  1. Lee's Career Al's Career' I love Derrek Lee as a player. That being said, your post is that of a crack head. Let's not be so hasty when Lee has had one great year. so, who do you think is better, carpenter or z? Oh boy, here we go... :D Carpenter won the Cy last year, and I would like him on the mound in any game. He is a fantastic pitcher and leader of a very underated staff. I would trade him for Z in a heartbeat because of age and raw talent.
  2. I'm down with that. That'd be a fashion item, though, surely? Heck, I might even wear one of those. :)
  3. IMB!, you hurt me. I thought we had something here. Ps. I love the Firefly avatar! Pss. Considering Pujols has started the All-Star game as a 3rd baseman, Outfielder and 1st baseman I would call him more than a DH. He can't pick it like D Lee, but he's not a liability in the field.
  4. My predictions 1. Cards 2. Brewers 3. Cubs 4. Astros 5. Pirates 6. Reds As always it's about health. Pujols wins MVP walking away in the new park. .330/52/130 Brewers keep it close till the end of August then the Cards pull away. Cubs stumble out of the gate, make a huge midseason charge, but it's not enough.
  5. why do so many new posters say that? The legend of Modzilla.
  6. Throw in Ohman and we'll think about it. But not until he loses his arb case!
  7. The Cardinals don't suck, but St. Louis does. That's why you live in Chicago, right? :D You got me. I love both towns. Chicago is my home now and I can't imagine living anywhere else!
  8. My 2 cents. Wear "your" teams stuff and don't worry about other teams. I've never worn a Completely Useless By September shirt. Cardinal fans that do should be ashamed. When I walk out of a Sox game to the "Let's Go Whitesox...Cubs Suck" chant I roll my eyes. Be a fan. Not an idiot. Oh yeah, My favorite is the "St. Louis Sucks" shirt. "Sucking all the way to first place." is my usual response.
  9. I'm not so sure. Ponson could be healthier since it's hard to miss time with pulled fat. I got $100 that says that pulled fat wins more games than Kerry Wood this year. Make it ERA+ and you might have a deal. Wins are a poor indicator of pitching performance. How about VORP since it takes in account the number of innings pitched? I say loser has to upload a high quality picture of himself in the oppositions hat. Oh and no defacing that hat either. You actually think Ponson will have a higher VORP than Wood. But how about a better bet. If Wood has a higher VORP you purchase me the Cubs hat of my choice, if Ponson has the higher VORP, I'll purchase you the Cards hat of your choice. Nah, what I really want you in my sig with a cards hat on. How about VORP with Millar and Poson? We should split this off to the rivalries section. We should come up with several friendly "bets" for the season. Card posters vs Cub posters. Speaking of, we doing fantasy baseball this year?

  11. 2001 Miller > 2005 Ponson 2006 Miller = Allen Benes
  12. I think it's all about adjustments. Lee altered his stance last year and it seemed that his second half went from scorching to just sizzling. He's the real deal, but I would expect slightly less this year. Of course Piere could change that with more rbi chances...
  13. I guess it's a good thing they won't try and make him the closer then.
  14. Because shoulder surgery is less of a problem for a pitcher than a 3rd baseman? As long as the Cubs keep counting on Kerry Wood to lead them to the post season I'll predict another team to win the division.
  15. This may be a first. I agree with Vance on just about every point. Very good post. I also see Wood as the wildcard in the division. His health could be the difference between 1st and 4th for the Cubs.
  16. I live in fear of the mighty Modzilla every day of my life.
  17. I hear the Cards are going to counter the Grissom signing by going after Otis Nixon. ....ducks...
  18. Hey folks, as a Cardinals fan living in Chicago take this for what it's worth. Reasons the Cubs should feel safe as the #1 baseball team in town: -Location. Being on the North side offers several things the Sox can't. Point blank, it's fun to go to Cub games. -Media. The Cubs can influence the public because 2 of the major outlets here share ownership with the Cubs. -Diehard Fans. It takes a lot to be a Cubs fan. People like my Dad will never root for another team. Wrigley- It's a shrine. Reasons the Cubs should feel threatened: Product on the field. Despite a 100 million dollar payroll, the continue to be a middle of the pack team. The casual fan will tire of this. The Sox are building to win and win for several years. Region. The Sox aren't the only team around Chicago. The Brewers are on the upswing too. Fans that are between the two towns may start choosing to go north. Race. The Sox are VERY popular with the Latino population of Chicago. You may roll your eyes, but Chicago's latino population is HUGE. Cable/Sat TV and the Internet. 20 years ago millions of people became Cub fans because of the national reach of WGN. Much like the Cards and KMOX. With the internet and the ability to watch pretty much any team you want on TV it's easy to pick whatever team you want. I'm not railing on the Cubs, I just believe that for the casual fan it may be easier to root for other teams.
  19. I had no idea he was even playing anymore.
  20. Kenny W. is flat out getting the job done. I know that there is a lot of Sox hate on the forum, but you have to admit that they're not acting like a second tier team anymore.
  21. This has been my thinking all along and why I have waited to call Hendry names for trading away Prior. I have thought and still think that Tejada isn't likely to go anywhere, but if he does, the Hendry/Stockstill connection will go a long way towards bringing Tejada to the Cubs. I think the crux of the deal is Prior for Tejada. Thinking that pulling Prior out of the deal can still land you Tejada is like an Os fan thinking they can get Prior without giving up Tejada. It just isn't going to happen. I think this trade is going to die on the vine. In the end it will be Hendry's defense when the Cubs can't create runs next year. He'll say he tried to inject life into the lineup but the cost was too high.
  22. FYI Per Derrick Goold http://www.stltoday.com/blogs/sports-bird-land/2005/12/womack-grud-junior-spivey-deciding/
  23. I just don't know what to say... This is going to be an interesting season.
