  1. 99 regular season wins and a 11-1 record in the playoffs is not luck. You guys are starting to sound like.... Sox fans... I'm just waiting for one of you to say you'd rather see the Sox lose than the Cubs win. Then we'll know the transformation is complete. hey, i have no problem with the Sox i'm not a Sox-hater, they were the best team in the playoffs and deserved to win, but a lot of things went right for them last year that could easilly have gone the other way. Didn't mean to single you out Brian. I know you're a good baseball fan and poster. I just don't want to see Cub fans get bitter because the Sox had a great year. It'll happen for the Cubs. It has to. I want my Dad to see it.

I'm just waiting for one of you to say you'd rather see the Sox lose than the Cubs win. Then we'll know the transformation is complete. Anyone short of having a biblically superior team going 11-1 in the playoffs requires a lot of luck. Their pitching health and success was also "fortunate". I really don't care about the Sox that much, but much like the Nationals(until they collapsed) last year, it grates on me when their success is misconstrued. I know what you mean. This game does take things going your way sometimes. Luck in the right places can change the way a season goes. That said, every team has good and bad luck. The season is too long to not get some of both. I remember a lot of Cub fans telling Sox fans to worry about their team and not concern themselves with how the Cubs are doing. It seems like a lot of folks aren't taking their own advice.

  4. That would be horrible news. ...for the Cardinals. Happy April fools guys.
  5. And that is not a failure to communicate!
  6. Yes. That's true. Yup ...and cut your hair too!
  7. Lee would be a better outfielder than Pujols. Just adding to this out of control thread...
  8. Pujols started when he was what? 21. That's worked out pretty well. Morris was a rookie in 96 wasn't he? Molina? These people that rag on Tony for crap like this are just picking nits. 6 playoffs in 10 years is what counts to me.
  9. The problem with the trade deadline now is that almost every team still thinks they have a shot. Any team that's within 15 games of the division leader thinks they can do what the Astros have done the last two years. The handful of teams that know they don't have a shot either have teams full of young players and very few veterans so they don't have much to trade. The one or two teams that actually have a good bat or veteran "playoff" type pitcher end up asking way too much because they have 15-20 teams interested, and they end up not moving anyone. Huff would have been a perfect player to trade, but TB was asking for a front of the rotation starter and not a collection of prospects. We may see a few midlevel trades and maybe a single impact trade, but, I think the days of the bigtime deadline deals are pretty much gone. Such is life in baseball with the wildcard.
  10. It's the third place to be called Busch Stadium so the name should be Busch III. The old Sportsman's Park was called Busch Stadium in the late 50's and early 60's until the 'Cards moved to the concrete donut that was also called Busch Stadium. BTW: doesn't this look familiar? Washinton Nationals new place: http://washington.nationals.mlb.com/was/images/newpark/im_sw_aerial_581x388.jpg Proposed new Wrigley garage: http://www.wrigleyexpansion.com/images/1.jpg Wrigley hasn't looked that nice for 80 years. I hope they start doing a massive upgrade to the park. Not the field or the ivy. The ivy defines the park. But the rest of the place needs a serious facelift.
  11. I don't see what you guys are talking about. The interior is completely different. The bleachers, bullpens, scorboards and overall dimensions are different. The exterior couldn't be more different. GABP is all steel girders vs the brick of the New Busch. (not to mention Busch doesn't have riverboat smokestacks...) Yeah, they're both new. They both have baseball diamonds. Other than that I don't see the comparison. Do they need to put a swimming pool or a train in the outfield?
  12. I mean this seriously. Not as a jab. 100 million dollar payroll and a 4th place finish. Cub fans should be marching on the Trib Tower screaming for Hendry's head. He has made some outstanding trades but his free agent signings have been horrendous. The Kerry Wood and Maddux contracts are good examples. You can't plan around injuries, but that record has been played too much. The GM has to be held accountable at some point.
  13. I'm fat. I'm from Aruba. AND I'M PROUD!!!
  14. Yep, potshots at the other team. That's what we're all about here at NSBB. And racist remarks? What are you talking about? I'm not talking about anything specific. I'm just saying......... it's hard to deal with Cub fans here, because of the personal shots that they take. Okay. Pretty much false, but whatever. Let's all relax. It's a Cubs board. We need to remember that.
  15. Jacque Jones will bat .300/345/484 with 20 SB's and 35 HR's. See how easy it is to make ridiculous predictions. I didn't say he was going to have a sub 4.00 ERA or 200 Ks. I just said he would win 15 games. The Cardinals took a 1 million dollar risk on a pitcher that showed a lot of promise 3 years ago. A guy who has done some stupid things in his life that he may or may not have moved on from. Duncan has great track record with guys like this. If he's a bust, no big deal. But he's likely to have a 4.50-5.15 ERA. As good as the Cards' offense may be, I don't think it is potent enough to turn a 5.00 ERA pitcher into a 15-game winner. It isn't likely. It could happen, just as Jones could put up those numbers above. It just isn't very likely. Hey, Bottenfield won 18... I do think that St. Louis will be a good place for him to restart his career. It doesn't always happen (Tino Martinez) but plenty of guys have found themselves again for the Cards.

  17. Ponson will win 15 games this year.
  18. Looks good on paper to me. Of course that's why they play the games... Looks like Oakland and the Dodgers might be pretty good this year.
  19. Great! Now that several of the ownership group from the Cardinals have taken over in Cinci I don't have to watch G Dub throw out the first pitch in St. Louis anymore.
  20. Lidge is outstanding and everyone knows it, and Qualls looks to be a very solid set up man, but the Astros need Gallo and Wheeler to again pitch way over their head. Springer is absolutely nothing special. and bring that Astacio kid and his 23 HRs allowed in 100 innings work on. in other words, there is a huge potential for a complete bullpen disaster in Houston, especially with replacing Clemens's 211 innings with bottom of the rotation garbola. There's a huge potential for a complete bullpen disaster for every team. I'm convinced that bullpens are the hardest part of a ballclub to assemble. I remember a few 90s era Cardinal teams that were supposed to have great bullpens. They were great. Great at pouring gasoline on fires... My point is that I don't think anyone can predict middle relievers. Closers yes, but not the guys inbetween the starter and the 27th out.
  21. Good. Now, get to work on the rest of the city. PLEASE! No tax base...
  22. Looking great! That is going to be an awesome place to watch baseball. I can't wait to get down there for a few games this year. I hope it doesn't have too much of a shopping mall feel to it. It will take a few years to build some memories in the new place, but it looks like they've built a great place to showcase baseball and not distract people with swiming pools and toy trains.
  23. Somewhere in Arizona. -I haven't heard anything on sports radio here in Chicago-
  24. Not as green as you are with jealousy and envy Why would he be jealous? Pierre>Edmonds. Alsonotreally. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I know, not a fair comparison. If Pierre is the sparkplug Eck is for the Cards he will make a huge difference for the Cubs. But there's going to be a lot of people stretching doubles into triples with that arm. I don't really understand this. When the ball clears the fence isn't it a HR? With the injuries we have, and thus the staff we're forced to send out; Pierre will more than likely be watching the balls go way over his head. :( It won't be that bad. I think Williams is going to have a nice year. It's time for the youngsters to step up and make fans forget about Prior and Wood. Don't lose hope yet...
