  1. Not to de-rail the thread, but Zito would look pretty good pitching half his games at Chavez Ravine, but they already have Schmidt.
  2. Here here. He came up when I was in my early teens and reinvigerated my love of the game. I still love his sweet swing and his incredible play in CF. And I agree with Pedro - if he isn't an HOFer, I don't know who is.
  3. I'd add that several of them took "hometown discounts". Hard to praise GMs for working in the right local at the right time.
  4. Dude, honestly, change your sig.
  5. I think it's because he's so anxious to get rid of Jones entirely. Every report has them looking to unload Jones, pick-up a stopgap CF (?), and platoon Floyd/Murton in LF with Soriano in RF. If the stopgap in CF is Jones, that might not be that bad.
  6. I guess i don't have a huge problem with this signing. I like Murt and think he could get better. But I never have an issue with increased depth and the potential for good bench production. Our bench has been horrendous in recent years. Moreover, I for one am not convinced that Murt is everyday corner OFer. Just my two cents.
  7. That's a bit short-sited. Floyd was hurt last year, and was a consistent .290 / .355 / .490 - .500 guy before that.
  8. What does that even mean? They are a football team that has been in cruise control because of how thoroughly they dominated the conference this year. They haven't played at their peak in every game, but they've won 3 straight, and only 2 teams have won more consecutive games. They have the largest PF-PA differential in the league. They've beaten playoff contenders at home and on the road, have come from behind, blown teams out and everything in between. What are they? They are clearly the best team in the NFC, that's what they are. Most important point of your post. They find ways to win even when they aren't clicking on all cylinders. Good teams don't have to be playing their best to win every game.
  9. Me either. I would, however, be comfortable with: Z Hill Schmidt Guzman/Marshall/Marmol Prior/Miller
  10. Are you talking about Moises Alou? If you are he landed in New York with Mets. But I did hear, the Giants are interesting in signing Felipe to be the starting 3rd baseman, tho. They are also going to ink Jesus and Matty; "getting the band back together." http://painteroflegends.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/alou.jpg
  11. And adding to my own post, there is some question in my mind whether IL law has any application to this issue due to the CBA and the fact that the CBA was entered into between relatively peculiar organizations (the Union and the League) that are subject to fed. law, specifically, the National Labor Relations Act.
  12. The Bears cannot suspend him, IIRC. The NFL CBA vests the league itself with the right to assess fines and suspensions for this type of issue. This issue was resolved via the Owens and Keyshawn issues of recent years, where TB and Philly tried to get around the rule by placing players on the "inactive list" rather than suspending them or showing them the door. EDIT: BTW, it is illegal in the State of Illnois for an employer to base an adverse employment action on anything short of a criminal conviction. In other words, employers may not take adverse action against employees based on charges, warrants, allegations, etc.
  13. Hard to pin hopes on luck. Not killing the messenger, Truff, just saying. More disturbing by far is Tree's sig. Please, Mommy, make the bad man stop!
  14. Good points and discussion so far here. Stats to me are a bit like humanity itself - always evolving. They reveal more than the naked eye can, but they have yet to discover all of the nuances that are factors in the game. I suspect that some day someone will figure out a way to measure things like distracted picthers and what happens when a pitcher throws from the stretch, but it may not happen at all. That's what makes sports great, IMO - there is plenty of room for debate and nuance.
  15. Sheesh. The only thing worse than that Thurs. matchup is the guy who will be doing the play-by-play.
  16. What a freaking joke. The saturation of analysis has created some absolutely moronic opinions.
  17. This story is older than you are, no? Just barely, I think.
  18. People conveniently forget that most championship teams play close games and get lucky against bad teams along the way. Exhibit A may surprise you: the 85' Bears. Here are their results: The Bears were fortunate to pull out wins in each of the following: - Vikings (7-9) in Week 3 (getting their butts handed to em' on Mon. night until McMahon went crazy in the second half) - Green Bay (8-8) in Week 9 (lead by the legendary Lynn Dickey, Eddie Lee "Ebony and" Ivery, and the ageless James Lofton) - Indy (5-11) in Week 14 (Mike Pagel and TE Pat Beach were the stars. beach was freakin awesome in tecmo Bowl, not quite as good in real life.) Point is that when you over-analyze each and every game and performance...well you are guilty of over-analysis.
  19. As would I, but if last year wasn't a fluke for DeRosa then he will be very similar to Giles if my memory serves me correctly. The problem is, you know what you're getting from Giles, but I'm not positive DeRosa will repeat (though I'm fairly confident). I'm fairly confident we'll see a .750ish OPS from Derosa, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if that's not the case. You're prob right, but I would be very happy with .280 / .345 / .455.
  20. So why would Lovie go out of his way to state the Tank is still a member of the Bears yesterday? Not surprised in the least. I give Angelo credit for hurting the team's chances in the name of integrity.
  21. Think Larry Johnson, IMO. He langusihed behind Holmes for what, three years?
  22. How about win a playoff game? The Saints haven't done that recently, and were being touted as the best in the NFC last week. I don't think "recently" adequately describes that franchises horrendous p-off history. BTW, three weeks ago the Cowboys were as good or better than the Bears. Last week it was the Saints. Now its the Eagles. What does this tell you? NFC teams with far worse records than the Bears who are eligible for the title next week?: Falcons? Packers? Skins?
