  1. At the risk of being redundant, this is great news.
  2. This may not make me very popular around here, but doesn't he make some sense for the OF? He had a .900 OPS last season (could he have already peaked? I dunno.) and his defense is very good. He'll likely command less than Jones and certainly less than Hunter. You can move Soriano to RF and let him play LF. Just throwing it out there.
  3. Scary , scary stuff. He has a one-year-old son. Just terrible.
  4. Why? Henry can throw out more guys and maybe not hit for contact as much but certainly hit for more power. I don't think Kendall would have accepted a backup role, either. Having Henry (who is a prototypical backup catcher) is a great thing for Geovany Soto. Lou won't be as tempted to used Blanco if Geo goes into a slump, Henry won't be bitter about riding the bench, and will be a good mentor. keep in mind, Blancos making 2.8 mil in '08, making him untradeable, but not enough of a liability to warrant eating that much money by DFAing him. Soto earned the job, making Kendall obsolete. I don't agree that Henry is untradeable. In this mkt 2.8 mill for a vet catcher with a good arm is not a non-starter.
  5. I just do not understand what Hendry is trying to accomplish here. Maybe he has something bigger in the works for the GM meetings next week that would require him to trade MIFers like Theriot? Otherwise this makes no sense.
  6. WTF? They already have LoDuca, no? Or is he a FA?
  7. I'd much rather have Castillo, but I still don't unerstand why we need either of them. Who besides Rosenthal has reported our interest in these guys?
  8. I think it will fascinating to watch how the feds set up their case. I have to think Anderson got tired of sitting in jail off and on for more than a year and will testify, but I know much of the press disagrees.
  9. I know you guys are having some (dead horse beating) fun with this, but prosecuting people who lie under oath is as important as anything federal prosecutors do. You can't let these people go without calling them on their behavior, especially the most high-profile ones. I am not sure why, but some of you seem to not understand this.
  10. I guess the difference between him an the avg 38-yr old P is that he doesn't have a starter's mileage on his arm? (asking, not telling)
  11. The more I look at the numbers, the more Hill for Crawford straight-up seems like a fair deal. Hill would be the best pitcher on that team not named Kazmir, no? He'll be 28 (IIRC) this year, has been healthy through out his career and has a very good K/BB ratio. I don't think I 'd give up more than Hill to get Carl. Please listen, Jim. Don't make this Pierre Part II.
  12. I don't think Ryan is that bad, but I also don't think he should be closing. More than anything, I want my closer to not walk people. Thus I think Howry might be the best option.
  13. I'm "meh" on the return (what did we expect to get for Jones?), but I like what it implies about possible future moves.
  14. What trade value does Ronny even have at this point? hendry would have been wise to deal him when his value was highest. He held on too long again.
  15. I'd rather have Big Sex and put him in RF. Go out and get someone to lead off, plus Soriano into the 4 hole, Richie in the 6 hole and call it a day.
  16. Who will it be? Stark of ESPN says the possibilities include: Tejada Cabrera Rolen Tejada is not likely, says Stark, b/c the Yanks and O's reside in the same division and have not made a trade together in more than 30 years.
  17. His value will never be higher (decent production and one year left one deal) - trade him now.
  18. I know GM's are always going to put a positive spin on their decisions, including stupid ones like putting Dempster into the rotation. But to cite that he won 15 games when it happened 7 years ago (a year in which his ERA was around 5, as well)? Come on, Jim. How naive do you think fans are? See Rasin's post above. It's hard for me to critical of most public commentary these days. It's all spin. Crticize the decision on the other hand? Absolutely.
  19. Color me confused: how does this make us a better team?
  20. I don't think Crawford alone solves this team's issues. Crawford plus Dunn or ARod, yes.
  21. The thing that freaks me out about Milton is the knee. I don't mind his histrionics. He overreacted last season, but he was right to be peed-off.
  22. I agree. I also agree with Cuse's point that people are motivated in different ways. That said, I don't recall Skiles calling Hinrich out in the press before this year, and he has had some really crappy games. Duhon has been awful at times also. I don't think its useful to air people out publicly no matter what they are motivated by.
  23. That would be a nice change. He usually rides Gordon like a mule and gives Hinrich a pass.
  24. Josh Gibson is probably the greatest catcher of all time. Very difficult to decide this one.
