  1. Man, maybe Hoops has a connection or something that he could get that to Hendry. I'd do that in a minute.
  2. Hmm...I love our odds if this is true You may like our odds, but with (at least) five other teams vying for his services, and none of us really know if Hendry has just a passing interest, or has been on the phone constantly for the last 24 hours trying to swing something, do you really like our odds that much compared to the other teams?
  3. Yar. Walker can get on base, talk a walk, and not strike out as much. Soriano will drive you batty with K's. When Nomar comes back I'd rather have Walker at 2nd and Murton in left than Soriano in left and Neifi at 2nd because you know that's what'll happen.
  4. Back to Manny, I never did catch what that thing was about last week when he went through the door in the wall at Fenway and almost didn't make it back in time for the next pitch. Can someone fill me in as to what that was all about? Thanks.
  5. I'd be for a Soriano trade if we hang on to Walker. If we deal Walker, then no thanks.
  6. Since I'm incredibly naive and hopelessly optimistic, I'll get pretty excited for the Cubs if the Manny/Mets deal breaks down. But only because I'm incredibly naive and hopelessly optimistic :) . Yeah, I'd say that's about right. Seriously, while I'd love to have his bat, we just spent a whole offseason purging this team of guys with attitude problems far less than what Manny has.
  7. I'd gladly do it, but there is about as much chance of the Cubs landing Manny as there is me getting struck by lightning 5 times between now and the trade deadline.
  8. If the crowd was chanting "Edmonds sucks" and we were playing the Cardinals, would this really be that big of an issue?
  9. As much as I'd love to see Manny's bat protecting Lee in the lineup, it's not gonna happen. Sure, we pulled the trigger on Nomar, but Manny>>>>>>>Nomar. Not happening, folks. I'll change my username to "Uglyfairywussy" for a month if we land Manny.
  10. How long is he under contract? I don't see how you can say he won't help them in the future. The Brewers will be having a huge influx of young talent coming up on both offense and pitching, and they'll need a veteran like Lee to anchor the offense and be a leader.
  11. Sporting News Radio (don't know how reliable that is) reporting that the Rangers, Marlins, and Blue Jays have all contacted Boston about Manny as well.
  12. With him being almost a .500 hitter since his callup (granted, 32 ab's isn't a big sample size) and Hollandsworth catching Corey Patterson disease at the plate, how long do you think it will be before Dusty makes Murton the everyday starter against both lefties and righties? Now I'm not a big fan of Dusty, granted, but he DID give Doobie a chance (albiet a small one) earlier this year, so there is a precident.
  13. Remember, they're the Mets. They can overcome any amount of talent to lose in the end! As can the Cubs. See 2003, 2004.
  14. I wouldn't do Aram for Manny. Sure, Manny can post better stats, but would 10 hr and 40 rbi pmore per year (if that) plus a major attitude be worth $10 million more than the production we're already getting out of Aram? Not to me, it wouldn't be.
  15. Depending on salary considerations and prospects, I might be interested in that deal the Cubs countered with. Even that first deal.... I could part with Hill for Manny, but not Pie. We have plenty of young arms in the minors, but very few good young bats. Would boston eat some of the salary? I mean, assuming this actually happened, because it is Bruce Levine, after all. I could do Hill, Patterson, and Burnitz. Move Murton to RF and have Manny, Hairston, and Murton left to right. Not too darn shabby.
  16. This quote should be in every signature on NSBB in extra-large type until people get the point.
  17. Haha, Derwood stole the Fark pirate.
  18. Dusty Baker is not going to be fired. The Cubs would have to pay him 4 million dollars to go fishing. This isn't Cincy, that's not going to happen. If we can pay Sammy $12 million to play in Baltimore this year, why can't we buy out Dusty's contract and send his fat butt packing?
  19. This is the 2nd year in a row now they've made a significant midseason trade, Beltran last year and Huff this year. And who is Hendry gonna get?
  20. I'm not saying I don't cheer. Hell, I screamed myself hoarse cheering at the game yesterday. My throat still hurts and my voice sounds funny. I was cheering like you wouldn't believe, especially when they did well (although that's not the only time I cheered. I shouted MVP a few times when Lee was up, and I was cheering in the clutch situations, and especially after Burnitz got the game winning hit.) But I let them hear it after Dusty trotted Z out there one inning too long, and after they didn't score the runner from 3rd with nobody out, too.
  21. Fine, so when the Cubs fail to score the runner from 3rd with no outs, or a Cubs pitcher blows a pretty good lead late in the game, you can sit there and sing "kumbaya" while I express my displeasure with thier performance. Yes, because those of us who don't boo obviously are happy when the Cubs struggle. Again, what does booing accomplish? Are the players so stupid they don't understand when they failed and need the fans booing to help them figure it out? In regards to what oldcubsfan mentioned, I really liked Ryan Dempster's quotes on the topic. By that logic, what good would complaining about the Cubs/Hendry/Dusty do on this board? Why even do it if its such a big fat waste of time and won't change anything? NSBB has become popular enough now to where some of the people affiliated with the Cubs have read it. Do you think posting your displeasure on an internet message board is going to change things, either? Not a flame, Raisin, I'm just trying to make a point. Maybe I'm misreading you, but do you really think that all the complaining on this board about Dusty and the Cubs matters to the organization? Do you truly think a business decision is made because of posts on this board? You are misreading me. I'm saying that's NOT the case. Raisin said something to the effect of "booing won't help a player become better" and I said "well, by that logic posting about something you dislike in the Cubs orgaization on this board won't make things better, either, so what's the point?"
  22. Didn't WGN radio broadcast a few Cubs games from the previous season on Christmas in 1998 or 1999 or so?
  23. Haha. Awesome. Awesome b-day present for me. I can't wait.
