  1. Goodbye, Ronnie.
  2. Right. If this team craps the bed before the trade deadline, they could move 5m in salary dumping players to teams in the race pretty easily. Might even be able to net a respectable prospect or two depending on what Pena's production is at the time. I have no issues (for once) with this, and I commend Hendry for this signing. Mark that on the calendar, because it may be a while before you hear me praise Hendry again.
  3. I'd offer a low one-year base salary (5 million?) with a higher 2nd year vesting option based on IP and see if he takes it.
  4. Colvin I'd send in a heartbeat. Marshall I don't know.
  5. Wow. A fat joke. How very original. Once again I have been defeated by your rapier wit and razor sharp intellect. Whatever shall I do? And I'm actually more of a brownie man, fyi. I was just making a little social commentary, not complaining. Anyway: Garza! Woo!
  6. It's called exaggeration. People around here tend to read things literally You can say that again.
  7. For the reasons TT outlined, now would be a good time to trade Lee but you have to think there is better value at a position of need than Matt Garza. TT made some good points, but mine was that Lee could bring more value than just Garza if we're going to trade him.
  8. I do want Garza, but I don't know if I want him badly enough to trade Lee for him.
  9. Isn't Lee supposed to be some sort of uber-prospect, or am I mistaken?
  10. The madness ends for good after Week 17, so they're trying to squeeze every last drop of him they can. Plus, I think they're just looking for excuses to keep Ed Werder employed. Don't be so sure. I'd put even odds on offseason talk of him at least considering coming back.
  11. To me, Pat is so damn good it's scary. There's no one else I would rather listen to call a game. He and Keith Moreland would be the best booth in the game. During the games where Moreland was in the booth, he seemed like a natural. He was informative, knew when to talk and when not to, and had good chemistry with Pat. I wonder if he'd be willing to pull double duty between the Cubs and the U of Texas football. Please, no more Dave Otto.
  12. That article says we'd part with 'a number of top prospects', so I assume it wouldn't be Wells, seeing as he's no longer a prospect. Who would TB want?
  13. That too. So at least during Galaragga-pitched games that Joyce calls, he'll have a big strike zone!
  14. But Galarragga has pitched a perfect game. Gorzo hasn't. So that means he's better.
  15. Ok, I retract the "excel" comment, but I still think he'd be an improvement and could be a solid pitcher for us.
  16. I haven't read, but are there any option years or vesting contract years based on incentives?
  17. agreed. i'm a little surprised at the lack of excitement about this possibility. I'm in favor of any trade that improves the team, and I think Garza would.
  18. A toupee on fire? for the 2011 season only, the Chicago National League Ballclub will be reanamed "The Flaming Toupees"
  19. A lot of people keep saying this, but I'm not sure that it's an accurate statement. While he may see a slight improvement in his overall numbers, it's not like he's going to turn into Roy Halladay. Garza would probably be better off in the NL West, where the ballparks tend to be more favorable to fly-ball pitchers. True, but he won't have to face the mega-offenses of Boston and New York, plus it's always easier for a pitcher to go from the AL to the NL than vice-versa because of no DH. Will he put up Halladay numbers? No. But I think his stats could improve. Saying he could improve is a lot different than saying he could "excel". I never said he would "excell". But I think Garza would be an improvement in our rotation. Z/Garza/Demp/Cashner/? isn't like Oswalt/Hamels/Halladay, but it's not terrible. Solid at worst.
  20. Anything on Grienke other than just idle speculation?
