  1. You must be a glutton for punishment to have a rosy picture of the Cubs' offseason plans. Like what do you think they are going to do to make a 90-win team be the floor? Or are you wishing on a star?
  2. That's not writing off the offseason, it's an assessment based on past performance which is the best predictor of future performance.
  3. You do this all the time. Who is writing off the offseason? We can go round and round but all reports indicate they are not shopping on the top shelf for anything either via trade or free agency (not a lot on the top shelf there anyway). This is the lament vs whining argument.
  4. pretend it's true. I wouldn't have posted it if it weren't a rumor and wasn't put on a website. If it's true... If it's not true disregard.
  5. The money going where? I'd assume that the money would be going toward pitching. Is that a bad assumption? I like Bellinger.
  6. Among the panoply of mediocrity that defines Jed Hoyer's time as the CBO of the Cubs this move doesn't even register a shrug. Goony is exactly correct. Jed will run an 80ish win team with room for a trade deadline deal if things break well for the Cubs. That's what he does and who he is.
  7. He signed Bellinger to that contract that he now wants to be rid of because Bellinger didn't opt out. That's pretty short-sighted.
  8. Isn't this a good reason not to keep Jed?
  9. Such a Jed move. Good start, let's keep it going.
  10. They already made their splash with some pitching guru.
  11. Nevermind.
  12. He should go now.
  13. I'm going to go out on a limb and say if he's healthy he will be a late inning guy and maybe the defacto closer by May.
  14. I love baseball. I love baseball on the “radio” . But I really love Pat and Ron. I know some people don’t care for Ron, but I think he’s fine and his grammar has improved.
  15. That punchable face
  16. The same people have the Cubs linked to Burns too, so...
  17. I don't like the Garcia trade, but a pretty solid and realistic effort.
  18. It could be worse- Joe Burrow is the first QB in NFL history to throw for 300 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs in two consecutive games and lose both of them.
  19. There were quotes specifically ruling in Fried? The gist of all the articles is 1) They are not going to spend big on FA pitching and look to make trades, 2) They are looking "mid-tier", and 3) Fried has QO that Jed doesn't like. That is not ruling out Fried by name and reasonable people can disagree, but it's not hard to connect the dots
  20. This could be the description for the Cubs' entire offseason.
  21. This is a winnable game.
  22. I'm pretty sure Parades was injured before the trade and was dealing with minor stuff for the rest of the season. I expect he will be better next year (career norms +/-). He's a good defender, relatively inexpensive, and if he plays to career averages, will be better than many at 3rd. Also, Adames isn't going to want to move.
