  1. I think it's kind of interesting. And I disagree with those who said the end of the season sucked. There were meaningful seedings questions (especially when that involves domed teams and cold weather teams), and the entire AFC was fighting for 2 wild card spots. I enjoyed the last two weeks of this NFL season much more than I enjoyed the last month of baseball. When was the last time an NFL wild-card playoff game featured a week 17 rematch, much less three?
  2. Not me. I want the Vikes. Knocking Brett Favre out of the playoffs would be better than sex.
  3. bingo I don't understand the extreme amount of Theriot hate on this board. I think he's just fine at the top of the order. He certainly is not a liability at the plate, and it's not like he has some massive contract to live up to.
  4. Wow. He's pretty much contradicting himself. Yeah, he's just phoning it in at this point.
  5. That's a scary thought. This team can't afford to trade Zambrano at this point, unless it's an offer that Hendry would be an absolute idiot to turn down.
  6. So do I, brother. So do I.
  7. I doubt it's Z. If it were, Bruce would be all over it.
  8. for the team it's about winning the world series. ultimately, a gm can't control what his team does in the playoffs. all he does is build a team and then hope they perform when it matters. if the 2008 cubs had shown up for the playoffs and won the world series, would that have meant jim hendry had built a better team? no, it still would have been the same team he built. let me ask you something. who deserves more credit- walt jocketty for building the 2006 cards (won 83 games, but also the world series) jim hendry for building the 2008 cubs (97 wins, swept in the first round) ? Which season would you rather take as a fan?
  9. I can see Childress's point, though. How many more hits do you want your HOF Quarterback taking with the playoffs mere weeks away? At least he could have been rested for a while and inserted back into the game for the final few offensive series if the game was still close. And I was glad to see classic Green Bay Favre, the BS we had to put up with for years: Hit him a few times, get inside his head, and he goes and makes throws into triple coverage that a Pop Warner QB wouldn't make.
  10. Five years ago, you could still believe in wins as a stat and simply be considered behind the times. But if you don't have some sort of evidence that you were in a coma, monastary, or frozen Encino Man style, we have to assume that you're choosing to remain ignorant rather than attempt intelligent conversation. Stop wasting our time. Sorry, Rob. But you and your confused ilk have yet to provide any stat that is more important than wins for a starting pitcher, especially one that is paid over $18 million a year. What's more important WHIP? Other stats have importance but not to the degree of wins. Your expectations seem quite low and indicative of your understanding. So then tell me this: Although I'll grant you that wins are a factor when considering the elite pitchers of the time (300 wins is an automatic ticket to Cooperstown, but only because you have to be a great pitcher to stick around long enough to accumulate 300 wins), answer me this question: I'll give you the stat lines of two pitchers. Tell me which had the better year. Pitcher A) 8-16 record, 2.76 ERA, 142 ERA+, 270 K's, 1.139 WHIP Pitcher B) 19-9 record, 4.85 ERA, 90 ERA+, 136 K's, 1.397 WHIP
  11. He's got 5/10 rights. And he was the first player in history to exercise that right to block a trade. ninja edit: That trade was to the Angels in 1972 for a pair of guys who never amounted to anything. After that, he was traded to the White Sox.
  12. He's been the GM for 7 seasons and during that time the team has been no better than the Florida Freaking Marlins. Who cares about giving him credit for the occasional good get, he sucks at putting together good baseball teams with any sort of consistency despite having more than enough financial advantage to do so with what should be relative ease. I'm intrigued by your ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
  13. Thats understandable but If you could net Cano and Melky in a trade, you fill two holes and dont have to waste money on Byrd. Which you could then use the money to sign maybe Capps and a Starting pitcher. Plus with the money Z saves you, you can add two starters. Maybe signing sheets to a incentive deal and adding another arm as insurance. If this is what would happen, then I'd trade Z today. However, I don't trust Jim Hendry to do it. He'd probably get back Melky and some B-level prospects, then go out and overpay for some mediocre-at-best starter with the money he saves with Z.
  14. I don't think the time is right to trade Z at this moment. Our rotation already took a big hit with Harden leaving. If you trade Z without getting a quality starter in return it takes another hit. Sure, Cano would be nice and I'd love to see him in a Cubs uniform, but I've never been a big fan of creating one hole to fill another.
  15. So by that you mean he is a guy who is alive? Haha. Touche, sir.
  16. I wonder what came up in his physical.
  17. Nyjer Morgan woudln't be a terrible acquisition, but I feel he's exactly the type of guy Hendry would overpay for.
  18. I hope Hendry called the police, because he got raped.
  19. Hendry should have been gone a long time ago, far before he ever had the chance to do the incredible amount of damage that he's done. That should have been the #1 thing that Ricketts did once he officially took control of the team. I mean immediately, as in "Congrats, Mr. Ricketts. You now officially own the Chicago Cubs." "Great! (dials phone) Hey, Jim? You're fired."
  20. Ok genius, so what do you do other than this trade since you seem to know what options were out there. If you release him, you dont get the 6 million that you just saved. And again, not sure how anyone can assume he'll be in the rotation, especially coming off injury and with those numbers. YOU KEEP HIM AND YOU PLAY HIM NEXT YEAR. DINGDINGDINGDING.... We have a winner!
  21. So, worst case scenario, hanging onto Bradley would have meant starting him and hoping he could have fit in and mended fences in 2010. Even if he was terrible and the same old Milton, he could have been DFA'ed. Instead, we trade him for a godawful overpaid pitcher who, because of his contract, will most certainly be given the 5th spot in the rotation, further holding out guys who may have great springs like Marshall, Gorz, Wells, etc and will continue to be craptastic every 5th game.
  22. This. Expand the rosters, and have a fielding team and a hitting team. Why not go all out? i'm for it! I vote erik goes all out on a 6-foot party sub and stops talking baseball Because I was the one that brought up the idea. Got it.
  23. booze or, you know, adrenaline My vote is for stupidity.
  24. And you specifically KNOW this for absolute fact because......? Even if they wouldn't, other players COULD improve those aspects of their game. And no matter what, there are always going to be bad hitters and bad fielders. DH or no DH, that isn't going to change. Yeah. I want to act all self-righteous. You got me there. Hey, everyone, I'm going to go stop posting now because imb! figured me out!  Are you this obnoxious in your everyday life, or do you just save it for NSBB?
