  1. Personally, I'd root for the Sox, seeing as I'm not from Chicago and don't really hate the Sox like some posters here. The Cardinals, however, sacrifice kittens to Satan and routinely feed on the brains of children before each game.
  2. Corey shouldn't get a callup until he starts hitting. What kind of message would that send? And besides, if he's having trouble hitting AAA pitchers, he'll most certianly have trouble hitting ML pitchers, which will completely destroy his confidence if it's not shattered already.
  3. I've been saying "Wait till next year" for most of the year.
  4. That is exactly the reason that players love playing for Dusty. He'll give them chance after chance after chance after chance, even if they keep making the same boneheaded plays, and they won't get benched. Dusty will make excuses for them in the media, and keep playing them over someone on the bench who is more qualified, even as they keep making the same boneheaded mistakes, because Dusty is a loyal dude. I'd love to go to a job where I wasn't held accountable for anything either.
  5. That was my thought.
  6. He would be my choice. Thirded. Fourthed. Bring that little guy up!!! Works for me. Poor guy has seen all of one pitch in the majors so far. At least he has an interesting story to tell his grandkids. How's Bacon doing? I know in previous years he didn't hit for much but was fast as hell.
  7. He's a real solid player that works the count to his advantage and studies pitchers before games. He's a guy who turned his career around through hard work and perseverance. Would love to have a guy like him on the Cubs. He can start in the outfield and play third base as well whenever Ramirez goes down with a groin pull. Baltimore could probably use Mitre, but I don't know if they can give up Mora without someone to take his spot. Plus, Mora is the kind of guy they would want to keep if they are serious about a run for a playoff spot. Mora would be awesome at or near the top of the lineup, but you'd think Baltimore would want to build around him, Tejada, and Roberts on the offense.
  8. Apparently, the steroid Raffy took is very easy to detect. So easy, in fact, that no known masking agent can cover it up. Also, -- It takes 6-8 weeks for the drug to have any effect -- It's very difficult to find in the US -- the pill form lingers in your body for up to a month, the injection for several months -- 11 of the 12 positive drug tests in MLB in 2004 tested positive for Stanzonol, probably because you can get strength from it, but it doesn't bulk you up. -- It's primarily used by vets to help large animals like horses recover from surgery. Athletes like it because it can help them prevent serious injury. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050804/ap_on_sp_ba_ne/bba_drugs_palmeiro
  9. even if cpatt got it going he'd struggle to be an avg right fielder offensively Right fielders aren't doing what they used to without the roids. I'd think a patient CPatt could at least deliver Juan Encarcion, Jose Guilen, Jeromy Burnitz type numbers. But, could he be patient? That's his whole problem.
  10. I'd rather not have Burny back next year. Give the kids a shot. I would not at all be sad to see Murton, Pie, and Lawton as the opening day OF'ers next year. I also want to see Neifi and Macias released, replaced with Cedeno and who knows. Maybe Greenberg, although he can't play the INF. Any decent utility guys in FA next year? And Patterson has to play his way back onto this team. Nothing should be handed to him. And if a GM offers us a decent trade for him, or if we can use him in a package to land a stud player, I say do it.
  11. I'm curious on how Hendry really feels about Baker...I mean really feels, not the company line. Unfortuantely we'll never know. He keeps giving Dusty "his boys" like Neifi, Macias, Hollandsworth, etc, so knowing this, he must at least approve of some of the job Dusty is doing.
  12. Maybe if we drop into 4th like the Orioles, the management will get a clue and fire the manager. Never gonna happen. The Trib's too damn cheap to eat a contract. The best we can hope for is that Baker gets busted with a trunk load of weed and tossed in jail. The trib is eating $12 million of Sammy's contract for this year. Why not eat an extra 4?
  13. But we should move away from always having to rely on the home run to score.
  14. Actually this team is very consistent. It's hovered around .500 for the majority of the season. They've been no more than what? Six games over and no worse than five under all year I think. That's consistent. Mediocre, but consistent. The fans need to let them have it when they get home. I mean seriously let them have it. They deserve it. Especially Dusty. But then it'll hurt thier feelings and they'll all run away crying.
  15. Did the pitchers all run over to cover the bag today?
  16. I'll still follow them, but only for sheer morbid entertainment only.
  17. I think we should all pile on them and say they suck. At least they kept winning when the game threads were started with negativity. But yeah, there is no way this team catches Houston. I don't care how many games we have left against them, this team can't beat the teams it needs to beat. It will NOT make the playoffs.
  18. How'd the 4 runs for the Phillies score in the 1st? Do I want to know? 2 singles, walk, Abreu with a grand slam (his first HR since ASB.) Dammit. Why do guys always break out of a slump against the Cubs?
  19. How'd the 4 runs for the Phillies score in the 1st? Do I want to know?
  20. Do you think he'd still have a job if Raffy hadn't tested positive? Yes, they're 1-14 their last 15 games, but do you think Raffy was any sort of a factor?
  21. At least he's better than Alfonseca. Yes, I can't believe that's the only positive I can think of right now.
