  1. Wow - he's been good on the road, but I can't believe how great he has been at home.
  2. I thinkt hat is right: Z = 07' Prior = 08'
  3. I'd rather wait and sign him as an FA unless we are within 4 or 5 of the WC at the ASB. As I noted in another thread, I am very impressed by his nos. in light of the fact that he is playing at cavernous RFK: AVG .302 | HR 23 | RBI 47 | OBP .366 | SLG .616
  4. We actually have pretty decent pitching depth in our system. Instead of wasting time and watching their values plunge (as we did with Juan Cruz), I say we deal someone for a high-end corner OFer who can put us in a real position to compete.
  5. Why do you think I insist on my son doing everything left-handed? As I tell my wife, you can be pretty bad but still makes lots of coin.
  6. How "this" has not already been bumped out of the lineup is beyond me. I understand they have enough firepower to make up for his deficiencies, but he has been absolutely horrible. I was thinking the same thing.
  7. By doing what Salisbury is advocating, you bump this out of the lineup... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=7489 ...in favor of this: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=2604
  8. I am inclined to agree. That lineup is a lot less potent without Thome and/or Konerko. Plus, their pitching has been poor, and they need all the runs they can get. I'd bench Anderson, play Podsednik in CF and Konerko in LF.
  9. Interesting debate on ESPN 1000: Salisbury is advocating playing Konerko in LF during interleague games in NL parks in order to accomodate Thome at 1B and keeping both bats in the lineup. Piersall essentially said that his 5 year-old grandaughter knows more about baseball than him. Forgetting who the messengers are for a second, I am curious how you guys would handle this issue. Would you rather have their bats and take chance re their gloves, or maintain the integrity of your defense at the expense of your lineup?
  10. What was really great to watch was Griffey's sequence of ABs - he got him swinging with a nasty changeup, and got him to pop up harmlessly later with a similar pitch. To me, this means his stuff is nasty enough where they couldn't completely adjust...or maybe it was just his first ML start?
  11. Gotta love an owner that refers to the team as a "major asset". I don't recall if it was you or someone else who posted the "owner" thread, but you get a little window into their thinking with that comment. It was me, but I thought I'd post it in this one since this thread got a bit more love... :) I gave it "love", largely b/c I grew up listening to my Dad and his buds complain about the faceless ownership and wishing we had the O'Malleys or Yawkeys.
  12. I just wanted to come in here and admit that I have been intrigued by the games I have watched.
  13. Judging by the results, he'd be a great pitcing coach. I was realy disturbed by the post I read some where here that said that the guys tune Rothschild out and that he's a joke to them.
  14. Is Rusch eligible to be sent to AAA?
  15. I never, ever root for the team to lose or the players to fail. That said, when a team stinks, it makes sense to divest yourself of the parts you know will not help you in the future (i.e., Rusch, Perez, etc.) and find out what you have in the kids who are waiting to play.
  16. Gotta love an owner that refers to the team as a "major asset". I don't recall if it was you or someone else who posted the "owner" thread, but you get a little window into their thinking with that comment.
  17. Womack has been pretty good - I'd right the lightning until it starts to disapate. I'd also start him in CF, w/ Walker at 2B and Nevin at 1B, but that's just me. Moreover, I also wonder what JH thinks about the fact that Nevin is picking splinters out of his butt.
  18. Closure is a sadly appropriate word. Will they now schedule Kerry Wood day for Sept.? Celebrate his 20 K game and performance in the 03' playoffs, both of which ultimately contributed to his demise?
  19. And the truth should set you free! it amazes me that dusty sees how damaging walks are for his pitchers, but can't grasp that his batters drawing walks would help immensely. That's an amazingly freakin' good point, man.
  20. He wasn't made a full-time starter by the Brewers. He's been a starter the vast majority of his career. The Brewers and the Cubs are actually the only teams that have tried him out of the pen (the Brewers did it because they figured out he sucked). The problem is he also sucks out of the bullpen. There is no ideal role for Glendon Rusch. And I don't see how you can possibly justify the claim that the Cubs have been trying to keep him as a starter. They've used him out of the pen more than anybody before. That's not true: he'd be a great addition to the retired players list.
  21. Correction, YOU hate their guts. I'd trade with them in a heartbeat if it was a good trade. A good trade is a good trade is a good trade reguardless of who its with. (The exception to this rule being certain interdivision trades) And if the deal turns out to be a Garland for Karchner deal, with the Cubs getting the short end of the stick, do you want to deal w/ moronic Sox fans shoving it down your throat?? Frankly, I wouldn't care. I don't care about the White Sox. I never have. I don't root for them, I don't root against them. Why should I hate them? They are in the American League, not the National League. I'll save my enmity for teams that matter to the Cubs, and their chances of making a playoff game. Oh, and that enmity extends to people, as well. Jim Hendry, for example. To be fair, its a little tougher when you actually live here in Chicago, but that said, I generally agree with what you wrote.
  22. You'd think someone who works that hard would be better than what he actually is. I played varsity hoops in high school. I worked as hard as anyone in practice and in the offseason to get better. Alas, I wasn't all that talented.
  23. Marmol also has a pretty good change that he hasn't used because he's been pitching in relief. He's got a plus fastball and a plus curveball. And if he pitches as well as Marshall I think most of us will be thrilled. Marshall has been wonderful this year. Agreed. If Dusty insists on naming a savior, he should start with Marshall.
