  1. I think a major factor is that while our core hitters are leaving their prime years, the Brewers core hitters are only just approaching theirs. Adding Gallardo (assuming he comes back fine in mid april), Parra, and Villanueva to the rotation for a full year in place of Vargas and Capuano should be a big improvement from within. They are also adding about 2 months of a very good hitter by having Braun for a full year. They also signed a decent centerfielder, which allows them to improve the defense a bit, by moving a natural infielder back to the infield and getting Braun in a spot where his lack of defensive prowess will hurt them the least. I still think the Cubs take the division, but I think it will be a very heated competition.
  2. AL East: Yankees AL Central: Indians AL West: Angels AL WC: Red Sox NL East: Mets NL Central: Cubs NL West: Diamondbacks NL WC: Brewers WS: Yankees over Mets
  3. Anyone who goes to a baseball game with their primary goal being to see Brian Roberts, is a moron.
  4. The "slash stats" are batting average/on-base percentage/slugging percentage! Why is there so much inconsistancy here?
  5. How is having this thread open hindering your ability to enjoy the board? I just don't get you "lock the thread" people.
  6. 1. Male or Female? Male 2. Have you always been a Cubs fan? Yes If No, who's fan were you before? 3. Have you ever heard of the Curse before? Yes 4. Do you believe that there is a Curse preventing the Cubs from going to the World Series? Emphatically, No if Yes, do you think it can be broken? 5. Do you believe that some fans use the Curse as an excuse for the Cubs loses? Yes 6. What reasons can you give to explain why the Cubs haven't had a World Series win in 100 years? Bad player development and bad player acquisition
  7. I dont care much for Theriot, but IF Soto and Pie produce close to what they are projected to, I can live with him as the worst position player on the team. The problem is that in the future I don't think the FO will ever view him as a huge weakness, which he is.
  8. It better not be, or that is one hell of an expensive platoon player.
  9. Norwegian Wood
  10. Why does Plesac think that Geo was known for his offense and struggled defensively throughout his minor league career? He brings up how impressed he is with the progress in Geo's defense during every spring broadcast I have seen.
  11. I did not know this! What happened?!
  12. I am against any move that decreases the number of plate appearances for our two best hitters.
  13. A - Ryan Howard B - Matt Holliday, Lance Berkman C - Aramis Ramirez, Grady Sizemore, Nick Swisher D - Jason Bay, Chase Utley, Hunter Pence, Curtis Granderson, Ian Kinsler WC - Evan Longoria
  14. no game thread today?
  15. The best part of this deal that doesn't involve dumping Marquis, is getting Scott Downs back. I was at this game (http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200006020.shtml) and boy did I love him after that.
  16. That's the one I was able to name off the top of my head as well...I though that was pretty good considering I was 5 for most of the 1981 season. Yeah, I got it, and I was -3. Isn't Ivan a coach now?
  17. Technically, that doesn't mean Vaz is better then Lilly, simply means he's been healthier. And to be fair, Lilly does have two other seasons in which he pitched over 180 innngs. Not to mention Lilly didn't start having 30 started games in a season until 2003 (in comparasion Vazquez was having 30 start seasons by 2001). So while I will give you Vazquez is more durable then Lilly, I certaintly won't agree that Vazquez is better due to durability. I wholeheartedly disagree with you. Health and durability absolutely factor into how "good" a pitcher is. I'm not saying I would take a guy like Livan Hernandez over a guy like Ben Sheets, but durability has to be taken into account. Not too mention the fact that Javier Vazquez is better when health is not taken into consideration.
  18. Health/Durability is a major reason why Vaz is better. Only once in the last 8 season has Vaz fell short of 200 innings. And in that season he still pitched 198 innings. Ted Lilly has reached the 200 innings pitched plateau once.
  19. TheGrinch is opposed to sliding/diving into first for the same reasons you are, I believe.
