    Baker' blind loyalty to "proven veterans" is staggering; Murton may or may not be the answer. But Hollandsworth lifetime 3-28 vs. Tomko is pretty good indicator as to what is not the answer in LF today. Why not try Murton or even Gerut in LF (who, by the way, has had some success vs. Tomko)?

    Against a RH starter there's no possibility of Murton getting a start. The only way someone besides Hollandsworth starts against a RH starter is if Hendry trades for a proven veteran LF. Whats the over-under on how many men Hollandsworth leaves on base today? I'm say 8. Hollandsworth career against Tomko.... 3 for 23. That's pretty amazing. "Hey man, never tell me the odds..."

    I'm not completely sold on Garland one magical season doesn't necessarily make him a good pitcher. However, it'll get him a bloated contract from the Yankees.

With Murton in LF batting 2nd it would give the Cubs this lineup Walker Murton- good place for a singles hitter that draws walks Lee Burnitz Ramirez Kearns SS- be it Nomar, Cedeno or Perez (in that order) Barrett Not too shabby That still would mean that Dusty was starting Murton, which he has shown he doesnt want to do. Unless for some reason Hollandsworth is magically traded, do you really there is a chance Murton gets the majority of the starts versus RH pitching? I don't know what games Baker has been watching lately but, Hollandsworth' lack of production has been a killer. Many of his recent at bats have been with runners on and he's failed in nearly every one of them. I dare say his lack of production was difference between the last five games being close and not so close. Hollandsworth' value is as a pinch hitter and spot starter. Unfortunately, Baker can't get this through his thick skull and we'll continue to see Hollandsworth leave men on base vs. RHP - Unless of course, Hendry trades for a "proven veteran" LF'er.

    Same old story - struggling pitcher wiggles out of an early jam then miracously finds his stuff an mows down the Cubs. I, for one, am very tried of this re-run.

    I agree with your outlook. Expecting anything out of Garciapparra is very foolish on Hendry' part, I don't believe he'll be even remotely effective. I've never had an injury such as Garciapparra' but, given how integral the groin is to all movement. How in the world is surgery and only 3 months of rehabilitation going to heal him to effectiveness? Garciapparra doing anything for 2005 Cubs - another Hendry pipedream.

    Alls well that ends well but, the Dempster walk to Seabol was inexcusable! Everyone and their brother knew once Seabol had two strikes he wasn't going to swing the bat again. Why try to hitting the black with a slider? Just throw it down the middle let Seabol hit it as hard as he could, what was he going to do? Beat you with a two HR with no one on?

    Today's game, a national telecast, has all earmarks of one in which the Cubs play well for 7-8 innings. Yet lose by a run as overuns 2b, gets caught in a run-down and takes the Cubs out of a scoring possiblity.

    Yet another glaring example of the gap between the Cubs and Cardinals in fundamental baseball. The Cubs are by far the fundamentally weakest team in baseball, the reason why starts at the top - Dusty. The Cubs lack of sound play is direct reflection of their manager, playing sound baseball is not a talent, its an approach, disciplne, M.O.

    Reasons for my take on what Baker would do with the Cardinals or White Sox: 1. The little things - hitting behind the runners, making contact in contact situations, base running - the Cubs inability to consistently do things well is not for lack of talent, it's Baker' inability to get them playing solid baseball. 2. Lineup roulette - Need I say more? 3. The bullpen - how many times have we seen him misuse Remlinger, overuse/end Wuertz/Fox? Statistics? Baker reminds me of Han Solo, when he told C3PO, after informed of the odds of successfully navigating an asteroid field - "Never tell me the odds..." (or something to that extent - Empire Strikes Back)

    What if Baker had the Cardinals or White Sox? Would he have them in their current positions? Despite my strong dislike for Guilllen and LaRussa I respect them and what they've done. As for my answer - I believe Baker would have the Cardinals or White Sox in the same state the Cubs are currently in...

    The biggest difference between the Cubs and Cards is not talent, it execution. They make all the routine plays, their pitchers throw strikes and unless forced to, their manager doesn't play lineup roulette.

    We knew the Reds were going to score some runs today but, what really burns me is the Cubs being shutout for 5 innings by the crap the Reds keep trotting out there.

    Dunn, Griffey and even Kearns hitting HR's is one thing but, when someone like Aurilia hits HR's its very frustrating. Aurilia at the tail end of his career and effectiveness has what? At least two HR's and 5+ RBI's this series? What a joke!

    Not to mention Lefties that have OWNED him. Rusch seemed like the obvious choice in that situation to me. It doesn't matter how many arms are available to Dusty, he has his "boyz", stats be damned. Seven relievers gives him seven more possibities to mis-manage the pen. I would have gone with Mitre last night. On such a warm night he might have got that sinker going and would have kept the Cubs in the game.

    Its a sad commentary on someone who has resort to starting rumors on the Web for what? Entertainment? Jollies? I've never really understood this troll mentality or thing to begin with, why? I just don't get it.

    I look upon anything Wood can give the Cubs as an unexpected bonus - like finding $20 in your pants pocket before you put them in the wash. If some season he makes 25+ plus starts, great. If not, that's OK, wasn't expecting much to begin with.

    I'm actually the source. Just ask me anything. How many Dunn heads could you fit in a Kearns head? That question cannot properly be answered. The problem being that scientists have yet to actually find a number large enough to scope the sheer hugeness of Austin Kearns' head. If Kearns was much taller would he be able to eclipse the Sun with his head? Not only that, but the sheer amount of weight of his head that far off of earth would throw it off its axis. As a result he actually can never ride on a plane. If such an event were to occur, Kevin Mench would be injected with steroids and then launched into the air in the opposite direction to hopefully save the planet. Why Kevin Mench? Why not Carlos Lee sans the steroids? He's plan B. And incase you never noticed, Mench has a HUGE head. Thanks Your plan is supreme. With Kearns putting out the Sun, all games at Wrigley Field would become night games.
