one of the most successful minor league teams in the country. He knows what he's doing. Seems like a conflict of interest.
  4. This was my initial thought
  5. Sunday games are much easier to get tickets to but Saturday games are much easier to get drunk at. Not if your unemployed \:D/
  6. Offensive numbers say that Rameriz isn't even the best 3rd baseman in the NL Central. But then again, many of us watch the games and see his shortcomings daily. I'll take David Wright over him any day. Thats like saying you would take Albert Pujols over Derrek Lee. Of course you would do that, but that isn't an option. It's Aramis vs. Matt Craig or Casey McGehee etc. ps Ryan Braun is no longer a 3B.
  7. And a lot of fans of other teams are thinking the same thing. Fortunately for your sanity our offers would not have been able to hang with offers from the Sox and Yanks. ---Yeah I agree with that Meph but (although I don't know much about the players that the Mets gave up), I think we could have offered Minnesota more. I hope Santana hates New York and asks it get out of his contract, and eventually files for free agency. I am pretty sure this trade is contingent on the Mets signing him long term.
  8. Is that "baseball####" that used to post here?
  9. Just because he always says "duh" after his posts doesn't mean he knows anything. I don't think that is what led CM to believe that Meph knows things.
  10. Kind of confused what the problem is. That Soriano and Ramirez projection is basically spot on, nobody is going to perfectly predict R/RBI or playtime but the OBP/SLG which is the important part is almost perfect. The only major difference with Lee is his BABIP was so extremely high last year which again you cannot predict which player get the lucky hits. That leaves DeRosa who only had a 1 year history of being decent so of course a system didn't think he'd repeat it and I'm still doubtful he repeats it since his AVG was .030 pts higher than his xAVG last year which suggests a line that looks a lot more like the PECOTA one in the future. Those projections were pretty decent and if you actually use more stable stats like xAVG, xERA etc I'm sure they are even more spot on. No system is going to predict luck correctly so when you use stats heavily influenced by luck/variance/sample size whatever you want to call it you will not get great results. i didn't pick those as good/bad examples, just put them out there as a matter of looking back. The real question is what were Meph's projection projections.
  11. Yes indeed: Brandon (Morehead, KY): What about walking to Wrigley Field and seeing the big red sign on the front of the stadium? I get chills seeing pics of it. SportsNation Rob Neyer: You're right: it's a great sign. I have to say, I started this thinking Fenway, but now I'm coming around to Wrigley. Can I call it a draw? Or is that just weaselly... Not that this matters to me in anyway whatsoever.
  12. He ended up picking Wrigley.
  13. Did you order your Handbook from BA? I have it pre-ordered through amazon, and I cannot wait for it to arrive.
  14. From Keith Law's chat Friday. No Moustakas? Keith Law is pretty ridiculous if you ask me.
  15. Well, first, I think you mean "Antonetti". Second, he works for the Indians. Third... or maybe first, you're thinking of DePodesta. I must be missing some kind of joke here, and if so, I look pretty dumb in posting this, but I'm thinking he means Matt Antonelli, Pads 3B prospect. 2b. I think he was drafted as a 3b, but they moved him to 2b pretty quickly.
  16. It seems fairly impressive to have 4/5 of a short season class A team make the majors.
  17. Could I have a pronunciation confirmation? (Joe -buh) or (Jabba)?
  18. Was I the only one that was really surprised to see that Rolen is only 32? I thought he was at least 35.
  19. Nippon Ham is the company that sponsors the team, I believe.
  20. Ironically accurate THE MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES!!?!?! yesss
  21. Jim Hendry sure looks terrible in those pics.
  22. Wow, I love Danny Ray. I didn't realize it was him, as they refer to him as Daniel in the article. Edison Volquez was always the lesser of the DVD trio in my mind, and I don't like this trade at all from the Reds perspective.
  23. How can Bavasi have so few votes?
  24. it's funny to me that cabrera was traded for a guy (miller) who's a year older Miguel Cabrera: 24 Andrew Miller: 22
