  1. They made a serious mistake getting rid of Tubby. Tubby wasn't pulling in top-level talent. And I don't think they got rid of him. Didn't he leave?
  2. Steve Lavin makes me laugh
  3. Thompson went from keeping the 'Cats alive in the beginning of the half with three big baskets to committing three very costly turnovers under full-court and half-court pressure. whatever happened to the other michael thompson? He looked promising in his debut against DePaul late in the non-conference season in 2004 (I think). After that, he looked more like a McDonalds employee than a McDonalds All-American. He left the team early during the following non-conference season and stayed on campus to get his degree. I'm not sure anyone has really heard from him since. he was either a gigantic waste of talent or completely overhyped. maybe a bit of both. The McD's selection is no longer about the best players. Don't get me wrong, most of them belong. But there are always 2-4 guys on the roster who shouldn't be, and I can only assume it's about politics. To be fair, Hinrich was what, a soph and about 150 lbs? Hinrich ended up the better player.
  4. So was Joe Alexander a big recruit? I know nothing about him, but he's been insane at the end of the season.
  5. I didn't know it was possible to reanimate corpses.

  7. gordon is ridiculous tonight
  8. Pac-10 really wants UCLA to get that one seed
  9. Has he improved or has he just got more minutes and developed a rep, getting him more foul calls? He handles the ball a lot better than he did in college. But I think every other facet of his game has either regressed, or stayed the same. He averaged 35.6 minutes his rookie year which is also his career average so he hasn't gotten that many more minutes. He's added as many as 4.6 PPG more than his rookie year, dropped his TO/G by as much as 0.4 and has an increased his FG% by as much as .62%. In all 3 categories, he's still better this season than he was his rookie year. His APG has dropped steadily (but not too drastically) from his rookie year on. I wish I could get his PER numbers from before this season. Well his assists should go down this year. We have no inside scorer. Gordon has slumped. Deng has missed a lot of time. I guess the main thing that hurts Hinrich is the other guys in the draft being so good. Sucks we got the pick we did that year. He's still having his worst year since his rookie year. Of course so are Gordon and Deng. In terms of that draft, it did suck picking that low. At least it wasn't a case of Roy or Aldrige vs. Thomas. Hinrich was the best pick that year (ignoring trading possibilites, of course). At that time yeah. But I sure would rather have David West or Josh Howard now. The thing that's always driven me nuts about him (Kirk) is consistency. And this could be one of those BS, observational evaluations like "hustle," and if it is, please call me on it. But he seems so hit or miss to me, and he seems like a guy where, if he misses his first 2 shots, you know he'll have a 2-10 night. Like I said, that's a BS, statistically invalid, incorrect observation. That's just how it feels. I think he'd be better in a place where his scoring was "gravy." I also think it hurt him to be shuffled back and forth between 1-2. He's just doesn't have the skill-set to be a viable 2 IMO.
  10. 2 seed in the west? no thanks.
  11. my brother said he heard "2-3 weeks" on the radio. Anyone else catch this?
  12. Yeah we had 6 guys on our team get NBA time. They had 0. Maybe Self should have done a better job coaching our team all year so we could have had a higher seed I guess. But, still we were far superior to them. You guys were young, they were hot from 3, IIRC. It happens. Don't get me wrong, I have complaints about Self. He coached the Bucknell season terribly, IMO. And he's too adamant against the zone when I think it can sometimes (Beasley type games) make it much easier to win.
  13. that ND was still just one seed below you, right?
  14. There is a lot of luck. But, besides when he was at Tulsa, has Self ever beat a higher seed in the NCAA tournament? He sure didn't at UI and I don't think he has at KU either. I hate the higher seed argument. When you're consistently a 1-4 seed, you either aren't playing higher seeds or are when you are, they're damn good teams. Is losing to 1, 2, or 3 seeds really that egregious? No. The fact UI fans still bitch about losing to a Arizona team that was clearly better is laughable. Meanwhile, Bruce Weber needed a miracle finish to get past a lower-seeded Arizona in his championship run, and he's hailed as some kind of sideline genius.
  15. snood, this is my view of KU that I posted on another board: yeah, you've said as much before, and I think it's silly, so there's not much point in arguing it.
  16. Digger Phelps has a boner here. Guaranteed.
  17. In a heartbeat. I just don't see it happening anymore. Meh. If a team wants him they will still need to give Hendry fair value. He is under contract so the Cubs can always just keep in the pen as a mop up reliever / spot starter instead of give him away for nothing. A "you take my problem, we take yours" trade with Boston of Marquis for Crisp, however, would seem to look more likely. But I think Hendry has been looking to move him all offseason so this new development probably doesn't change his plans much. You would think Baltimore would want him in the Roberts package (maybe to help the Cubs offset Payton's salary). They seem to love Tracshel and Marquis is actually a step up from him at this point (sad as that may be). This is exactly right. There have been scouts through spring training already, and they've formed opinions on Marquis and others and have voiced them to their organizations. This little tempest really doesn't change anything as far as trade value goes. Disagree. Regardless of what a scout reports to his boss, a player's trade value generally goes down when he makes an outburst like this. I think people are overreacting. It might have a minor effect. But assuming he's already been on the trading block, it won't effect it substantially. The only way I see this dictating his value in any substantial way is if the Cubs started shopping him now, after the statement.
  18. It's only the very tip of his finger, they claim. just the tip?
  19. Here's a shot of Erin Andrews at the KU game last night. I love the guy to the right doing the "Lean back, check ass" move. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v604/snoodmonger1/_H9G3761A.jpg
  20. I know how you feel, I've rooted for the Hornets since they were in Charlotte and there were some bleak years. Aside from the '85 Bears and the Jordan Bulls, no team of mine has won a championship while I've been a fan of them. Those Bulls championships feel like ancient history right now.
  21. The Bulls were controlling the game at the start of the 4th. They look like a totally different team now.
  22. i don't even know how to do that. i've never been able to get anything in with my tuner, and it should be pretty strong. My set-up is weird. I have cable, but I don't think I can get HD feeds with it. Even if it could, I have it jerry rigged to run through my computer so I can "Tivo" stuff. And after building a 6 point lead, Bulls fade away.
  23. Haha, I'm using the broadcast signal with an HD antenna.
  24. agree on thabo. I like him, and would like to see him get a shot. And I'm getting an HD broadcast of the game on the reg network. Is it in HD for you? Take that anytime you want Varajao.
