  1. I think it's harder to move Lee right now than some of you would think. Oh, sure, a ton of teams would be calling Hendry 24 hours a day if they thought for a minute that Lee was going to be put on the market, however, he has become a big time fan-favorite in Chicago and the fans would rebel, IMO. It's always tricky trading a fan favorite.
  2. Um, possilby because we already had Maddux under contract? Thanks for you sarcastic remark, I really appeciate your input. If you would take the time to address the question which is why not pay Clement when they chose to pay Maddux. I would have loved them to, I've have loved to keep the same rotation from last year, but like someone else said, I guess they didn't think they needed him or could afford him.
  3. You want to fire Baker who's yet to have a Cub team not finish under .500 (no real accomplishment), for a guy who had only one season above .500, and got swept in the 1998 playoffs? Perhaps there's a good reason why no one else has hired Riggleman. Ok, allow me to play the "talent" card again. Look at the 1998 team, and compare it to the 2003 and 2004 teams. I'll follow your lead, okay allow me to ask again. Why hasn't anyone else hired Riggleman? By the way, the 1998 Cubs had a very good Lieber and Wood pitching combo, and Sosa who was head and shoulders better than anyone on the 2003 and 2004 teams. But my main question is why hasn't Riggleman been hired by anyone else? I don't have an issue in firing Bakre if you change personnel on the team or at least provide a better name than Jim Riggleman. Grady Little.

  6. I think he's in the Dodger organization somewhere. I want to say bench coach?
  7. Are you ####ING KIDDING ME??? MACIAS? Sweet lord. GOD. He is such an idiot. WHY IN THE HELL is Macias playing over Hairston, and WHY IN THE HELL is Neifi playing over cedeno. GOOD LORD. I think it is pretty clear that Dusty does not like Hairston. Maybe his dad did something to Baker. I cannot understand it at all. That lineup is almost as bad as some of the gems Don Baylor trotted out there in 2002.
  8. The only way the Cubs win w/ Baker is if the Trib gives him a $150 million budget. 2 1/2 years is enough of this guy. You could give 75% of the members on this board a $100 million payroll and they could probably go 40-42. 90% could probably figure out you don't bat Neifi and Patterson before the NL's 1st half MVP. Preach it, brother!
  9. Did he say a trade was eminant within the next 2 days? He also reported a huge blockbuster was imminent about a month ago, leading many fans to believe Dunn was coming here, and then didn't do any follow-up reports after he reported it the first time.
  10. Haha, I loved that part, and loved that piece. Mainly, I missed a lot of it though because of my man-crush on Andre Dawson. Dude was my all-time favorite player. He was my friggin idol as a kid. But yeah, far too early to talk about the triple crown. It's like talking about DiMaggio every time someone reaches a 20-game hit streak.
  11. Joe Morgan, arguably Ryne Sandberg's most vocal critic in the media, has decided to snub Ryno at his HOF induction ceremony. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/rozner.asp?id=70276 It should be noted that this is Morgan's first missed induction ceremony since 1990.
  12. It's always bad times when someone affiliated with the team visits a message board. Dave Duncan visited Cards Talk once anonymously, posted something (I think something positive about Chuck Finley but I could be wrong) and he got ripped to shreds by a ton of posters. When they found out it was Dunc, the anti-Duncussa or LaDuncan (whichever you prefer) faction came out of the woodwork and made fun of him to no end. It was ugly. Say it with me now...m-o-d-e-r-a-t-o-r-s. I absolutely love the fact that we've got one of the beat writers for the Cubs as a regular reader here, one of the minor league announcers, we've had minor league players come online and browse (and post???). A lot of people have complained that we run a "country club" type of atmosphere here or claim censorship...but our ability to attract and retain some of these people is only possible because we keep that type of thing under control. The people on that website could have benefitted tremendously by having Duncan contributing from time to time but lost that by allowing a few people to drive him away. Tell those people to spend five minutes at the ESPN.com Cubs bulletin board to see what a lack of "censorship" is like. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!! Do people still actually visit the Cubs ESPN.com board? Anyone intelligent, anyway?
  13. Not to be a suckup, but that's why this is the best baseball forum I've ever read. Your moderators do their job and actually take pride in running a great forum. Amen. I came here because it was a great place to talk baseball with knowledgable people, and no trolls. People on other boards complain that NSBB doesn't allow conflicting opinions which is completely untrue. They don't allow people who come here only to get a rise out of others. And that's what is great. :hand: I completely disagree. just providing a conflicting opinion for the fun of it. We don't allow that here. *goes off in search of Modzilla* :P
  14. I've had my entire life full of pain with this team.... what's 2 more months?
  15. Roast and Erik, I have no idea on what teams Hendry is in discussions with regarding Patterson, but one of my sources did indicate that Corey was being discussed as a package with pitching. Can't shed any light beyond this. Hoops No sweat. Thanks for the info, though. It'll be interesting to see if anyone bites and what we get for Corey if he does get traded. In a pure scenery change for scenery change deal, could you see Patterson being dealt to San Diego for Sean Burroughs? I doubt Patterson would start over Dave Roberts. How about Maddux and Patterson for Nady and Burroughs?? Burroughs has potential. Patterson has "potential", too. Potential and 50 cents will buy you a phone call.
  16. Now if only the Nationals would be interested in taking Dusty off our hands. Hoops, you heard anything? Just kidding.
  17. We can actually beat good pitchers. See: Halladay, Garland. It's the crappy rookies that we like to lose to. Bonus points if they can't crack 90 and throw lefty.
  18. Hendry has made some good trades, but I don't know what is up with him with Dusty. Dusty has to be blackmailing him somehow... that's about the only way I can see this crap going on for as long as it has.
  19. Funny, I dont remember that. (you're old) :P i don't remember them being bad either. It wasn't that long ago. As recently as 89' the Braves were terrible, and they had been for the better part of the 80's, IIRC. well, there is a good reason. I was born in 88. i was also born in 88 so thats why i didn't remember them being bad. It's really amazing that a team has won so much in such a long period of time like they have, yet they only have 1 WS to show for it in that time span. To breed a winning tradition, you can't just field good players and hope for the best. A good on-field product is merely a part. You need an entire organization on the same page, from the GM to the manager, to the minor league coaches and managers, to the scouts, to the players on the ML roster. I'd be shocked if the Cubs had any 2 of those on the same page.

  21. please oh please let our manager be fired tomorrow He won't be, but that was some good times. I think I literally danced when Baylor got the can.
  22. And if he still has any value, and if Hendry is inquiring more about dealing Patterson individually, or part of a package?
  23. No thanks. I have no problem trading the other guys, but not Walker. Is this just you speculating, or is this like the famous "Is Choi for Lee on anybody's radar" thread?
