  1. so? are the Cubs the only ones allowed to suck at batting? why can't other teams. And they arn't "head high" they are high, but not that high. I'm happy! How about chin high?
  2. They're helping out Hill by swinging at the head high fastballs.
  3. somebody please kill Jimmy "WHY IS HE FAMOUS?" Fallon. Anyone playing a role in the unrivaled Cowbell skit is ok in my book. Who knew Chris Walken had that amount of comedic talent?
  4. Nice yaker by Hill. How old is he? he looks like he's 18. I couldn't be more sick of that Pepsi com.
  5. LOL JC's in the wrong career. He has ESPN anchor down.
  6. Doubtfull and they might not have scored unless he was going on contact b/c if was hit pretty hard.
  7. What do you know Felipe played for one run and that's all he got. -------------- If Hill doesn't get the ball down, they'll get a lot more though.
  8. Unfortunately, like viewing a bad wreck on the side of the road I cannot turn away. I will be watching tonight until I fall asleeep.
  9. Nah, that Pujols kid is just a flash in the pan.
  10. I like walks and power. Or powerwalks. http://www.browardhealth.org/images/power_walk.jpg I am more a fan of walking with power. Kind of a strut to first base like Mick Jagger. Wholy false choice, Batman! Nevertheless, put a couple of walks in front of a couple of singles and you might get a couple of runs. Put a couple of ground outs in front of a couple of singles and you got bumkis.
  11. My voe is Larry Derkier. Leo Mazzone Interesting. I've never really thought of him before. Has he ever expressed a desire to be a manager, do you know? If he does manage I hope GN doesn't show too many shots of him in the dugout. He makes me sea sick.
  12. Sorry, I can't back that statement because I can't imagine true fans would want their team to lose. fans with no foresight, anyway. i, for one, want this team to get better, and the only way to that is for things to get worse. i'd rather have the team finish with 60 wins, have the entire front office purged, hire someone who actually knows how to spend wisely and develop a different organizational philosophy than to middle through the season, finish with 70-80 wins, miss the playoffs, and have everyone who's part of the problem back next year. our current Iago, one mr. gary hughes, needs to be imprisoned and hit with a 500-mile restraining order. the light must be seen by the tribune and it won't be seen with a mediocre team, this team must be exceptionally bad. I honestly don't know what to say except I think it's a disgrace you guys want the team to lose? Our Cubs have had a losing mentallity forever and you want to keep that tradition for another year? Nobody wants them to lose. Sully just wrote that he hopes they go on a 30 game win streak and win the WS. Now I don't care one way or the other, but what people are saying is that if they lose they want them to loose big so big change can happen. What is so hard to understand about that?
  13. My voe is Larry Derkier.
  14. That would be my guess too.
  15. Goony, that post depresses me so much. It is true mind you, but deeply depressing.
  16. Hopefully one that wants to win
  17. The Jets problem is different than the Mets problem. Financing is always the toughest hurdle (just ask the Marlins) and with the property already ready, the Stadium is a go. The Jets were having property/development issues and financing issues. (I posted the link to the stadium so others could see it. Trying to bring back Ebbets). And to say that Minaya has no bearing on the stadium deal is silly. He as GM is in charge of the vision of the team for the foreseeable future. How easy would it be for them to get a stadium deal if they were going to finish last every year? Not too easy. As Mike Lupica is fond of saying, the fact that they are talking about 2 baseball teams in NY these days is a minor miracle by itself. Minaya is the man that made that possible. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. There is nothing finalized about the stadium. They have to go through mulitple levels and have just begun the process. However, the likelihood that they get a new stadium is pretty high. The plans for the new stadium have been around a lot longer than Omar. The Wilpons have been in the process of doing this for a number of years. Omar has nothing to do with it. In fact, this has more to do with A) the new TV network revenue and B) the Yankees. Last year the Yankees got the go ahead. If would be difficult if not impossible for the Mets not to get approval.
  18. And the funny thing is, I will only stick to my guns until someone can poke holes in the logic surrounding their decision. sarcasm? No, honesty. I mean it. I didn't base my opinion of this move on anything other than the logic at the time the decision was made. To base it on anything else, anything including any hindsight would be unfair. If someone can engage the facts and logic that I have laid out and show how it is either incomplete or faulty, I will gladly alter my opinion. They already have a number of times.
  19. I hate that this once great thread has been hijacked.
  20. Cox was actually thrown out by the 2nd base umpire. Lo Duca was thrown out by Angel. And he made a terrible call. But it was on the same play. It was a very weird play.
  21. Source? Exactly. He ad hock disqualifies the move that made the most sense because he says it ain't so. Horse crap
  22. I will never have apathy toward the Cubs. My love for them is like a burning ring of fire. Hate is not the opposite of love, it is apathy. Hate is merely love that is unrequited.
  23. Not really. The Cubs have had an execution issue for a long time. You have to factor that into your decision on whether or not you call for it. Sac bunts are dumb even when they work. Giving up an out for 90 feet doesn't help the team. But they don't always work, which just makes them even worse. Also, just because most managers would sac bunt doesn't make it a smart move. Conventional wisdom in baseball has been shown to be wrong often enough that you can't simply defend a decision by saying a lot of others would make it as well. You have to be able to prove the conventional wisdom wrong for your claim to have any relevance. In one run games the numbers show an increased likelihood of scoring with conventional small ball approaches. In every other scoring situation, the numbers show conventional small ball doesn't increase run production. Dusty had a one-run scenario late game to work with all three times, and the conventional wisdom was the correct approach if you believe in following the numbers. However, there is a legitimate claim that Dusty doesn't have these guys game ready when it comes to execution. That he deserves to criticized for as a manager. But the failure to execute doesn't disprove the value of the bunt in that situation. It just shows poor fundamentals and lack of coaching wisdom by the manager for not putting the best bunter on the bench out there to ensure successful execution. The 5th, 6th, and 7th innings are not late in the game.
