  1. My wife had a good time the first time I took here there. We were dating at the time. The date? July 20, 2004. Cubs blow an 8-2 lead after 3 innings to the Cardinals, Pujols goes deep 3 times and LaTroy Hawkins goes ape poopy. It certainly was an interesting ride home.
  2. Pass on Beltre. He seems like a contract year player to me, last year in Seattle excluded. After posting his 1.017 OPS his last year in LA, he posted OPS's of .716, .792, .802, .784. .683. Granted, Safeco isn't the best hitter's ballpark there is, but my God. Now that he can opt out in Boston after this year he's posting a .917 OPS. That kind of player always makes me leery.
  3. The Cubs are still on my TV, more than 150 times a year because I HAVE DIRECTV i honestly don't understand why anyone who can get it doesn't. Because I don't feel like paying $180 to watch maybe half the games. There's so many on during the day that it's hard to justify paying that much for really so few games. My cable bill is way too high already. BUT MAN YOU REALLY NEED TO SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY YOU DONT HAVE AND GET IT EVEN AS JUST A STATUS SYMBOL TO TELL EVERYONE ON THE INTERNET HOW COOL YOU ARE!!!
  4. Aram wasn't a good defender in Pittsburgh, was he? If I recall, that was the one major knock on him when we traded for him.
  5. Well, it may seem obvious, but with as many statheads around now who think strikeouts are no big deal, you'd think Hollandsworth wouldn't be that far off.
  6. Man, I miss those days.
  7. My GF has DirecTV. Every time it rains or snows the damn thing stops working. EVERY TIME. She needs her dish re-peaked. I'll re-peak her dish. Heh heh. :-"
  8. I honestly don't know how to feel. On the one hand, I want the Cubs to continue playing good ball for as long as they can. Aram finally coming around really has seemed to spark this team. However, on the other hand, I know it won't last, and I know that this is the absolute worst time possible for them to get hot. If they continue winning, Hendry might think we have a chance and won't be sellers and won't trade away Lilly and/or Lee, and both of them walk after the season. In fact, he might even try to be a buyer in a futile attempt to make a playoff run and save his job.
  9. I was to until i realized we beat Blanton and Moyer and get to see Hamels and Halladay the next two days. Get one of those please If by some miracle we beat both Hamels and Halladay I predict game threads will be much more populated for a while.
  10. They'll get hot for just long enough to suck us back in, then remember they're the Cubs.
  11. With Wood there was a significant chance he wouldn't pitch at all in a season. With DLee there's a chance, but it's nowhere near the level it was for Wood. The injuries and the price tag on Wood make the two not very comparable. I think there's a very good chance DLee won't pitch at all in a season. :)
  12. Don't be too impressed. They scored runs off of an 80-year-old man.
  13. I'm hoping Oswalt is difficult in waiving his NTC. The longer he waits the more valuable Lilly becomes. However, that's not to say I think he'll be difficult nor do I have any reason to believe he'll do so. And only a handful of teams can afford to take on Oswalt's salary for the next few years, anyway. The more I think about it, the more I think we really could get a respectable package back for Lilly.
  14. Probably that and some kind of mandatory salary base, too. The next CBA ought to be interesting.
  15. Stay classy, Joey.
  16. People have been saying that for about 90 years now. Well, they did have a stretch from the mid 60's to the mid 70's and from the early 80's to the early 90's where they weren't very good. The Yankees have been down before, but they always get right back up.
  17. If we could get something for him, why not?
  18. It was kind of surprising to hear that McCann's hit was the first 3-rbi non-HR hit in the history of the All-star game. Something like 82 games and nobody had ever hit a bases-clearing double. Odd.
  19. Byrd a key player in the NL victory. Geez, I wasn't even a Sophomore in HS the last time the NL won.
  20. Probably because the Cubs kinda suck and don't deserve 2 All Stars. It doesn't matter the Cubs overall record. If the Cubs only have 1 all-star, it should be Marmol. He deserves to be there, period.
