  1. Leo Mazzone? Not even close. Leo is amazing. No doubt. But Dunc has been pretty fantastic with pitchers that have come from other teams. Developing home grown talent has been the only real knock on him. My memory may be off, but I seem to remember as many failed pitchers as successful ones in St. Louis in recent years. Pitching wins, and the Cards have won with Dunc as the pitching coach. But you're right to an extent. For evey Carpenter and Morris, they're is a Stephenson and Simontachi.

  3. On paper (and we all know what that means...) it gives the Cards a 1-5 that should run with any team in the NL. Carp/Burnett/Mulder/Suppan/Reyes (Marquis turns into a trade for sure if this is true.) It's all about health. Another thing I am wary of is that Burnett has always been much less effective away from Pro Player. From what I'm seeing on the new digs in St. Louis, that's gonna be a heck of a pitchers park. The power alleys are deep deep deep. May have been a factor in the signing. If it is true...

  5. believe it when I see it... early reports, that's all this is.
  6. Now THAT is the kind of reaction I expect around here! :D It's all fun till a redneck pokes a frat boy in the eye with his mullet. As long as the insults are evenly spread out I'm cool. ;)
  7. 3 year 17 Mil http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2245182 edit: Yeah, just saw the other thread... Sorry.
  8. Yes, the Cards #1 negotiating tactic is the lure of Mullets. Not that we're making any broad sweeping generalizations about the population of an entire city or anything... Playing for a winning team that is offering fair market value has nothing to do with it. Of course they only win because they're "lucky".
  9. ...if this is true. 5 years 55mil. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Baseball/MLB/Toronto/2005/11/29/1328885-sun.html
  10. Wha! Huh? What do you mean? No one told me about a fire sale! poor guy. i feel for him.
  11. He's a great bench guy. Good pinch hitter, and you can play him all over the place. I think Tony even had him as the emergency catcher last year. He'll win you 3-5 games a year with a big hit or a defensive play. I'd hate to see him leave St. Louis (again)...
  12. The Cards have awesome uniforms. except for the unfortunate powder blues of the 80s...
  13. Like the avatar :) and that's the story I've heard. i think he's be a great DH for the Sox. They shouldn't give up McCarthy, and they still need to sign Paulie.
  14. Way to go Albert!!!! What could have been... 2005 Cardinals MVP Cy Young Last Year at Busch World Seri.... oops
  15. I have a feeling that the Cards and Sox may trade one crazy lefty for another. King for Marte.
  16. I personally do not think so. High K low OBP kinda similar to Burnitz. I say heck no. He's real similar to Burnitz. ...A great #6 hitter if you're rounding out your team. He's not a centerpiece player. That said, I like both of their attitudes.
  17. He's gonna look good hitting in front of Albert next year ;) I do realize I've just jinxed the Cards from ever signing him...
  18. Reggie is a great #6 hitter if you're rounding out your team. He's not a centerpiece player.
  19. Way to go Carp!!! (and I just got a $25 bonus for having him on my fantasy team!)
  20. That would do it IMO. Pretty close to what the Cards gave up for Mulder. Of course Mulder still had 2 years on his deal at the time.
  21. Who are the Cards going to trade for Giles? The stud AAA pitchers didn't fare to well this year. And the system otherwise is barren of talent. Funny how we hear the same old record every year. The Cardinals don't have any talent to trade.... What? They just traded for _________. I'm not saying that the Cards have the richest farm system in the majors, far from it, but Walt seems to make things happen with what they do have.
  22. I don't want to pee in anyone's Wheaties, but I can see the Cards signing Brian Giles and then making a move for little bro. It's the kind of big move that Walt would do to move the team into the new park. As a Birds on the Bat fan that would be awesome.
  23. This is turning into my favorite NSBB thread of all time. :D
  24. Dang! The Cubs look like they had a near dynasty in the 30s.
