I am also underwhelmed by your next post before I see it but feel pretty safe I will be right about that. Forgive me for not living up to your high standards, Mr. Gammons. For the record, you don't really thrill me, either. Anyway, I just can't shake this feeling that Hendry got bent over. Oh, how I want to be wrong.

So you are saying you are currently underwhelmed based on the fact you have no idea who the Cubs are getting back in the trade? I'm underwhelmed until I see the prospects we get in return. I am saying right now I am underwhelmed with the Cubs 2011 draft until I see what players they pick. Just to go on record. Works for me.

Reports are Cubs are sending$2.5 million and getting back 2 minor league pitchers, no names yet.

So long, Ted, and thank you for 4 solid years of production. I wish you luck the rest of your career. You were one of my favorite Cubs your entire time here. I always found it funny that we came *this* close to acquiring Soriano and Lilly from the Yanks in exchange for Sammy back in 2000 and then 7 years later we had them both anyway.

So does this mean that the Kelly Johnson deal isnt happening? If we get either DeWitt or Johnson, we almost have to dangle Fontenot and get anything we can, because theres no point having both. Unless Theriot is the key to getting a good prospect from them, I was really liking the idea of Theriot for Johnson. It is the key to getting Dewitt. Would ARZ take Dewitt for Johnson?

it was the rockies last year that just destroyed our hopes of any type of come-back, after the break lst year we were starting to come around then we hit this series. I hate the Rockies. I am now thankful my wife had to work and we could make it to the game We always seem to have memorable games (for both good and bad reasons) against the Rockies. It seems like about 1 game a year between the 2 going all the way back to that crazy finish in 2001 has something memorable about it. -
james loney is a pretty bad hitting 1b. I always figured him as sort of a Mark Grace hitter, but after looking at that OPS... yikes! Although that could be hindered by playing in Dodger Stadium, but I don't know how much better it would be in Wrigley. Sands then, please.

If reports are right it seems that Hendry is trying to package Theriot in the Lilly deal with the Dodgers in order to get Dewitt back as part of the package. The Johnson thing probably is the back up plan if he can't get the Dodgers deal to work out. Either way I think he is motivated to deal Theriot since otherwise he would probably non tender him in the offseason and would then get nothing back for him except a lot of negative press about letting such a "gamer" go. Could we then maybe flip DeWitt for Johnson?

If the Cubs keep him they WILL offer him arbitration and we'd at least get draft pick compensation. I know that hasn't been Hendry's MO in the past but I don't think even he is stupid enough to let Lilly go for absolutely no return. Hopefully Ricketts wouldn't even allow him to do that. I've heard that he'd accept arb if offered.

It wouldn't shock me at all if we sat on a valuable trading chip and didn't move him, and then got absoultely nothing for him after he leaves in FA. It's the Cubs way.

Do the Dodgers have any 1B prospects that are close to ready? Either we could trade for one of them, or possibly get Loney in a deal to replace DLee next year. I'd be willing to pay all of Lilly's remaining salary. I realize this is an extreme longshot, before I get ripped to shreds. I know Loney is young and still pretty cheap so the Dodgers may not be willing to part with him.

Now, not really. But DeWitt is younger with more potential to improve. And we traded a future HOF'er to get Fontenot, so he's gotta be good, right?
