  1. I agree, but I don't think having Uek sing the stretch is same thing as say having Mike Krukow sing the stretch. Uek transcends the booth and is a beloved personality well beyond it, particulalry to people who grew up during the 80's and feel that Major League is one of the three greatest sports movies ever made (like me).
  2. I am surprised too. Why are we bowing down to Uecker? I blame the Cubs for asking him. This is a tribute to Harry and cub fans and if someone doesn't want to say Cubbies, don't allow them. However, this is a Comcast set up deal. Who's "bowing down" to Ueker?
  3. I love Uek and was disappointed that he got booed last night. One thing that distinguishes most Cubs fans from people in St Louis, NY, and Boston is that we are friendly and welcoming when opposition fans visit Wrigley. Its something my Dad taught me when I was 4 and he started taking me to games; season tix 6 rows behind the visiting on-deck circle. Some of our best convos and most enjoyable games were with Philly fans, Cards fans, etc. I hope that attitude isn't changing.
  4. Yost is playing tight like the rest of his team. Its tough to think straight when your team is collapsing around you. His bullpen management left me scratching my head last night. Good post BTW, CCP.
  5. Geez guys its 1-0 in the 3rd. Take it easy.
  6. Agreed. Also, isn't 08' the last year of Demp's contract? If so, this offseason would be prime-time to move him.
  7. Saber fight! http://www.newwavefilms.com/pictures/fight.jpg
  8. Good to see you around again. I agree to some extent, but I think Hendry has to win a playoff series to insulate himself from the inevitable ax.
  9. If we ever win one it will be far more clear who America's team is. I any case, thanks for the props, Bobby.
  10. I actually emailed the reporter and told him I thought Myers was a childish idiot, but that he should have known better than to take the bait. The guy wrote back to me and said that it was hard in light what Myers said to him, but that I was correct insomuch as he should have known better and kept his composure.
  11. If they don't make the playoffs he is gone. He might be gone if they make it but lose in the 1st rnd.
  12. Horrendous call by Lou today. No doubt. He's still a good manager. And this is an amazing overreation to Monroe starting.
  13. How on earth do you have both Lt and Johnson? Don't dare trade him; you;ve already won the league.
  14. Do you have an opinion as to what has caused the apparent shift in organizational philosophy? I have postulated in the past that MacPhail loved Baker and his approach (which more or less was ignorant of the value of most statistics) and thus did not allow Hendry to point the team in that direction. Is there any validity to that notion?
  15. no he did no start it, but he did finish it
  16. I don't think anyone is mocking scouting here. I agree with you - its better to have a balance. We need stats and scouts, and I think Hughes used a combo of these things to evaluate the Kendall deal: - Check his health and bat speed (scouts) - Look at his production levels and anlalyze trends and possible anamolies(stats) - Combine both pieces of info and analyze
  17. I agree whole-heartedly. That sort of attack-dog stuff is unprofessional. The reporter should be ashamed of himself. He needs to remember to be a professional and not take bait from immature athletes who are paid to be ultra-competitive beyond reason. The reporter is as much blame as Myers himself.
  18. My bust - there he is. BALK!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Cotts or Ohman - who cares? The classic garbage-in, garbage-out deal, except that the garbage we received has potential to at least be helpful.
  20. Also, I think this comment from Bruce may have gotten lost in the shuffle that night:
  21. Here is the link to the trade thread: viewtopic.php?t=42413 The search function is disabled-as soon as the board switches over to the new version, it will be back. I love irony, so I love this comment: Barrett's line with SD: .231 / .238 / .288, 41 OPS-plus Perhaps Jim knew something we did not. Just speculating.
