But that's not the question. That's an easy choice. The question is: Guaranteed WS appearance with a loss or Who knows? Whatever happens, happens. Maybe they win it all. Maybe they finish last.

I'll take a chance at winning the whole thing (with an equal chance of missing the post-season altogether) over getting there and a guaranteed loss. I'll derive no joy from simply seeing us in the series. I want to win it.

I'm sure this topic has been done before, and I'm sorry for that. But I just recently got into a discussion about the DH and was shocked to find I was the only one in the group who dislikes it. (Full disclosure: I was the only fan of a national league team in the group.) But I was wondering, am I in the minority on this now? So are you a fan of the DH? Please tell me why or why not.

It will continue until MLB umpires are held accountable for their calls on the field. Not the worst call ever, though. That would probably be the call at 1st base in the 1985 World Series with Dane Iorg. I'm pretty sure that was Don Denkinger. He's definitely the one. He still gets death threats from Cards fans. As for the Braves one, the 1st baseman's body language is pretty hilarious. He masked it pretty well, but you can tell he's shocked, too. ETA: I love the announcers reactions, too.

I am driving to lawrence on May 9th to see him pitch. Can't wait. That probably won't be pretty for the Jayhawks. Mizzou has a good program, is KU any good? No, not really. I think they're about 5 games over .500 overall and well below .500 in conference. ETA: 25-18, 5-10. Mizzou will put us in a clown suit. For the record, we played UI (and lost) this year, too.

Cap is dead. He's out of the running. Really? Yep. Marvel did this run called Civil War. The government passed a Superhero Registration Act, and it split the heroes into two factions. Iron Man led the pro-gov, pro reg faction. Captain America refused to help and ultimately became the leader of the opposition group. A lot of stuff went down, including the death of a marginal superhero at the hands of Iron Man's forces. Anyway, blah blah blah, the two sides eventually meet in a titanic clash, and as Cap is about to ice Iron Man, he looks around and realizes this Super War is hurting the common man, so he stands down. He was then arrested (everyone else got amnesty), and after the court hearing, he was assassinated. I think his sidekick might be posing as him now, but Steve Rogers, the real Cap, is gonzo. They'll probably drum up a way to bring him back in a few years.

That argument has never made any sense to me. You don't have to have experienced something to be able to discuss it. It's like Joe Morgan's "he never played the game, so he can't truly know" spiel. It's dumb. Even if your dumb premise was right, you still need white people to enter the race discussion. I mean, how can you expect to fix the problem by cutting white people from the discussion? Absurd.

I find this pretty stupid and unfunny, but I can think of things that are worse. I wish people would have a little more respect for other cultures and just not buy them, though. (Not aimed at snoodmonger) Not quite as unfunny as the shirts themselves are all the pompous or downright violent reactions provoked by them. Faux outrage is not awesome. I'm not crazy about real outrage either when it is a reaction to t-shirts. Where did I say there was nothing worse? I said it was indefensible. That's not an exaggeration. Want to know what really sucks? (Not aimed at sarcastic) Lame people who think they can ascertain "faux outrage" on a message board. I also don't care for people who are willing to casually brush aside blatantly offensive stuff. As for casually brushing it aside, what would you have me do? If I write out an angry post on an internet message board, am I helping anyone? They aren't hurting anybody, they are just being idiots, so I don't see the point in getting angry. If others want to, they are free to do so. I guess I take issue with this mentality. Your base argument is that it is somehow better to do nothing than to do something. Or, at the least, they are of equal value. I'm not going to sit here and pretend me (or anyone else) condemning racism on a message board is going to effect any great change. But it's certainly not hurting anyone. And it's possible it could help in a small way. For example, let's say someone here hadn't considered the implications of the shirt and was considering buying one. If he stumbled across this thread, maybe he thinks twice. More importantly, though, I think perhaps the most important thing one can do to combat racism and prejudice is to denounce it and denounce it vocally. Do some people take it too far? Maybe. Are some people guilty of faux outrage. I'm sure they are. But I'm willing to risk that because I think to ignore instances of prejudice is to come dangerously close to endorsing them.
