  1. Yes, yes he was. He also was a dick about the cork incident with Sammy. Grace is the epitomy of the know nothing, ex-jock broadcaster/color guy. And to make matters worse, he isn't even funny.
  2. How do you know this? That would be fantastic. I'm really looking forward to ST. Hopefully we'll see Gooz dominate and move into the big league rotation. To emphasize, Oneri said during the convention that Guzman's curveball is back. They gushed about him and seemed to believe the stuff he had pre-injury was returning. And yet they signed Jason Marquis for the next three years.
  3. Pretty much what we can expect for 2007?
  4. If I had full faith the Cubs would do something smart with the other 20 mil, yeah, I would too. However, I'm fairly confident that Marquis will be better this year than Park, and I'm not convinced that extra money would have been better spent, so I'm not sure... They might have gone harder after Lugo. They might have gone after JD Drew. They might have gotten into trade talks with the Braves for Jones or Seattle for Ichiro, and had money to extend either one. Heck, they might even have done NOTHING and been better off with extra leeway to make moves in the offseason. Unfortunately, you're probably right. They likely wouldn't have done any of these and we'd have paid through the nose for Weaver or Meche instead. I agree. However, they have a pretty good stable of guys in AAA. I don't have much faith in Marquis as a starter, but he could be a good long man. The price is wrong though and so are the years. Let's hope Larry really did figure out Marquis. Just one more hope to place on top of all the others.
  5. I will admit freely that I am not good at translating minor league stats into major league ones and generally shy away from it when I can rather than flaunt my ignorance. I will bow to your judgment on that. The reason I mentioned sample size is that, while he has over 500 PAs they take place over about 4 years. I wonder if he is a guy who might do well for the first 125 PAs and then drops off from there (precipitously). Your point about his minor league numbers does bode well, though. I would like to see him on the roster. I think at this point Hill is an AAA roster filler, playing out the dream. He's the new Die Hard, Troy O'Leary, Michael Restovich. I don't think many teams think of OBP as an asset for a replacement player/bench guy.
  6. Why all the hate for Bronson? Is it the corn rows? It has to be. In the three years since he has become a full time starter he's posted an ERA+ of 121, 98, and 146. His WHIP in that time is a respectable 1.2,1.3, and 1.88. His K to walk ratio is better than 2:1. He pitches @ 200 innings per year. He is a pretty good pitcher and on the right side of 30 as well.
  7. I can envision them having on draft gurus to break down the players like they do for football. I think the BBTN crew will provide inane analysis of the the picks. The baseball draft is so speculative I can't imagine how they will make this interesting to the casual fan who probably can't name more than 2 or 3 prospects for their favorite team.
  8. If Bonds is still productive in 2007 someone in MLB will pay him to play baseball in 2008. Of that I have little doubt.
  9. He's a Glendon Rusch killer. It's looking to me like this was a good trade for the Reds. Willy Mo has a lot of pregression to do.

Too bad baseball isn't boxing. Z over sheets in a first round KO Barrett over Estrada, judges decsion Lee over Fielder (he has the reach), TKO in the 8th Weeks is faster than DeRosa, so I will give it to DeRosa on points Iztuis over Hardy, those Latin guys are scrappy, judges decision Murton KOs Mench in the fourth, then finshes off Geof for spelling his name funny in a one punch KO, The Ginger kid has some pipes Aramis wins by forefit JJ man handles Hart, TKO in the fifth Soriano out points Hall, speed kills Marquis is Krazy and goes bat crap all over Soupon in a 2nd round KO Hill and Bush fight to a draw and neither man gets hit once Prior goes UFC and gets a submission from Vargas with a devistating leg lock. Floyd was going to fight Bernie the Brewer but hurt his Acheles tendon trying to get through the ropes before the fight so that is the only win for the Brew Crew. Makes about as much sense as ranking baseball teams head to head.
  11. I saw Longoria in Montgomery a few times last year. The dude can hit, but he had a ball get through the 5 hole and made a few erratic throws to first. He was very impressive though.
  12. Why wait. Felix Pie and Mark Prior straight up at the end of Spring Training. Put A-Rod at SS and Cesear at 2nd.
  13. That's a false choice. No one would want that and playing Murton does not mean the Cubs will automatically lose. The Cubs need guys to get on base and Murton can do that.
