  1. It's a tough one. Maddux has been much loved, and having him basically finish his career back in Chicago helps. My Dad is a Cubs fan, and he's always liked how exclusive the retired #s are at Wrigley. It seems to be getting less exclusive. As a Cards fan looking at a Maddux # retirement, all I can think is that there's no retired # for Steve Carlton in St. Louis. He was a Philly. Maddux will always be a Brave in my mind.
  2. This pretty much sums up my thoughts on it. The BBW go back and forth almost every year on this. One year they name a winner because he lead his team to the playoffs. The next it seems based on stats alone. This year Howard and Pujols were so close that I thought it should have gone to the player whose team made the playoffs. Pujols has the right to express his thoughts on the MVP. He's won an MVP and he's the best player in baseball. In my book that makes him a qualified person to talk about it. I'm happy for Howard because he had a great year and seems to be a good guy. I think both of these guys could share the award for the next few years.
  3. I think the Cubs chances with that team would depend on what the Cardinals do this off season. Both teams have huge questions about thier starting pitching.
  4. My guess is that the Cardinals resign Weaver and Mulder. Suppan will get priced out once the bigger names like Zito fall off the board. Marquis will look awesome in Cubbie blue ;) Suppan is a good pitcher and has that "clutch" that gets thrown around. That said, he will not be worth the pricetag.
  5. That's a shame. I guess chicks aren't the only ones that dig the long ball. There's no doubt in my mind who the most valuable player in the NL was this year... Jeff Suppan!
  6. I think the right guy won. I would have voted: Webb Carp Oswalt Zambrano Hoffman was a surprise. Now if Pujols doesn't win MVP I'll be upset.
  7. Oh man. I love going back and reading threads like this. From both the Cub and Cardinal fan reaction. It's a funny funny game.
  8. Or because a good portion of those that live south of the Chicago Metro area are Cardinal fans. Being 100% serious here. I would guess that the majority of people in Illinois are not Cub fans. They "may" have the most fans of any baseball team, but the Cards would give them a run for it. The Sox fanbase is pretty much on the South Side and burbs of Chicago I figure.
  9. I agree that the GG is a joke most of the time. Rolen seemed to play his worst D vs. the Cubs this year. I still think he's a top notch fielder. Probably living on rep these days more than he should. Pujols was fantastic at 1st this year. That said, Lee is one of the best I've ever watched in person. It will probably go back his way next year if he stays healthy. My biggest protest is that Molina didn't get his first GG. Heck, he hit .216 this year. that should tell you something about his play in the field. Oh well. It's the MVP and Cy that I'm waiting for.
  10. There will always be people in Chicago that won't like a Bears coach because he's not Ditka. It's the same thing in St. Louis with Herzog. The more time passes, the better those coaches and managers become in our selective memory. The funny thing about it is that both men won ONE championship.
  11. HA. I'll try. It would be tough. My Dad really needs to see them win one. He's starting to get twitchy. btw, I see a lot of the new Dads around here asking if they should raise thier sons or daughters as Cubs fans. After 1969 my Dad moved to So. ILL and raised two sons as Cards fans. I thank him every day. ;)
  12. Thanks Cuse. We'll be saying the same to you in the next few years.
  13. I've been trying to figure out a way to post here and not sound like an $%#... For the first time as an adult my team has won the World Series. It really does close the wounds of past failures and dashed playoff dreams. I'm going to celebrate and enjoy every second of it. The Cubs ARE going to win a World Series. When they do, you folks will have more to celebrate than any other fans in the sport. I don't know if I could have stuck with them for the last 4 years, much less the past 98. When it happens I'll raise a beer and salute you. Not the Cubs, but the fans who deserve to feel just once in their life that they are a part of a championship. I know that this post will ring hollow, but I do mean it.
  14. That's the kind of play that usually happens to the Cardinals in the playoffs. I'll Take It!
  15. But they are there. Huge accomplishment by a gutsy team. They may just prove everyone wrong and win this thing. Everyone expects them to lose, and lose in 5 or less. That's a pretty low pressure way to go into a series.
  16. Or it could just be a good team playing good baseball at the right time. The Mets were also hurt and without a couple key players. Boo Hoo. The Cardinals have been hurt going into just about every playoff series since Vince got eaten by the Tarp...
  17. I think the Cardinals are gonna go to the World Series.
  18. Oh what a feeling. Go Dodgers. (Because I don't think the Cards can beat the Mets...)
  19. Neifi is on the juice?
  20. Just saw this. Thought you folks would think it's funny... http://static.flickr.com/54/153593968_985aab12f9_o.jpg
  21. Don't worry Otis. My Dad will call me tonight and say the same thing. It's not a fun time to be a Cub fan. Sorry. I really do feel for you folks.
  22. :pukel: this thread is a waste of time.
