  1. Local update on ESPN 1000 just concluded without mention of The Marquis de Pitching.
  2. Nothing on ESPN1000's website either. Anyone dial 1-800-Modzilla yet?
  3. I know it. I'm just lamenting the fact that we're now "down to Marquis." Bleck. I'm w/ you there.
  4. I just looked him up. He's not that bad. He's had one really bad year, but I am not certain that makes him a horrendous option for the back end of the rotation.
  5. Seriously, if Colleti doesn't want to play any of those guys we need to jump all over it.
  6. Ok, assuming we do my proposed deal, who plays C everyday? I dunno that Hank can handle it. Bring up Soto and platoon?
  7. If Bonds only plays 81 games i am not sure this would be as wonderful as some people might think. When LaRussa said "I want to talk to your guy", maybe he just is having some artthritis issues and wants to ask how to get in touch Greg Anderson?
  8. I'd take Peavy too. Pie and Marmol for Peavy? Are you thinking that Towers has had a brain tumor and cannot think straight anymore? Why is Peavy talked about as available at all? If they think he is who he was in 2004 and 2005, it makes no sense. Yet his name has been in play for several months now. Well, his name has been out there for some deals netting a major bat. But I don't think he's available for minor leaguers. If we were offering Lee or Aramis, that would probably get the job done. hmm... Who is their catcher? :D Barrett, Pie, and one of the afor mentioned young arms? Too high a price?
  9. Wow, I'd think he be out of play as far as offseason dealings are concerned. Does Hughes take command? The article says he's already working the phones, so I guess not. Yeah, but an angioplasty? He can't be 100%. Working the phones could mean anything. I'd hope for his sake (and partially for our sake) that Jim backs off a little here. That's some serious stuff. Let somebody else handle negotiations and have them consult with you for direction. My Dad had the procedure done two summers ago and recovered fairly quickly. He also talked about how he could breath far easier and just generally felt better. Its rather routine nowadays, I guess.
  10. I'd take Peavy too. Pie and Marmol for Peavy? Are you thinking that Towers has had a brain tumor and cannot think straight anymore? Isn't Peavy one of the injury risks we keep talking about, or am I confuisng him with someone else? If so, what about Pie, Prior, and one of Marmol/Marshall/Mateo/Guzman/Ryu?
  11. I'd take Peavy too. Pie and Marmol for Peavy?
  12. Please trade for Westbrook, Jim. Please trade for Jennings too.
  13. I dunno that Lofton really would qualify in that context, but Floyd might. Besides Dunn, Lofton, and Floyd, what other lefthanders with pop am I missing?
  14. Pie, Veal, and Marshall? Sign me up.
  15. Dude, you got a cite for this stuff?
  16. Agreed - they both stink but Meche (reportedly) has better stuff and will cost less.
  17. I'll take players who I don't want for 500, Alex.
  18. And you never will. No one will, probably not even Bruce. And this goes to my initia point: blaming Hendry is ridiculous. You can blame him for several things, but this is not one of them.
  19. I'll agree that "not being a finalist" does not equate to Hendry not trying. However, it should also be noted that Schmidt signing with the Dodgers does not equate Schmidt having no interest in Chicago. We don't know either way, and probably never will. Where did I argue he had no interest? My argument is only that, based on the contract he is signing, no amount of money could convince him - he likely considered it and decided he'd rather stay closer to home. You said, "The man simply did not want to come to Chicago". That may be true, but we don't know that. Just like people pissed off at Hendry don't "know" that he didn't pursue Schmidt heavily. I'm seeing a lot of both, but nobody here knows for sure. Right, his ultimate decision was something like this: "Hm, Chicago is offering the most money, but I really would rather be closer to home and take a bit less." In other words, he had interest in joining the Cubs but chose not to do so. So, I again ask you: How is this equivalent to him having "no interest" in joining the Cubs?
