  1. That could be the greatest thing I've ever heard. :D
  2. This is just a random question that has crept into my head recently after I had a conversation with some people that are from Georgia. It seems to me that the Cubs fans that actually were raised in Chicago care more about keeping Wrigley Field than the people that live outside of Chicago. That stadium is a part of our city, and we take great pride in our city, and especially our "landmarks". So has anyone else noticed this? Or have I just been talking to a different sample of people. Cause many of the Cubs fans I know that live outside of Chicago see Wrigley as just an out of date stadium without the amenities of the newer ballparks. Many of them say they would have no problem with the Cubs building a newer stadium. But the people actually from Chicago see this as a travesty (myself included). Wrigley has been the Cubs home for so long, that it just seems wrong to me to even think about moving them out of there, or God forbid, tearing it down and putting up a new park. It'd be almost like seeing your childhood home demolished to make room for some gaudy condos.
  3. I'd be willing to bet it has something to do with his ego. I can't see him agreeing to something like that.
  4. That's already started with the Under Armour outfield doors. Actually, it started long before that.
  5. Same goes for Bill Murray. If Cuban and Bill Murray somehow teamed up to buy this team, I think I'd be in heaven. I know a lot of things would change, but Mark Cuban knows how to field a winning team.
  6. People would come watch the Cubs if they played on a barge somewhere on Lake Michigan, but that doesn't mean they should do it. There are only two real stadiums left from the old era (once Yankee stadium is gone anyway). You have to have some historical presence in a game that has been around this long, and has meant this much to our country.
  7. ::Looks at NSBB screenname and oversized sig.... cries a solitary tear out of left eye.:: At least the girl in your sig is cute as hell. Agreed. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/m_scafide/thatpepsigirl2.gif

  9. Now that I look, it has local landmark status, but doesn't say how the building should be used. Only a partial article since you have to register or pay for the rest: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_kmpre/is_200402/ai_kepm442780
  10. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the scoreboard has landmark status. So if the stadium were to be torn down, the scoreboard has to stay right where it is. So if they want to build shops or anything like that, they'd hvae to build around the scoreboard. Wrigley is being fixed little by little every year. They just expanded and reinforced the bleachers. They're technically replacing the dangerous parts of Wrigley section by section. I'd bet that in five years, all of the dangerous concrete will be replaced, and the stadium will look the same. And yes, this area would suffer dramatically with the loss of the Cubs to a new stadium somewhere else. Property values already peaked around here, so taking away the one real draw in the neighborhood would probably send this area into a huge downward spiral.

  12. If that's the case, then they should go back to the baggy pants look. Pic I'm all for the classic look with the pinstripes. But I also feel that the alternate uniforms should be used at least from time to time. Don't stop there http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/exhibits/online_exhibits/dressed_to_the_nines/images/nl_1901_chicago.gif I'm all for it.
  13. If that's the case, then they should go back to the baggy pants look. http://www.cycleback.com/20thphotos2_files/image009.jpg I'm all for the classic look with the pinstripes. But I also feel that the alternate uniforms should be used at least from time to time.
  14. First 20,000 fans get $1,000. I like it.
  15. The greys look like bad pajamas. Horribly ugly. And I'm not sure I'm a fan of the president messing with pitcher's superstitions. I think it should be left up to the starting pitcher all season. The blues were being worn too much, but if anything, you can limit there use, not get rid of them altogether.
  16. Yeah, those were the years that Dusty wanted to get all of the offense out of the way early. He didn't want a lot of runs clogging up the scoreboard all season.
  17. I know the season hasn't started yet, but I'm beginning to like Sweet Lou more and more every day. I have to admit, when they first signed him, I was skeptical. But he seems very focused on doing things the right way, and he's not afraid to help guys out when he sees a problem. It's a welcome change.
  18. I don't think picking the Cubs to win the division is that far-fetched. As far as playoff predictions go, it's pretty much a crapshoot so any scenario is reasonable. Exactly, I didn't pick the Cubs to win the division because I thought they were great. I picked them because I think the rest of the Central is just not that good.
  19. I'm not going to rank every division team by team, but rather give an overall divison winner prediction. NL East: New York Mets NL Central: Chicago Cubs by 1 game NL West: Arizona Diamondbacks NL Wildcard: Philadelphia Phillies AL East: Boston Red Sox AL Central: Minnesota Twins by 1 game over Cleveland AL West: LA Angels AL Wildcard: New York Yankees NLDS: Mets over Cubs in 5 NLDS: Dbacks over Phillies in 4 ALDS: Red Sox over Angels in 5 ALDS: Yankees over Twins in 3 NLCS: Mets over DBacks in 6 ALCS: Red Sox over Yankees in 5 World Series: Red Sox over Mets in 6 NL MVP: Albert Pujols AL MVP: David Ortiz (a DH finally wins one) NL Cy Young: Roy Oswalt (boooooo) AL Cy Young: Johan Santana
  20. I'm excited about everything. I'm sitting here biting my nails waiting for the Cards/Mets game to start because it means baseball is finally here. But here's a list of what I'm really excited about: * Sweet Lou managing. And hopefully not abusing our pitching staff. * Carlos Zambrano coming through on his Cy Young promise. * 3 MVP candidates in one lineup. * Aramis Ramirez having an absolute superstar breakout season. I think he's going to be the man on the Cubs this year. * Matt Murton hitting 2nd. Hopefully he stays there all year. I think he will be a great hitter with that much protection around him. * The triumphant return of Kid K. Once he gets over this injury, he comes back throwing scoreless inning after scoreless inning until he inherits the closer role. * Optimism around Wrigley Field. Last year ended on such a negative note, it was horrible. I think all the changes that were made will get everyone thinking about a winner again. * The NL Central race. Could be a four team race that goes down to the wire. * Michael Barrett winning back the Silver Slugger award. * Jason Marquis proving to me that he is in fact a better pitcher than a 7th grade girl. * The emergence of Rich Hill as a strong force in the National League. * The start of my fantasy league dynasty. There are so many more, but I don't want to take the fun out of this thread. One more day...
  21. I say for revenge, we figure out which Astros player has a good shot at making it into the all star game, then focus a lot of our energy on making sure that doesn't happen.
  22. I think if we counted up the number of votes from NSBB people, we'd have more than the Astros. Just by going back through this thread, I'm sure there are more than enough. Sorry Vance, you got hosed.
  23. Cubs win 6-3 First hit = Derrek Lee singles up the middle First Double = Izturas (yeah, that's right... Izturas) First RBI = Izturas First HR = Jacque Jones First SB = Soriano Zambrano = 6.2 IP, 6 K's, 2 BB, 4 hits, 2 ER Dempster saves it facing four hitters in the 9th.
  24. Once All-Star ballots are out, we will formulate proper strategy. I'm thinking Lee, Ramirez, and Barrett should be our focus this year. :D I'd say Soriano too, but he'll probably get in on name recognition alone. I'm up for helping out with getting Lee, Ramirez, and Barrett into the game.
