  1. Local reports (CBS) have it that the Bears upper level management met on Monday and decided to fire Trestman after the season ends. No decision on Emery yet.
  2. Looks to me like they are acquiring cheap labor for the pen so that they can trade from that surplus to get an OF bat or another SP.
  3. We need help on both lines (DE, arguably DT, C and T) and the back 7. Can we possibly fix all of that in one offseason without trading Cutler?
  4. Darling sent down; Craw will be back this weekend.
  5. Wonder if the Cubs are one of those teams. That would be a nice add, especially if they could find a way to get his slugging up 30-40 points. Then again, we already have Coghlan.
  6. Jeez, Emery is meandering all over the place in that statement. Haig and Reagan?
  7. With understanding that hockey is terrible. Hockey isn't terrible, now the NBA is hot garbage. I find it funny that people that hate hockey find the NBA entertaining. Its like the people who hate an unknown Italian bistro but love Olive Garden. Nope nope nope http://static1.gamespot.com/uploads/scale_super/1057/10579915/2580380-8064419256-23047.jpg
  8. With understanding that hockey is terrible. Hockey isn't terrible, now the NBA is hot garbage. I find it funny that people that hate hockey find the NBA entertaining. Its like the people who hate an unknown Italian bistro but love Olive Garden. This. The NBA has basically become a tennis match between star players (small minority of teams excepted). Half the guys only try half the time.
  9. That would be insane. I would be loopy with excitement and indulge in the bevie preferred by the gent in my avatar.
  10. That trade was all about trying to convince their fan base not to abandon them completely.
  11. I'd love to sign McCarthy so we can have them both at an introductory PC and this might go down:
  12. I just read an article where Heyman asserts that he had a "nice year" last season. http://reactiongif.org/wp-content/uploads/GIF/2014/09/Bothered-Bug-eyed-Bug-eyes-Bugeyes-Incredulity-Incredulous-Irritated-Recoil-Say-what-Surprised-Upset-WTF-GIF.gif
  13. From MLBTR: http://i.imgur.com/d63siGg.gif
  14. Already did this in the Heyward trade thread and don't wish to de-rail this one. We will just have to see whether all of that defense-based production translates year-over-year.
  15. The natural counterpoint is to point to the Samardzija and Heyward trades. 1 year of a 3-4 win player(potentially more in Heyward's case), even one with great talent and still in his prime, does not fetch an enormous return. I realize Heyward is well thought of around here, but I guess I see Upton as more powerful and consistently productive at the plate. That said, perhaps I am wrong on what "the market" (Giants and others) may be offering for him.
  16. I think some of you are a bit unrealistic about what it would take to get J. Upton. He's a 26 yr old corner OF'er who since 2008 has been below .800 in OPS only twice (those were .785 and .799) and coming off a year where he had a 132 OPS+ and 3.9 fWAR. I'm not suggesting he's Stanton or Trout, but he's probably in the tier below.
  17. Does wind turn? If he plays like he did last season we will amend the terminology to suit Riz.
  18. http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20131108023841/vampirediaries/images/6/6c/Scrubs-Fanning-Self-JD.gif
  19. And with off days and a slightly shortened season, I thought I read it was like 8 games. If that's all it is then just leave him in Arizona for a week. I doubt he'd care that much and he can stay warm.
  20. All that stuff Theo said about Castillo and the value of catching was designed to maintain his trade value.
  21. I believe in them. They're not paying $26m or whatever to Lester just to win 82 games next year. Switch flipped. I can't wait to see the follow ups. I want: - another top flight starter added. Pitchers are brittle things. It's good to have a quantity of quality arms. If he's posted, make it Maeda. - an all-star level OF or 3B. I'd prefer someone who hits left handed, but I really just want someone that hits well. - Jaxon traded for Crawford. Make everyone earn that playing time. Maddon is great at balancing that out and shifting people to keep them happy and put into positions to succeed. - Destroy the IFA cap. Might be the last chance to do this right. - Yoan Moncada. Promise him enough to wait until July. I want all the nice things. That's a lot of pretty, shiny objects. Would be an all-time offseason. The Yankees have never even done anything like that.
  22. I think that depends on whether or not they get another big bat. If they acquire a Kemp or CarGo or Upton, I'd leave him in AAA for the few weeks it takes to get the extra year of control. I'd probably be 50-50 on the issue otherwise.
  23. Bruce Levine just said "Whore-Gay Soler". Wishful thinking on his part, if you catch my drift.
  24. I want to see him do it at AA before I get too invested. They said he was the most advanced bat in the draft, you'd expect him to come out raking. You might be right and perhaps I am getting a bit too excited, but its hard to ignore how throughly he dominated each level he played at last season. It was Bryant-like.
