  1. I don't think they wan't Pie as they have no room for him when he does eventually come up. A Prior, Eyre, Izturis, and Marshall for A-Rod. I wouldn't mind taking a bad contract like Pavano along with it to help the deal. Damon is getting old, Bernie is old, Shefield will be gone and Matsui only has a few years left. I think they'd want Pie in a big way. They might even want Patterson to ship off Cano for more pitching. They need middle relief and starters of course. I would trade Hill/Marshall, Howry and Pie for A-Rod. I don't think they'll want Prior. They probalby want Big Z but they'd have to throw in Tabathia before I would consider it, and I wouldn't give anything else.
  2. What has Ohio St done that deserve to be ranked higher than Michigan except to start the season ranked higher? They've given up an average of 8.5 points per game while scoring an average of 34 points per game. No game has even been close this year.
  3. That's what I would think. However, this guy implied that no one in the organization seemed to feel that way. From what he said, it sounded like the Cubs see it as a choice between ARod and Aramis. Of course, I have no idea how connected he really is, vs. how much of the conversation was just opinion presented as fact. It wouldn't surprize me one bit. They could have had Nomar this year in RF this year.
  4. Thanks for passing that along. I hope Aramis is getting good council from his agent. He has to know that the Cubs getting A-Rod is the longest of long shots and will mean nothing regarding his status. I really hope the Cubs don't lose Aramis.
  5. My theory is that they played just before the steriod era. Trammell and Ripken were the best of their generation at their and both deserve to be in the HOF. However, since the steriod era people people forget how productive Trammell was. It's a shame.
  6. Problem is, minor league players don't get to join the MLBPA until they come up to the majors. The MLBPA was probably fine with it because it'd mean teams would allocate more resources to signing free agents. That is a good point. However, at the same time I don't know how the agreement could pass any sort of legal challenge since (if what you say is accurate) the said players have no representation. But let's just drop this. I just made a comment about the state of labor in this country. I don't want to take this thread any further down the wrong direction. My lamenting has nothing to with the new contract.
  7. I know. It's just a pro-labor rant. There are so few of us left. I have to point out that it is labor that wanted a rookie cap. After agreeing to a cap in the NBA and NFL, the current union members wanted most of the pie. What union pays it new members as high as established members regardless of performance? It's about player greed, not management (not that they mind) or anti-trust (pay levels agreed to by both partes are part of any collective bargaining). I doubt any of what you write is true. Just because they agreed to the terms doesn't mean it is what they wanted (on both sides of the table). High contracts favor established players just as much as new players. The higher the starting bar is set the better it is for everyone. Any type of cap is bad for the union and good for management. It gives them cost certianty and places an artificial limit on slary. Regardless, I'm not talking about unions.
  8. You could put West Virgina in there too. My guess is they will be playing for the national championship after Michigan loses to OSU and ND beats USC. I'm sure all the ND fans will be crying about it too even though Michigan destroyed them. Regardless, no one touches OSU this year. USC is going to lose to Cal and maybe ND. If OSU loses it will be to Michigan. I certainly wouldnt put that in the win column for OSU yet. I agree that West Virginia is going to end up in the title game. I also think it is going to be well deserved even with all the SEC crying foul. How can anyone say WVU in the title game is well deserved? Look at their schedule. According to CBSsportline it is 100 of 119 DI Teams. They played no one this year. The Big East is terrible this year.
  9. Big Ben Rothlesberger just got KO'd . He is done for the day.
  10. I know. It's just a pro-labor rant. There are so few of us left.

  12. I don't understand how that can pass any kind of legal test. It is colusion. But we all know that money determines law. It is terribly wrong though.
  13. Yes I believe that to be the case. Hendry is an ex manager/coach. I think he sees things from that perspective. I think he believes a manager/coach should have input in personnel decisions. I think Hendry is dead wrong. I think the GM should build a team that he thinks gives the best shot at winning and then hire a coach who shares his belief/philosophy.
  14. Haden hates Notre Dame, not sure what you're talking about. yea he certianly sounds like it. Brady Quin is so dreamy. Brady Quinn can sneak turkey leg past an Etheopian. God, I hate ND.
  15. ND will have to drive almost the length of the field in 70 seconds.
  16. Maybe Haden can go hug Brady and tell him it's ok.
  17. I hate Pat Haden. Does he live in Brady Quinn's ass or what?
  18. There is way too much time lieft. At least ND has to score a TD to go ahead.
  19. Even though I was only 15 in 1984 It doesn't remind me of 1984 at all. The Cubs destroyed the Padres in the first two games and then chocked like a Pekinees on a hambone. I still hate Leon Durham. They were the superior team by a long ways. The Mets weren't that much better than the Cardinals as a result of all those injuries
  20. Yeah that's the guy! Did he get any interest? No, but Stinky Moore got a second interview :D
  21. Go UCLA!!!!!!
  22. What a wasted draft pick. That must have been a pretty weak draft though First round http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/2000/draft/news/2000/06/05/round_1/ All rounds http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/2000/draft/index.html In that draft the Cubs drafted a SS in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th round. they also drafted Dontrell Willis in the 8th round.
  23. He doesn't "track" well. Whatever the hell that is. He relies on his speed. He breaks late to the ball and makes up for his late start with his speed. He often takes bad routs to balls. Because of this when he catches the ball he is rarely in a good position to throw the ball, altough that is not too big of a problem with his arm. He's never been a "great" CFer and rarely exhibits "good" CF skills. I don't know who you've been whatching in CF but it hasn't been Pierre. You don't know what "tracking the ball" is, but you claim to know that Pierre makes bad starts on the ball? Come on. I seriously wonder if some of you guys even watch the games (on tv or in person) or just follow the numbers and rip on players b/c it's popular. There certainly doesn't seem to be much baseball playing experience here, from the ridiculous claims some people make. Who the hell are you to be making such claims? How do you know I'm not an ex-big league ballplayer that got tired of the BS lines from people who try to sound "baseball smart". How do you know I'm not some guy who tapes every Cubs game from both stations carrying the game so I can get different perspectives. Words like tracking, ceiling, instincts, feel... etc., are nonsensical scoutspeak that means absolutely nothing. The fact of the matter is that Peirre hesitates when the ball is hit. Sometimes he breaks back when he should break in. He is worse going to his glove side then his throwing side. When he does break he often loops around and catches balls low and not in a good throwing position. I've watched Slappy and he is the exact opposite of someone like Jim Edmonds. Edmonds is a hot dog, but he knows how to play CF.
  24. They are not going to blow this thing up! Hendry's Cubs career is riding on this year. Also, McDonough promised to win a WS, and I don't think Lou Piniella would've signed a contract having to wait two to three years. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, and I'm sorry if it will already be posted. Well, then Hendry better look himself in the mirror and go get Aramis signed. Hendry is the one who gave him the out clause to begin with. There is absolutely no reason the Cubs should let Aramis walk. None.
