  1. The thing that is most disturbing to me is the part where he asked the bar manager where he could get some cocaine. The alcohol is one thing, but going back down that road again is definitely not going to end well.
  2. I get that Koyie Hill needs a break, I really do, but I don't trust Fox catching Dempster making his 2nd start off the DL. I really don't. I also don't think Piniella wants to do that. I know it would be a inconvienence to Iowa, but getting a guy like Chris Robinson up to relive Hill for at least 2 games in Cincinnati is prolly a better deal for the Cubs then having Fox masquerading as a C. Hill has made it this far, he can make it a few more games. Soto will be back by Thursday and then Hill can get all the rest he needs.
  3. I sure hope you feel better after flexing your message board muscles. It must be nice sitting back on a keyboard singling people out like you are "all that". Being "all that" on a message board in the grand scheme of things is the equivalent of playing solitaire at the kitchen table. You are the man. If you are going to be allowed to flap your mouth on here about others than I'll flap mine back. I could say the same about the triumvirate of you, Dextermorgan & derwood. A trio of message board hero's. Wrigley23 - honestly I can't really say I see the similarity in the behavior and/or posting tendencies of those 3 people you mention.
  4. The Phillies have the best lineup. I read that to mean the best possible Cubs lineup.
  5. The homeless shelter called and wants to know why you are not over there.
  6. Yes, but that was on a minor league contract, so it wasn't an option. Now that he's been added to the 40-man roster he'd have to use an option to be sent down, and he doesn't have one. Therefore he'd have to clear waivers in order to be sent down. He is also the only reliable back up SS and Lou seems to like him so they will probabaly try to keep him around and send down players that have options (Fuld, Hoff, Baker, Stevens, etc) until the rosters expand. It would be nice if they could find a taker for Miles or let him stay in AAA all month but at this point neither of those seems likely. A bench of Hill, Blanco, Fox, Miles, Baker is not exactly awe inspiring but it may have to do for a couple weeks once Soto and Miles are back. Just DFA Miles and keep Hoffpauir Seems like the right move but I just don't see Hendry doing it when Miles is still owed so much on his contract.

  8. Fuld caught the team charter before it left for Florida and Atkins goes back down. Good couple of days for him, hopefully it helps his confidence and gets him back on track. He seemed like he was going to be a good prospect before he got destroyed in AAA this year. If the rumors are right and Gorz is going to start Tuesday then I assume Shark goes back down to to the rotation in AAA to make room to make room. The roster crunch is coming. Miles and Soto are going to finish their minor league rehab stints soon so that means two guys have to go. With Lou being insistent on 12 pitchers I am thinking it will be Blanco and Fuld. Could be Hill if they trust Fox to catch (doubtful) or Hoff if they think they can get by without a LH pinch hitter for a couple weeks. Thankfully they are within a month of rosters expanding so they won't have to deal with the short bench for too long.
  9. With Lilly due back in a couple weeks Gorz or Marshall to the rotation seems a bit like a moot point since either one is going to lose that spot after a 2 or 3 starts anyway. Probably just as soon let Marshall stay in the pen where he has been very effective. Since he is no longer the only lefty Lou will actually use him for extended outings instead of for partial innings so with him, Guzman, Marmol and Gregg the Cubs will be in good shape closing out games. Wonder what this means for BJ Ryan since I doubt the Cubs would want to go to three LH relievers in the pen.
  10. Can anyone on the roster play CF other than Fukudome? If so I wonder if they use this as the opportunity to bring back Miles without having to send Castro down. I don't see any way that Hendry releases Miles after giving him that contract but they also can't realistically make him stay in AAA for another month until rosters expand.
  11. I think it is really more a case of him being rested and on the 40 man roster. The Cubs probably also wanted to see better how his stuff was against MLB hitters because I am sure with how he has struggled this year they are at least giving some consideration to taking him off the 40 man roster. Personally I think they should have just sent Samardzija down instead of Berg and then today they would have had Berg available along with Gregg and Marmol who did not pitch yesterday (Gregg actually hasn't pitched since Sunday). Marshall had pitched 3 days in a row but only 11, 3 and 17 pitches so I would hardly say he had been taxed, so I am not sure what the big crisis was.
  12. I really think that move is going to be the one that gives Baltimore what it takes to move to the top of the AL East.
  13. Hopefully, he's done in the rotation. With the off day Thursday, the Cubs can skip Hart next time through the rotation. With any luck, Dempster will be ready to go the next time the Cubs need a 5th starter on July 28th. If not, I'd probably rather have Szamardzija start anyway. If Lou is not going to use Szmardzija in any meaningful situations out of the bullpen then they would be just as well letting him start. He certainly looked better in his 3 innings today then Hart. Once Dempster is back they should send Szmardzija back to AAA as a starter to work on improving and just let Hart be the mop up long reliever. The only reason it makes sense for Szmardzija to be up here is either to start or if he is going to have a key role in the bullpen and be effective like he was late last season. To let him languish out there with sporadic work in blowout games doesn't make much sense.
  14. In the big picture it definitely deserves to be filed in the "who cares?" drawer but it is kind of funny how defensive some people get when any mistake by him is mentioned. Jeff Gordon was pretty universally panned for calling it Wrigley Park or whatever and he at least had the excuse of no real history of being a Cubs fan and of not being from the Chicagoland area.
  15. In fairness to Hoffpauir, he was a bit of a late bloomer but is only 29 right now so it's not like he is some old guy they finally decided to promote. Even Bobby Scales is only 31. In prospect terms, 29 is some old guy. Even if he plays until hes 35, he'll only have a 6 year major league career. Maybe a little old, but you said Ridling might be a "Hoffpauir type" and finally make it "to the bigs in his late 30's". 29 is quite a bit earlier than his late 30's. It not like he is Jim Morris or something.

  17. Get your head out of the spreadsheets Joe. Just out of curiosity what were those "other" stats that were so impressive? Was one of them the "he plays for my team" stat? Because I think you have a hard time justifying the Pena selection other than with one of the oldest counting stats around, HR's. If we are going by OPS then Branyan, Dye, and Cabrera are all ahead of him and and doing better in almost all areas excepts HR's. Better for him just to admit it was a homer pick and not act like he made some great statistical anaylsis.
  18. Wow, that's an incredibly nice thing to do. Kudos to Z. Of course the fact that he got to match up with Lohse instead of possibly being against Wainwright who is more likely to shut down the Cubs offense and hang Z with a tough luck loss probably didn't seem too bad either. But maybe I am just being cynical....
  19. What channel? ESPN2 has the 2008 Future's Game on now but that is all I can find unless I am missing it somewhere.
  20. They also said that Victor Zambrano was in the Cubs rotation so take anything you hear on BBTN with a grain of salt.
  21. You would think that Kinsler would have been the obvious choice to replace Pedroia. I guess both all star managers used the position to get in their own slugging 1B that probably don't really deserve to be there. MLB also probably wanted Pena for the home run derby so they may have encouraged it.
  22. apparently, lebron ordered the tapes destroyed. it's a good thing he won his first title last season, because you don't get away with these things if you don't have at aleast one ring. I thought we were all supposed to be witnesses?
  23. Yeah, Dan Haren sucks too.
  24. They could give up that silly notion and just send Hart and Shark down. Has either really been any better than Patton?
  25. You must be thrilled to have Peavy on your favorite baseball team and Hedo on your favorite basketball team. Life is good, huh?
