  1. Even if he doesn't come out swinging all that well, at the very least this brings some level of normalcy back to the lineup. We can stop platooning guys in LF and let them get back to their more natural positions. I hope that hamstring is fully healed too. I can't even remember the last time the Cubs stole a base. (That might be the alcohol playing with my memory though)
  2. Agreed. I turned to my brother when Lee came up in the 9th and said, "Here comes the human double play." I hate it when I'm right.
  3. That's the first thing that came to my mind too. There's something fishy about this. When you're place gets raided, they tend to find everything. (They even check under the tv)
  4. I just hate that all these groups contain people from the financial industry. Meaning the odds are likely that they will run the team strictly for profit and not necessarily to win. (Purely speculation on my part, so don't jump down my throat for it) Madison Dearborn recently purchased my company. And trust me, after seeing many of the moves they've made so far, they are strictly in it for profit.
  5. I've heard Friday, but I don't know if its confirmed. Either Friday or Saturday. Harden was scheduled to pitch Friday for Oakland, but Piniella seemed to be leaning toward Saturday. Said he's going to wait until Harden arrives to make that decision. I have a feeling it'll be Saturday though. I only say that because my sister is getting married that day, and there's no way I'll be able to watch the game. :(
  6. I've wanted Harden more than Sabathia from the start for a few reasons. The first is that it would've probably taken way more to get Sabathia away from Cleveland. And the second is that Sabathia is essentially a rental this year (unless the Cubs would've been willing to throw a MONSTER deal his way after this year.) Harden is a Cub until at least the end of 2009. Solid move.
  7. Was on the Red Line home and my phone just blew up with texts. This is huge. I've wanted Harden all along. Getting Gaudin is a nice addition too. Seeing Gallagher go is going to be tough, but this is Rich Harden. I know Gallagher has family on this board, so I hope they don't leave us just yet. Now just stay healthy Rich Harden.... :beg:
  8. The only problem I could see coming from that would be the potential for four 1B on the all star team. Berkman, Pujols, and Gonzalez are all more deserving right now. (Although I'm going to assume that Clint Hurdle will put Pujols in the DH spot)
  9. Who does he replace though? He's not better than Quentin, Drew, Bradley, or Sizemore. He should replace Crede, I haven't a clue what he's doing on the team. They already have a backup 3B in Guillen. How Crede made it over Longoria is a mystery to me. I think Francona still has some bad blood flowing from that Rays/ Red Sox fight. Out of the White Sox, I think Dye and Pierzynski deserved it more than Crede.
  10. This doesn't make too much sense either... http://mlb.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pMLB2-4834390dt.jpg
  11. Not at all. One game does not make or break an All-Star bid. He will either make or not make the team based on the entire season, not one game.I completely disagree. There has to be a cutoff point somewhere, and one game can easily make the difference. His ERA went up half a point and his save percentage dropped, so that can definitely break an All-Star bid. The rosters are announced tomorrow. I'm sure Clint Hurdle pretty much had his roster set before today's game. I don't think this one game will do anything for Wood's status as a possible all star.
  12. Someone needs to introduce Rich Hill to the concept of a "slump buster." Someone get Mark Grace on the horn. Have him pick up two bottles of bourbon and meet Rich in Lincoln Park for a night on the town.
  13. Because he's Manny Ramirez and everyone knows that players on the Red Sox and Yankees can do no wrong. He might even get a raise out of it.
  14. The title of this thread should be changed to "Manny being Chacon". Manny throws a team official to the ground, no disciplinary action required. Chacon throws a team official to the ground, and his career is pretty much over. I know they are different situations, but I'd think at least a fine would be in order.
  15. Yeah, but his name is Tyson Gay. Winner...me. Yeah, first and second place went to guys named Gay and Dix, on the same day that the gay pride parade was taking place. Let the giggling ensue.
  16. Oh man, then I actually do feel bad for Sox fans that have to watch their broadcasts. Cause that guy was ridiculous.
  17. His defense would be a plus, but I think just the fact that he'd probably find a way on base in front of some of the bigger hitters would be the definite upside. He doesn't have to get a base hit to be effective in the all star game. Just be there and provide RBI opportunities for the heavy hitters.
  18. Griffey being up there is exactly why they should do away with fan voting. Or at least only make it a certain percentage. If the All star game decides home field advantage in the world series, it too important to be left in the hands of the fans. Especially when those fans only vote for people because they've heard of them before. And this whole Aramis/Wright thing probably doesn't even matter. If Chipper can't play, they will probably both be selected. I don't care which one starts, as long as Aramis doesn't get hurt. But the NL needs more than one 3B represented, so I'm pretty sure they'd both probably go.
  19. Tyson Gay is faster than you. 9.68 (wind aided) in the 100. Fastest 100 meters ever run by anyone. World record is 9.72. Wind was 2 meters per second over the maximum allowed, otherwise he'd have the record. That's just filthy.
  20. Well, in his defense, there really wasn't a lot to talk about with the way the Cubs played tonight.
  21. That guy in green had to be the most annoying fan in the world. And I think someone needs to tell Joe Morgan that Blanco was the catcher today, not Soto. John Miller should've corrected him after the first few times he said it.
  22. Does anyone know why we don't use any of their traditions against them in the same manner as them draping the L flag? Because they have no traditions. I guess we could run onto the field and try to beat up the umpire or first base coach. Or we could accuse them of cheating. Those seem to be the only White Sox traditions I can think of. And I've always been amazed the Sox never got in the market of selling the blue "L" flags after the "W" flags starting appearing. For a team that hates the Cubs as much as they do, it seems like a no-brainer.
  23. Link. This is great news. I dont so much care about the All Star Game. maybe let him start, and only keep him for 1 inning, but we REALLY need to get the band back together. I'd prefer to keep him as far from the field at the All Star game as humanly possible. The last thing we need is for him to do something stupid trying to show off for the fans. I know he played in Yankee Stadium, so maybe it has some sentimental value to him, but an extra few days of rest and rehab might be the way to go.
  24. Yeah, the reports of AJ being a "douche" are highly exaggerated. For some reason everybody hates him, but during interviews and such, he's just like any other ballplayer. I honestly don't know where the anger started. I don't recall any hatred toward him or issues while in Minnesota although I definitely could be wrong since I focus more on the National League. The first issue(s) I can remember were with his teammates in SF and it seems that those were just blown out of proportion. There was an MLB player poll when he first joined the White Sox. The question was which MLB player would you most like to see beaned in the head. AJ won by a landslide, beating out Barry Bonds for the top spot. I don't think the reports are that exaggerated if all of MLB can't stand him. He's a smart player and always seems to be in the right spot at the right time, but he's by no means a well liked guy in MLB.
  25. I thought I heard that both teams were, but I'm too lazy to look it up and make sure.
