  1. I was scratching my head over this when he came in in the ninth yesterday, but I think the teeth-grinding is a bit over the top. Our entire bullpen was overused in the month of April because approx. 3/5 of our rotation stunk. If that levels-off it will (hopefully) ultimately cut into Marmol's workload. If he pit ches again today I'll be unhappy with the decision, but I get that Lou is thinking that he won't be needed b/c Z is on the mound.
  2. I am not that upset about this , unless we lost out b/c Pax didn't have the *you-know-whats* to pull the trigger. Pax has shown consistently over the last several years that his preference for a conservative approach extends to trading his young players. On the other hand, he gives millions in extensions to the least talanted players in that core (Noc and Hinrich). Brilliant.
  3. Go get em', Angel. We'd love to have you back up here for the stretch.
  4. If Lily is in the upper 80's with control, he should be alright. Now let's get Hill back up here and win 90-plus games.
  5. That's pretty poor reasoning. really? why? they've lost every tinkered-with game. if i remember correctly, they shuffled the rotation to allow marquis (and not hill) to start against the brewers. they lost. hill was then nine days removed from his last start when he threw against the cardinals. they lost that game. and lieber, who took hill's spot in the rotation, got battered today. they lost. you really don't see how this rotation shuffle hurt the cubs? I don't think it's the reason they're 3-6. and i didn't say it was the reason. But your argument certainly implied it.
  6. well at least church is doing well Very true. He is one I always wanted to see here. Hopefully the Mets don't know what they have.
  7. Paxson needs to get over himself. IMO, if he passes up the chance to get D'Antoni b/c he's not Skiles-esque in terms of discipline, he is the worst GM in town. That said, why even interview the guy if you are worried about those issues? Even a casual NBA fan could tell you that D'Antoni is pretty much the polar opposite of Skiles (which is why I want him). As for the Knicks job, D'Antoni would have to be crazy to go there if the Bulls offer him the job. The Knicks will be in salary cap hell for at least another two years.
  8. You really have a one-track mind on this stuff. Different situations require different tools and provide for different results. He might have been wrong or lying about Cedeno, but this is a different situation. It's a situation in which Piniella is asked to identify which baseball players should get playing time in order to advance the team's goal of winning. He's not showing a real good track record in these situations. Ok, so you don't think he is good at his job. Doesn't make him a liar.
  9. He was one of my faves as a kid b/c of his unusual batting stance, with his bat head pointing directly at the pitcher.
  10. Wow. NSBB love-children the world-over are getting released. First Wilkerson and now Michaels. What is the world coming to?
  11. Did you just compare Rich Hill with CC Sabathia?
  12. I don't really have a problem sending Rich down at this point. He reminds me of what happens when I overthink my golf swing. I'd rather see Gallagher in the rotation though.
  13. Straight from the NFL.com scouting report. He did get a running start on that hit Sully posted the link to. I think the scouting report is refering to his ability to shoot the gap and shed blockers when they put him up in the box. He can get stronger and work on that aspect. You can't teach instincts, which he already has.
  14. Jerry's not counting on Browny anymore.
  15. That's a pretty solid trade. Scheuning and Booty in the 4th and 1st 5th rounder? Fine with Sceuning, but my first choice is Josh Johnson. I'd be fine with Booty as a back up plan.
  16. Yay i bet we get some solid value with our what six 7th round picks They are in need of depth all over the place and the 7th rnd is a good place to pick up cheap backups who can excel on special teams.
  17. Bears switched with TB in the 4th and got TB's late-5th rnder.
  18. Cheap depth. and that gives them 4 7th rounders? Correct. Maybe more now that they dealt the 4th rnder to TB, but i would guess they simply switched spots with them and got a 5th rnder next season.
  19. Bears trade down again, this time to TB's spot. I love what Angelo is doing. He is definitely going QB next - he see's the teams behind him and knows they won't take one.
  20. Cheap depth.
  21. i don't like john david booty. besides the fact that he has a slow release and virtually no ability to avoid a rush, his name sounds like he should be in jail or something. i'd take brennan or woodson. I could live with Woodson based on upside (even though he throws off his back foot all the time), but I think Brennan was a product of the system he played in rather than his own skills. I agree that Booty is no threat to run, but he has pocket presence and can in fact move his feet. Plus he is accurate, something the Bears really need. All of that said, I'd rather have the Johnson kid from SD.
  22. Wow - ESPN brings in a cute physical therapist to evaluate Dixon's injury. Nice touch.
