  1. In partial seasons, in an extreme hitter's park. And he didn't hit .260 in any of them and only reached a .340 OBP in one of them. I'm pretty comfortable predicting he won't reach 260/340/440. Maybe 240/320/440 if everything goes right. According to Fangraphs, that would have been good for tied for 10th out of 14 qualified 3b. He's entering his prime years. He's been just shallow of .260 and .340. He was at or above thos elevels each year in the minors. Its reasonable to believe he can get there.
  2. I'd be ecstatic. A .780 OPS would put him 7th in the MLB among qualified 3B last season. If he can put up that line, I'll chip in towards his contract extension to buy out his remaining arb years. He's OPS'ed over .780 in 3 of the last 4 seasons.
  3. I'm ok with this move - I don't care about losing Colvin or DJ and Stewart comes cheap for someone who may be playing every day. He's udner our control for three more years; arb. eligible after 2012. If he can put up a .260 /.340 /.440 type-line I'd be pretty satisfied. If not, does he have any options left? Couldn't we simply non-tender him at the end 2012?
  4. I'm really just grossed-out by the fact that he isn't using a plate.
  5. Am I the only one who would not have been happy had we signed those deals with Burhle, Reyes and Bell?
  6. Wow. That seems like a lot for Buehrle.
  7. If they're as good as Mays's later years that you said didn't look good, they'll be plenty good. His WAR totals for his last four years. 1970 (age 39) - 5.4 1971 (age 40) - 6.4 1972 (age 41) - 2.2 1973 (age 42) - 0.0 I'd take that in exchange for the elite first 6 years at $25 mil per +/-. Putting up a 6.4 WAR as a 40-yr old OF'er is amazing.
  8. Holy _______. If we could trade for Hanley and add Pujols or Fielder.... (Hanley might come a little cheaper coming off a down year)
  9. Sheesh, have to think Soto could have netted Chatwood. Wonder if Thoyer aren't big on trading him.
  10. lol Levine has a higher hit rate than Hoops. Yeah, he was good at getting the lead on Prior's towel-throw count. Name one reporter whose rumors you think are reliable. Bruce Miles. And this is as good a time as any to announce he's going to come by for a chat next week. :good: =D>
  11. I don't think the A's would deal Gonzalez without anyone they could put on the MLB roster, and I also picked them instead of going after someone like Danks/Floyd because I think the A's would value Jackson and Flaherty more than others. Maybe it takes McNutt, that's fine, Gonzalez is probably worth it. The example holds as long as it's not a piece from the MLB roster(especially with the pitching depth in this scenario). I realize he was a 5 WAR pitcher last season and 4 the season before, but does Gio's walk rate bother you at all? Re-post - still looking for feedback...

  15. TT: What was Chatwood's deal last year? He was great in AA ; AAA not so much.
  16. Will Hank be bringing Darva with him?
  17. Levine is a tool and a hack. IIRC, he was responsible for lighting the Dunn fire a few years ago, insisting he would be here within 24 hours. I agree with Theo - he has a long history of throwing stuff against the wall, just like Kurkijan, Stark, and Olney. I miss Hoops.

  19. Very happy with this hire. Preferred him to all other candidates. Now let's get us some Pujols.
  20. I wouldn't give CJ Wilson 5 years; at least not if I am the Cubs.
  21. I like this on several levels: - there are few if any players who are good enough to be untouchable on this team (Garza and Castro are thenonly ones who come close, IMO) - the approach is outside the Hendry box - makes for an interesting offseason
  22. The national perception of Ramirez is based upon the ignorant rants of local media. He's choosing to combat that perception. Yeah, but why give it more traction? Leave it behind in Chicago.
  23. I love Aramis and will miss him quite a bit, but I don't see the upside to what his agent is doing in ripping Brenly. If he had to comment I would simply say, "Aramis' record speaks for itself. He's been as productive as any 3B in the NL over the last 10 years."
  24. This is a really bad idea by the players. From a negotiating standpoint they have backed themselves into a corner. The owners - if they haven't already - will likely begin to take this very personally and will want to ride them into the ground. They have far more resources to litigate this thing, and if the lockout is declared legal by the district court judge then the players will have to spend a s--t ton of money to appeal. If it is declared illegal then the owners will appeal and the players will have to spend money to defend on appeal. Lose-lose. And if the owners win on appeal, watch out. They may decide to maintain the lockout through the entire season just to "teach these guys a lesson".
