" I never argued against the theory that some Christian groups are living in the past re: women. The second article has absolutely no pro-slavery or even pro-racist connotations, despite its controversial title. No one is going to say somehting overtly racist in this day. You have to read betweeen the lines. And those are just things I found in two minutes of searching. I didn't even touch their issues on homosexuality, which are nothing short of medieval.

    From an hour drive to an 8 hour drive to see the kids. :x We should have taken the jobs at E. Tennessee State. The area around Severville is georgeous though.

    I see a correlation! Bill James made the point a few years ago with a mountain of data. Any one with an once of critical thinking could see it. The Cubs BA w/RiSP is only .10 points lower than their overall BA (.259/.269)

    I wonder if Hendry sees Zambrano, Hill and Miller as his 1,3, and 5. If so, might Padilla and Lilly be candidates for 2 and 4? do you really think Hendry would leave no room for Marshall, Marmol, Guzman, or Mateo? Where does Prior fit? It's not like any of those 4 have shown they are able to be counted on next year. I think going with Miller as the 5 would be a de facto spot for the kids to find space. As for Prior, I'm really interested in what Hendry thinks of him right now. I think there's a chance Jim questions his toughness, and somewhat blames him for making Hendry's brilliant plan look bad. And I would not be surprised if he goes into next year with 5 starters other than Prior, and forces Prior to earn his way past one of those starters. I wouldn't be surprized either. If Prior wasn't injured for most of the year I wouldn't be shocked if Prior were traded this offseason.

    I disagree. And if teams constantly threw pitchouts with the pitcher up, that would work into Pierre's team's favor as it would waste pitches with the pitcher at the plate. Who said constant pitchouts? I said constant fastballs. We've all seen times where the P is facing the oppposing P, and he inexplicably tries to get too cute: eg. throwing too many breaking balls, nibbling at corners, etc. Don't you scream "just throw strikes!" at the TV? I do, and I can't see why a P would ever get the urge to get cute with Pierre on base and a P at the plate. The C would call for fastballs, and the P wouldn't argue. Where in the world do you get the idea that Pierre, or any base stealer can only steal on breaking balls? It's wrong. Once again, a base is usually stolen on the pitcher before he ever releases the ball. The key to stealing bases is not speed (although it is a necessary condition), it is getting a good jump. Even when Maddux could throw in the mid 90s he was easy to steal off of. IIRC Nolan Ryan was one of the easiest pitchers to steal off of. Simply throwing a fastball is no guarentee that Peirre would get thrown out a higher % of the time.

    I can. he is a stubborn, stubborn man. He's been getting some heat from the media about platooning Murton or not playing him enough so he has to show everybody who's in charge.

    How do you know who the Reds will want. Maybe they think like you do and do really believe he's all that good. Maybe Hendry doesn't think all that much of him and won't trade him away for much. Either way, it is worth exploring.

    It's a win and a half by itself. So would it be correct in saying that Adam Dunn will cost the team @ 1.5 wins over the course of the season with his defense? In 2005 his VORP was a remarkable 45. This year his winshare is 21 and his RC is 98. Call me crazy but, that makes him an elite LFer.

    Why isn't Dunn an "elite" offensive LFer? He's 2nd in walks and HRs, and 7th in OBP., SLG, and OPS. I'd say top 10 in those categories makes him elite. Who cares if strikes out or doesn't hit for a high average? But that's just me. I'll take Adam Dunn, Barry Bonds, Migual Cabrera, and Manny Rameriz any day of the week to play LF for me. 15 runs over the course of a seson is not that important.

    You need to get out more. Two blocks from the Biscuts park is a brew pub that has good, not great, micro-brews. It's the only place in the entire region where one can get draft beer. They have some stupid law out-lawing draft beer. I've never been quite sure of the logic surrounding the law. http://www.montgomerybrewpub.com/ The rest of downtown is pretty run down though. All the development is in the small towns outside of Montgomery, but the area is one of the fastest growing in the state. And from what I gather from the in-laws Montgomery loves the biscuts. They have marketed very from the inception of the franchize. All the way from team colors to the name of the team where picked by the fans. It also hasn't hurt that they've had a lot of talent pass through though.

    Simply throwing a fastball is no guarentee that a guy will get cought stealing. Most bases are stolen on the pitcher's delivery to home not on the ptich they've thrown. However, you're point stands. Why pay Pierre big dollars at all? Just don't, he's not worth it.

    scouting report from stats inc: "Of course, the best part of Izturis' game is his magnificient defense, where he has almost no weaknesses. He has great range to either side and gets to more balls up the middle than perhaps any shortstop in baseball. Izturis also has plenty of arm to throw from the hole, and his footwork is magical around the second-base bag." i think their assement carries a little more weight than your opinion. Izturas has a .976 fielding percentage and a .770 ZR this year. His defense has not been magnificent. And he can't hit.

    I totally agree Vance. Pierre would be an ideal 8 hitter. Slap an infield hit, steal second, let the pitcher bunt you over to 3rd and let the run producers drive you in.

    i don't think we should give up hill to get dunn, we need every good pitcher we can. a very good starting staff is worth much more than a team with a good OBP--that said, dunn's butchery in the field makes little difference to his value. He costs you round about 15-20 runs in 150 games. BTW> I wouldn't put much stock in those numbers at all.

    I love the red head. I want the red head in a Cubs uniform next year. However, the Cubs are in somewhat of a quandry in regard to power and LF is a power position. I would love if this thread could refrain from the pro and cons of trading Murton, there are many for sure. Let's, for the sake of conversation, put Murton on the block. What would he be worth, either in a package or by himself. Could the Cubs package Murton with some young pitching for M. Cabrerra or Michael Young? What would you propose that could make the Cubs better. BTW> I could very well see Hendry trading him this off-season.

    I don't know the answer; however football has a lot less history to overcome compared to baseball. Another thing. In big time football almost every player is graded each game. Coaches have stats for everyone related to their position. In the "business" of football they've embraced quantitave analysis much more so that baseball.

    Not well enough. Couldn't have dropped the ball if he tried last year, not so much this year. bad enough to drop to the 4th round or so? :D He made a pretty nice TD catch thouhg. IMO, after this season there is no way he plays baseball. He has the size, the speed, and the hands to be a first round pick.