  14. A somewhat healthy Floyd really won't help all that much, because that would just be replacing Murton and not all that special. A very healthy Floyd could help a lot, but again, if that just puts Murton on the bench, it doesn't help a lot. But Lou said he's got Jones penciled in as his 5th hitter already. Hopefully that means Murton is the #2 This Murton thing is already bothering me quite a bit. I hope he's not the 4th outfielder.
  15. Nice post. That's exactly what should be happening, but I doubt anyone ever accuses Bud Selig of being a rocket scientist. Clearly Selig/MLB would not enter into this contract if they weren't going to profit from it. I'm not sure all you amateur economists know all the facts here So are we to assume you are a professional economist with access to all the facts? The way I see it, for one million per team, they are cutting the audience for the EI package by 2/3 to 3/4 of the previous year. Dollarwise a win, exposure wise a huge loss. I guess I'll spend the $160 on something else this year. I was not inferring that I was an expert. But I think that a business as successful as MLB doesn't just randomly commit to one TV provider for their sports package if they don't think it will result in the greatest profitability. Perhaps they know something we don't as far as the future of DirecTV. As I said many, many pages back, there are rumors circulating that DirecTV is trying to negotiate exclusive rights to many channels' HD broadcasts. If that happens, expect DirecTV subscriptions to soar as people with HDTV's won't have any other options Or expect Direct TV to go belly up. They've committed a lot of money and baseball ratings aren't exactly football ratings. I really couldn't care less, but I am glad I grew up before the days of cable and dishes. Some of my fondest memories as a child are watching the Cubs with my dad. There is no way in hell he'd pay the money to watch 30 teams he doesn't care about for the 1 team he does.
  16. I'm so frakin' fired up about baseball I just bought 2 tickets to see one team I hate play one team I could care less about in the "Civil-Rights" game on March 31st. Cardinals vs Indians. Tickets were a bit pricy $50.00 a piece, but it is for a good cause. Hello bar-b-qued nachos and Blue Moon beer.
  17. 16-14 Colts Thanks. STuPid TeNuRE JuNk.
  18. I'm working at the office. What is the score?
  19. agreed. i think colvin will also be in this catagory. Colvin will be underrated by who? BA loves the kid.
  20. That SS name better be Alex Rodriguez. If Prior is healthy and ptiching well he's too important to trade.
  21. I really don't care who wins, but I hope the Bears do. This place will not be fun to be around for a while if they lose.
  22. More times than not over the past 3 seasons. He's been an above average pitcher since making his debut and was phenomenal last season. I totally agree Wurtz is worth keeping on the roster. However, I have a minor quibble. He's a reliever, short of Eric Gange circa 2002 any reliever should be traded in the right deal. They are a dime a dozen.
  23. 20/20 hindsight? Are you kidding me? It was Tim that suggested Daisuke. I wanted Schmidt. I would have been fine with Daisuke, but I wanted Schmidt, Drew, Lugo and whatever pieces and parts Hendry could get. There is nothing hindsight about what I wanted going into the offseason. I think Hendry did alright. However, I'm not sure if he did enough. He spent money like crazy. But, spending money like crazy isn't going to win you a World Series. Spending money on needs while focusing on the direction of the club is what builds a winner. This team has no direction. None. They spent 136m for an outfielder and they have no idea where he's going to play. They spent how much on Marquis, and there is no guarantee he'll be better than the 8th or 9th best rotation option in 2007. They haven't extended the most important player to this team, Carlos Zambrano. They really gambled with DeRosa. He's been strictly a super sub, which would have been a great thing for him in Chicago, but Hendry gave him starter money and a starting job. I hope it works, but it's quite a gamble. He doesn't have a clue what to do with Jacque Jones. Great, they went out and spent a bunch of money. But, they didn't go out and spend it with any direction. No direction. Well put. They haven't had direction for a while. My impression is that Hendry thought he could unload Jones and play Soriano in RF. Soriano is an upgrade but not a good fit for the Cubs. Up until last season he was an infielder now he's moving again. Maybe he's a good enough athelete to pull it off. But that is a gamble.
