  1. NICE GEO!!! Holy crud if he and Milt start hitting....
  2. Please stop. Just stop. I don't like canning Perry, but Joshua was a good influence on Frank Thomas, who basically was a stathead's hitting-dream-come-true. Soriano could be about 60-70% of Thomas if he would listen Joshua.
  3. I certainly hope this is true. They are wasting some very good pitching. Short of a trade, I'd place Soriano at 2B, bring Fox back (release Miles) and platoon him in LF with Hoff. Start Fontenot at 3B until Ramirez gets back and in the mean time try and convince the Nats they don't need Dunn. I'd also release Patton back to whomever we drafted him from via Rule 5 and bring Scales back. This plan really isn't that far fetched.
  4. I posted this in the "Aramis replacement" thread: (The links to their 2009 stats didn't make it in after I copied and pasted from the other thread)
  5. I guarantee Kevin Orie, Vance Law, Steve Buechele, Luis Salazar, Curt Wilkerson, Todd Zeile, Steve Ontiveros and several other former 3B luminaries have availability. I wouldn't mess with the 3B situation. Aramis will be back in a month or so. Again, I would plug that hole with Fontenot and concentrate on finding a 2B. Felipe Lopez has been doing ok this year and most definitely could be had on the cheap: Lopez Of course there is also the oft-mentioned Freddy Sanchez, who would unquestionably be more expensive to acquire: Sanchez Given his rough start, I should think we could get Dan Uggla for relatively little, and Hendry has a good history with the Fish: Uggla Of course, DeRosa remains a good option as well.
  6. I see that its a tough call for Hendry here b/c of some the defensive difficulties we have had, but I'd rather take my chances with Fox than Scales. And I'd rather have Scales than Miles.
  7. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_2cyKC8lumRQ/R_zKoBA9vwI/AAAAAAAAAT0/qpS7Tq7r2dY/s400/050217_dusty_baker_hmed_h2.jpg
  8. BA with RISP is an overrated stat, IMO.
  9. Kouzmanoff is better than the type of guys I'm talking about. Then please, say who you're talking about. Who should they get to fill this one month void until Ramirez is back? I'm not a GM. I have no idea who is available. I'm talking simly aout a backup 3B. Something that we should have had in the organization before the season started in the first place. Koskie would have been fine. If Freel can somehow get hot and give us like .285/.350/.360, even that would be fine. I'm simpl talking about a guy who can play the piosition and not be a complete black hole in the lineup like Blanco is So you are assailing Hendry for not getting someone to fill the hole left by Ramirez's injury and arguing that we have the prospects to acquire someone, but you have "no idea who is available". Your arguments are standing on some pretty unstable ground.
  10. I'm no Mort fan, and these early summer practices don't really tell you much, but this is what I'm expecting out of the receivers. I've had my differences with Angelo's decisions, but he's absolutely right when he talks about it starting with the QB. Everybody loves Brandon Marshall, but he was a 4th rounder. You think Brandon Marshall would be Brandon Marshall if he was drafted in the 4th round by the Bears in 2006? I sure don't. Do you think Eddie Royal comes close to the rookie season he had if he's playing for the Bears last year? A QB absolutely can make a WR. I agree, and far more often than a WR can make a QB. I can only think of one obvious example of that... Moss and Culpepper. That was a little different situation as Culpepper had Moss and Cris Carter. One of us could probably look better than bad with those two catching passes. Definitely the exception rather than the rule. Here's a couple of Bears examples: - Marcus Robinson made Cade McNown look ok for a half-dozen games b/c he could jump up and grab anything, but eventually...well you know what happened. - Erik Kramer made Jeff Graham look like Carter in a Bears uni. for one season. Then Kramer got hurt (concussion, IIRC) and Mr. Graham faded back into mediocrity.
  11. That sounds like a deal Hendry might make. Let Wood go and get his big contract, then trade for him at a larger salary than what he would have taken to stay with the Cubs in the first place. I'll gladly trade the three guys we got for DeRow back to Cleveland for Wood. Oh, Kosuke is awesome.
  12. Hendry shopping list: 1) a MIF'er or LF'er (if Fonzy goes to 2B) 2) Relievers. Lots of them.
  13. Kevin Gregg might be the worst acquisition of the offseason, particularly when you consider that we have up Ceda to get him. He seems to groove fastballs at least three times per appearance. Poor, poor Wells.
  14. I wonder if they will extend Toews and/or Kane this offseason. I bet Toews gets his first.
  15. I hope he means its time to release Cotts. He and Patton are flat-out awful.
  16. when has hendry severely overpaid in a trade? i've got one in like 6 years of him being a GM, juan pierre. in trades for good major league players, hendry has actually not paid all that much (nomar, lee, ramirez, harden). I wonder if Hoff is going to be part of this along with all the usual suspects. Oh, Hendry also overpaid for Kevin "[expletive]" Gregg.
  17. I'd bet you could get Minaya to take Soriano. Fonzy strikes me as the kind of high-profile pick-up Minaya craves. Their OF production isn't all that great beyond Beltran and the ancient Sheff, who I believe is not playing every day. Plus they need a starter. Here's a blockbuster for you: Mets receive: Harden and Soriano Cubs receive: Fernando Martinez (OF), Wilmer Flores (SS) and Jenrry Mejia (RHP) You can platoon Hoff and Fox in LF until Martinez is ready. I bet they could combine for as much as production as Fonzy has so far this season. No need to rush Martinez or start his "arby clock".
  18. Okay, your next assignment is to find that guy. The thing is, Peavy is available, and all reports indicate he'd prefer the Cubs over anybody. Utley and Kinsler aren't exactly available. I shall take the assignment. Rake may not be the right word, but Ray Durham has posted an .800+ OPS in two of the past 3 seasons. In 2006 he was two points off from a .900 OPS. And he's a free agent. Or how about Senor Lopez: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?n1=lopezfe01&year=2009&t=b He's done most pf his damage at home, but he's still an improvement over Fontenot and/or Miles.
  19. I think we should looking to get a second baseman and fill-in for Aramis with what we have.
  20. I'd much rather go and get a second baseman who can rake over getting Peavy at this point.
  21. They add Eric Gordon and I am done with them. Why? He's basically Ben from 4 years ago: Gordon's rookie stat line Don't get me wrong - I'd prefer to replace Ben Gordon with Chris Bosh and start Salmons at SG, but I don't know how realistic that is.
  22. This is interesting: http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/59285/20090520/forman_to_be_named_chicagos_gm/ Also, RealGM says Clips may be looking to offer us Randolph, Kaman or Camby for Hinrich. Think we could also have Eric Gordon to replace the other Gordon?
  23. Lee for Greinke! \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ Maybe if we throw in Heilman the'll throw in Teahen or Jacobs. Yeah, I get that its not likely. Just an idea - Lee for a prospect or two and then spin those guys off to get some help a 3B or at 2B. In fact, if you get a 2B, Fontenot can play 3B until ARam gets back and then can play supplant Miles as the utility guy off the bench. Not ideal, but not so bad either.
  24. What's the name of the Hawks goal song? The Fritellis - Chelsea's Dagger I ripped that so loud on all 4 goals. Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger Sorry, I really like that band. Check out "Flathead" also - their first LP.
