  1. This really isn't a surprise. They're getting zero signage inside, so I figured we'd see a big-ass sign outside.
  2. The outdoor seats benefit from grid-style heaters in the ceiling. I don't know how well they work, though; I was up there in the summer.
  3. They had a whole offseason to work with ... how did they manage to not replace all the seats? The green on blue looks ridiculous.
  4. I hated the bastards long before last year's abortion of a season.
  5. You'll rarely see a clean, orderly newspaper office. Most dailies I've seen are dumps.
  6. Yep.
  7. The park looks great, in spite the naysayers' claims of doom heard upon this project's announcement. There really is no downside to this. The care with which the bleacher project was done gives me great hope that the additional changes in the works will be just as successful.
  8. The current situation could actually serve as a negative for the gum company - for many, the mention of the Wrigley name conjures images of baseball instead of chewing gum.
  9. So long as the Doublemint Twins are kept off the scoreboard, I don't think the Wrigley Field name is doing the gum company much good. There's no "Wrigley Gum" - it's all Freedent, Doublemint, Extra, etc.
  10. Thanks for ruining my day.
  11. I'm sure he'll be fine. No way could we be THAT lucky.
  12. Worst manager in the bigs. Period.
  13. That's an insult to Boston. There was more interest/respect for Florida and Arizona. Both won exciting Series and had several marketable, bonafide stars. The White Sox won a snoozer of a Series and nobody knew/knows who they are. Here we sit just days from the opener, just days from the Sox hoisting their championship pennant, and no one is talking about it nationally. The Sox crushed MLB's ratings in October, and they're going to do it again Sunday night.
  14. Quoted for truth. Just abysmal. I was actually angry after the game. Just getting ready for April 3 ...
  15. http://brockfan20.50megs.com/images/stadium_10.jpg The park was designed with Busch I in mind. http://www.ballparksofbaseball.com/past/sportsman86.jpg It's a faint resemblance, but the lineage is there. I think the details at Busch III — steelwork, scoreboard, facade — far surpass those seen at GAPB. If not for the red seats and green walls, I don't think one could visually connect the two designs so easily. I see nothing in common between the DC park and the preceding new age yards. The DC height restrictions alone ensured a unique look for the Nationals' new home, which resulted in the pancake look of its roof.
  16. I don't understand why TPTB feel that TV time would be harder to come by around the first of November. Basketball has things much more crowded at this time of year. I picked up Deportes just for the WBC. It's been worthwhile, as they've aired many games live that were relegated to tape delay on the U.S. channels ... I think I'll get it again in the offseason for some winter ball.
  17. Lots of unwarranted pessimism here. The NBA has a hold on hip-hop culture, and it's the game of choice on the street; yet their attendance and ratings have been in a slump for years. Youth soccer has been huge for decades, yet the MLS' attendance and television exposure is pathetic. Youth participation isn't all it's cracked up to be. Hide and seek is big among kids, but no one pays to see it. NASCAR is thriving, yet youth outlets for racing are virtually non-existant. A day at the ballpark is an awesome time, the game of baseball can make for compelling television, and, while baseball traditionally seemed made for radio, it's also perfectly suited for the kind of fandom borne of the Internet. Those factors will keep baseball popular as a spectator sport. I think the decline of black participation is unfortunate, but hip-hop won't be at the forefront of pop culture forever. The Latinos are getting ready to turn this country's zeitgeist upside down, and, fortunately for baseball, they seem to have a taste for the game that their predecessors in the "majority minority" game lack.
  18. 3-3 after 5. PR's uniforms look ridiculous.
  19. Anyone else watching? Randall Simon's playing 1B for the Dutch. PR's up 1-0.
  20. Kinsella? Is that you?
  21. I suppose we're alone in this then. This means nothing to me.
