  1. Granderson is a player that's right up Hendry's alley: He's a leadoff guy who's left-handed and can catch the ball.
  2. But that won't stop this thread from reaching 100 pages.
  3. This guy doesnt think a trade will happen. Phil Rogers says the Cubs will "become aggressive" in acquiring Granderson if/when the Tigers decide to field offers for him.
  4. It doesn't matter if it's a "tough" lefty or not. Regardless of the skills of the pitcher, if he throws with his left hand, he will get Granderson out. That includes all-star starters like the ones you mentioned, 5th starters, closers, and journeymen relievers. I'm sure a few of the more skilled left-handed peanut guys at Wrigley would probably get him out. HE IS A PLATOON PLAYER!!! Learn it, love it. is he a platoon player if he's by far our best defensive option in cf? Is he good enough in CF (in terms of runs saved or whatever defensive metric you care to use) on days the Cubs face a lefthander to justify playing him against lefhanders?

  6. For the first time since (I believe) February, the Greatest Game Ever Pitched will be replayed on MLB Network on Sunday at 5pm Central time. Watch from a half-full Wrigley Field on a drizzly, overcast day as a rookie punches his ticket to baseball immortality by dominating the Houston Astros like no pitcher has ever dominated before.
  7. Adrian winning it is better than when Palmerio won it after only playing like 50 games at 1B that year.
  8. That happens all the time. Besides, the Roberts deal was killed by the [expletive] of Angelos. It's not like those were two deals that we can look at as Hendry screwed up. Nowhere did I blame Hendry.
  9. I feell Hendry did the right thing with Peavy. Holding out Vitter and supposedly marshall. Peavy is a very good pitcher but the cubs need youth on their team. I hope the cubs keep their young prospects and actually develop them into something. I'm not saying that Hendry was wrong, especially if the reports are true that more than once the Cubs and Padres had a deal worked out, only for San Diego to suddenly decide to raise the price after the fact. I'm just saying that for the past 2 offseasons we've come very close to acquiring a big-name player (Roberts and Peavy), only to fall short. I'm saying Granderson will be that player this offseason. Just watch.
  10. I hereby predict Curtis Granderson to be the coveted-yet-unacquired target for this offseason, much like Jake Peavy was last year, and Brian Roberts the one before that.
  11. The reason I don't want to give up Theriot and Marmol together is that I've never been a big fan of creating one hole to fill another. We already have a MIF hole. Do we want another? Marmol, although the more valuable of the two, is more easily replaced with Guzman. We don't have anyone in the system that is ready to replace Theriot next year, so that would lead to another trade or FA signing. I just don't want this huge MIF hole filled by Baker and Fontenot. If we traded Bradley for Burrell, then flipped Burrell to another AL team for a decent 2B or SS, then I'd say go for it. But I'd have another move lined up first before trading away Theriot or we could really be hurting there come Opening Day.
  12. I'd rather deal Theriot than Marmol, but under no circumstances would I deal both. Either, a bench guy, and some decent prospects would be as high as I'm willing to go.
  13. Um.... where did I ever say Hendry had to throw him under the bus? Admitting a mistake can be something other than saying "This guy sucks, I don't want him on my team anymore." If Hendry doesn't try to actively replace him or get rid of him somehow (think another Bradley trade but on a smaller scale), it's obvious that he's happy with Miles, who was a mistake from the start. Hendry has taken far too long to correct himself on a great deal of things: Neifi, Bynum, Macias, letting Dusty play those guys ad nauseum, letting Dusty manage out his contract instead of canning his sorry ass, and other things I'm too tired to think of right now.
  14. The sooner Hendry is gone the sooner we will become contenders. Agreed, but only half of our MIF is a problem. We could do a hell of a lot worse than Theriot. But we need another to replace him. The one thing that irks me the most about Hendry is his complete inability or unwillingness to admit a mistake.
  15. I hate to see reports like this. Letting people know you are desperate, is generally not a good negotiating tactic. It's really not the huge deal that a lot of people think it is if Bradley isn't traded. I'm sure if he put his mind to it, if Hendry put his tiny mind to it and tried like hell to mend fences, Bradley would be fine in RF next year. But I'm not liking the "OMG WE'RE DESPERATE WE'LL TAKE ANYTHING PLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASETAKEHIM!!" approach.
  16. I know we have very limited resources this offseason, but if Bradley is traded and we don't get an OF back in return, how would people feel about Jermaine Dye for RF if Hendry doesn't go nuts and give him a huge contract?
  17. I'd go after him anyway, and worry about the "What to do with Lee" problem later.
  18. Might be vitiligo. If so, that really sucks. I still love ya, Sammy!
  19. Wouldn't have minded taking a shot at JJ if he had a cheaper contract. Horrible trade for the Brewers, though. All the Brewers fans I work with are pissed off that they didn't get any pitching in return.
  20. Has the deadline to offer Harden arbitration passed? If Lilly is going to be out, we need to lock up Harden. Call me skeptical with the "mid april" stuff. I heard that too many times before from the Cubs regarding Prior and Wood that I don't believe anything the medical staff says anymore.
  21. This facility will serve the Cubs for 30 years. Today's intense demand for ST tickets may well erode in coming seasons, especially as the Cubs' national fandom declines absent the reach of 160 games on WGN and the presence of expansion teams in places like Phoenix and Denver, places in which large numbers of western fans latched onto the team in the 1980s. The Cubs have to prepare for a future in which they may need to work to build spring crowds. Naples is 500 miles closer to Wrigley Field, the Grapefruit schedule is more interesting and Florida is a longstanding vacation destination. Why not move to Vero Beach? They lost the Dodgers and I'm sure "Dodgertown' would turn a different shade of blue and become "Cubbieville"
  22. if the Yankees only win once every 9 years I'll be ok with it.
  23. I was with you until the word lose. Then you completely lost me. I'm not sure what you mean. Both teams lost game 5 on the road before returning home for games 6 and 7. Petitte and Sabathia = Prior and Wood?
