    If the Cubs can win game three, I'm confident they'll win game 4. Sadly, I have little confidence in the Cubs winning game 5. They'll drag this series on just long enough to suck a little more life out of me.

    Just saw the Mike Greenberg piece. Once--just once--it would be nice if ESPN gave a microphone to a typical Cubs fan and let that person do a story on the Cubs. The media's perception is so vastly different from the average Cub fan it's gone from laughable to disgusting. I think this is why people have a general disregard for the media. No one does their friggin' homework anymore. Let's make a good story rather than tell people how it really is.

    If the Cubs win tonight, I wouldn't at all be surprised if the Cubs skipped Ted Lilly's scheduled start on Sunday, even if they lose on Saturday. I think he'll take his chances that the Cubs will win the division on a Brewer's loss. Should it come down to a one-game playoff, Lilly would be the guy to go to. But again, all this hinges on the Cubs winning tonight.

    That's the playoff roster I hope to see, too. Except that it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Craig Monroe take the place of either Felix Pie or--gulp--Matt Murton. And Kevin Hart might get bumped for Will Ohman. Though I'd rather have Hart as a long guy out of the pen if/when Jason Marquis' start goes only two innings.

    I could give a rat's behind what other people think about my baseball team. Why should you care? And why would you want to market 100 years of futility? I'm with the sizeable crowd who believes this is an incredibly stupid thread.

    Yeah, that would stink. I wanted the Man too and I wonder if the OF is as bad as Dunn said. I don't remember any Cub OF's complaining about it. I have heard either Pat or Len say that the Cubs are way overdue for a complete resurfacing of the field, however. Really? Then they better do it this off season then. I hope this ownership thing doesn't stop them from doing it. People have mentioned in another thread that the field renovation might be put on hold this offseason because of the team being bought.     I listened to part of the game on the radio and it sounded as if the fans were chanting "H-G-H" every time Ankiel stepped to the plate. It doesn't surprise me that a guy who had "mental problems" and suddenly couldn't throw strikes would now buckle under the pressure of the controversy.

    Well put! Dempster's only "problem" is that when he blows a save, he goes all out. As many have already pointed out, it's the offense. Way too many blown scoring chances.

    Anyone else having issues with Comcast SportsNet Chicago? It keeps showing the text "Channel 1 not available." And about every minute or so the picture comes in for about a second and goes away, only to be replaced by the text again.

    The total condescension in your post aside, yes, I do believe just about everyone who posted in this thread knows the difference. And if you take into account the game situation, you'd better be in a straight steal mode.

    I think it was the right call, too. I think the likelihood of Jason Kendall grounding into a double play was much higher than him striking out. If Kendall just gets a bat on the ball, we wouldn't be talking about it.

    I think if you followed any other baseball team as much as you followed the Cubs, you'd find questionable managerial moves. Probably a lot of them. The mistakes Piniella makes are more glaring to you because you probably know the perceived strengths and weaknesses of the Cubs more than players on other teams. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a fan who believes the manager of his or her favorite team makes the "right" move even 80% of the time.

    This is nothing to get riled up over. First of all, the suspensions are based on precedence. That's why Lee got five games and Fielder three. Second, the Cubs and Lee decided not to appeal his five game suspension after Lee fouled a ball off his foot. He was probably going to miss two to three games anyhow, so the Cubs just decided then and there to have Lee serve the suspension rather than miss games from the injury, then miss more because of the suspension.

    That the Cubs traded for Craig Monroe isn't really something to get all worked up about. What we should really worry about is Monroe playing well for the Cubs for the next six weeks and suddenly getting a two year, six million dollar offer from Hendry in the off-season.

    It's bad enough that he's asked for a temporary restraining order to stop the broadcast of baseball games and all the defendants in the lawsuit. But did he have to drag the defendant's pets into this, too?

    I know I love when he gets like that. He's a goof and can be annoying at times, but he's in his element when this type of craziness occurs. I'll have to check out Baseball Tonight. He--or anyone else, for that matter--can be excused for their behavior about this game. Thing about it... 30 RUNS! 30!!! Chances are we'll never see it again.
