  1. Vance, Now that my regular season banner is going to be retired, do you want me to whip up a Champion banner for you?
  2. The Cards "should" win the NL. It never seems to work out that way, so I'll stay guarded in my optimism. They may have lost Reyes from the pen, and that would be a huge hit. That leaves Ray "gasoline" King as the only lefty. I'm picking LAA as the AL team to get in. I picked them at the All-Star break, so I don't see any reason to change now. St. Louis Houston White Sox LAA St. Louis LAA St. Louis in 6
  3. Yeah there isn't one this year, meaning that there will be as many celebrations outside Wrigley as there will be Cardinal World Series victory celebrations outside Busch this year. Zing! Guess I asked for that one...
  4. When is the celebration outside Wrigley? ...oh, that's right.
  5. Cute! Amy, you have to win that boy over and save him a lifetime of pain!
  6. This is what happens when you have 6 weeks of wondering who you're going to play in Oct. I'm not saying that I want it to come down to the last weekend, but it does leave us fans a lot of spare time to knash our teeth.
  7. Neither do the Cubs. The Cubs are not a bad organization. They have a lot of very good parts that just don't fit together.
  8. ding ding ding.. We have a winner.
  9. I give you Prior. His injury(s) were fluky... But everyone knew that Kerry Wood would only start 20 games max this year. Expecting him to start more than half a season is just wishing on good luck. The Cubs can't continue to hang post season hopes on him. When Jason Stark had his preseason predictions he said the Cubs would win the division if Wood, Prior and Z all started 30+ times. That's when I started feeling pretty good about the Cards chances.
  10. Now that I'll agree with. We could have matched or bettered either offer and still not taken a big hit with our young players. Especially for Mulder. We should have at least made a few offers for Mulder in order to drive the price up for the Cardinals. Sometimes you don't have to trade for the player... just make the other guys pay too much. Disagree here, what major league ready pitcher and stud hitting prospect could the Cubs have countered with (especially that weren't lined up for a big payday)? Cards paid too much with this trade as it was. I was thinking the same thing. What was it Barton, Calero, and Haren? We would have had to trade Pie, someone like Hill, then add mitre and probably another minor league arm to even come close to matching that. Anyone else find it awesome that the A's appear to have killed the cards in that trade? Haren has had a better year than Mulder in my mind. If Mulder comes up big in the playoffs and the Cards win the World Series, I'd go back and trade 100 Harens and Caleros... It's the hardest of lines to walk in baseball. WIN NOW! .... but don't forget about the future.
  11. It'll always be SWMS to me ;)
  12. Just like I do before the Dawgs get thumped in the 1AA playoffs ;) They're ranked 2nd in the country! And you should know that us SIU grads don't spell so good sometimes...
  13. Neifi, Macias, Rusch & Co. owed it to the league though, to try their darndest, and I think they did. Yes they did. Injuries hit again and the bench did the best they could. I just get torked up when people start talking about the Cards laying down at the end of the year.
  14. Chicago lays down -- again For the second straight year, the Chicago Cubs failed to even make it an interesting pennant race... Discuss
  15. Ryno's end of year awards. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AoqC3jrqtpM4IWxKUP2QNL4RvLYF?slug=rs-nlawards092805&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
  16. The Cubs' 10 and 6 record against the Cards this year could be coloring Prior's judgement. Very true. And the Cubs played some of their better baseball against the Cards as well. The team that most everyone has seen the last 3 or so months shouldn't be the one we see in the playoffs. I can't think of many games where the Cards have started what will be the playoff team so far. Knowing Tony, we'll only see it a few times anyway because he'll find matchups he likes and start some of the bench guys.
  17. That's the simple way to state it, and you are right. However, how far ahead (or behind) would the Cardinals be if Rolen was healthy all year (keeping Walker's and Sanders' injuries), but Carpenter missed as much time as Wood did and Mulder missed the equivalent of Prior? Dal, you always make good points, but injuries are one place that you can't say the Cards have been lucky this year. Yes, the starting staff has been healthy, but like Prior said, they're not very good anyway. ;)
  18. I thnk Morris is gone. It wouldn't surprise me to see them bring Grudz and Reggie back. The big free agent move could ne Brian Giles. He fits the team, and I think they'll look to get one big FA name for the opening of the new stadium. If they go deep into the playoffs, the money should be there. I'm at a loss for a Lefty reliever, but those guys seem to shake themselves out by springtime. I think the Cubs will make a big push for Damon and Wagner. Just a guess. Millwood is an interesting, but I think next year will be Rich Hill's year to be the #5.
  19. Mark seems to have figured it out. The only difference between the 2 clubs was that the Cardinals caught the ball, hit the ball and pitched the ball better. Other than that they were pretty much the same...
  20. And always start on the road, and always have that stupid friggin "Monday-Wednesday-Thursday" series. I HATE THAT! I could be wrong, but I believe the reason the Cubs always start on the road is weather. The league likes to give the Northern teams an extra week for Spring to kick in. Cincy isn't that much warmer than Chicago though. It's pretty northernly(word?) in it's own right. But it's tradition (one that hasn't been followed of late) Cincy is supposed to be the first game played every year. It was this way until the Yankees or Sawx had to go to Japan or Mexico to make the first of 85 ESPN games... Rant over.
  21. Raisin, come to the dark side with me. You'll enjoy it. We'll go to a playoff game together! ;)
  22. All apologies. Your first post looked (to me) like it was simply there to show your signature. Carry on. Oh yeah, I "was" bragging about that... till I got my butt whopped last week ;)
  23. Thanks DJAXX. I knew this would confuse people...
  24. Love Lou Barlow! http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000000SP.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
  25. Trolling? Yeah, I'm trolling...
